Guys
i own quite a few chucks, and from time to time they need a quick maintenance.
Some chuck switches will act up from time to time and misfire.
Or some switches have to be pressed extra hard.

Here is a good remedy i have found, and in part i owe this to Jeff who told me to spray contact cleaner on the switch and work the damned thing hard.

What i do is this :
1. remove batts
2. cover the batt hole partially with a hand, and spray lots of contact cleaner inside. Make sure hole is covered or the contact cleaner will squirt out.
You will get some on your hands...it evaporates...no big deal.

3. Once the batt compartment is half full of liquid, let the liquid seep out of the chuck.

4. Now blow the chuck (attach your lips to the batt hole and blow hard).

All residual alcohol will be forced out, and leave an additional 30 seconds to evaporate.

Like new!!! :2cool:

Any auto parts store or maybe Walmart will have this.

I use my chucks at 8.3 volts and my liquid is partly made with espresso VG.
I have noticed that every 3~4 weeks my chucks need a good cleaning with the electronic cleaner.
This method really proves to be sucessful.
At first i was a little reluctant to immerse my chuck in cleaner, but since i have 7 of them, i took the risk.
Now they have all gone for a swim in electronic cleaner...they love it!!

Catherine,
i do not know if you are still having problems..
Let me explain this in a better way.

You have contact cleaner correct? It is a an aerosol bottle that sprays contact cleaner.
Open the battery compartment, and remove batteries.
Point the head of the chuck (atomizer side) downwards.
Now spray contact cleaner for 10 seconds down into the battery compartment.
The battery compartment will now have about 1" of liquid in it.
You will see bubbling as the liquid seeps into the switch department, past the rubber gasket.
Now, place your lips around the chuck and blow hard...push the liquid out through the switch and head of the chuck.
Keep blowing and repeat several times until no liquid comes out.
Dry any remaining liquid with a towel.
Place batteries in again....and voila! comme neuf!! Like new!

I'm the proud owner of 3 chucks...I've sent one back because I dropped it right on the switch..ugh...and then again because the switch just stopped working. I've always gotten it back as good as new, no problems. Excellent customer service. Now..my question: Would this be good to do as a maintenance thing? Like every month or so...to keep it running smooth? My chucks get a LOT of use, there are two of us using them and any tips to keep them in good order is welcomed.

Tried this on my two week out chuck after having problems with the switch. After cleaning I put it on a multimeter to test it and unless I press real hard I don't get 3.8v and even then it might jump up and down. The wierd thing is when the switch is not pressed i'm getting around .4v to .5v. When cleaning the fluid only dripped out of the head not the switch. I used "Precision Electronics Cleaner" from radioshack. It contains isohexane, difluoroethane, and ethanol. I didn't take any multimeter reading prior to cleaning I wish I had.

edit...

Tried cleaning it again this time filling with cleaner then suspending it on it's side over a cup with the switch pointing down and the battery cap on. Just left it there a few minutes and it's testing out fine now.
