SO, I was all excited to try my hand at my first DIY liquid. I used FA's Cowboy at 5% in a 80/20 PG/VG base with 18mg Nic. OMG- i felt like I was vaping someone's perfume.:?:

Having spent years formulating powder drink mixes as my job, I know my way around formulating (mixing, weighing) and all the trials that must be done before you get the right taste. But this is soooooo horrible, I have no idea what I should try next!:(

Perhaps the additive Vape Wizard by FA would help. Just a suggestion since I've never tried it. Someone else who has might be able to give you an idea of what it does to tobacco flavors. It is made by FA so I'm assuming it is to be used to improve the taste and mouth feel of their tobacco flavors. You might do a search on it here and see what you can find out.

Try airing the mixture out. Take the dropper tip out of the bottle and leave it uncapped for a day or two.

Also, I've found that the higher the percentage of FA tobacco flavoring, the longer the steep time will be, especially if it's a larger batch. It took 4 weeks for my Shade and Virginia to mellow; both were at 7% and 30mL batch size.

Vape Wizard *will* change the taste, and it doesn't take much to do it. Try one drop of it in about 3mL of juice as a test.

OK- an update-
I've let the Cowboy juice sit for about 30 hours, still a very bad taste, and smell. Yesterday I had also made about 30ml of an unflavored PG/VG base with 18mg NIC I can pull off small amounts of, to taste various flavor(s) in.
The base smells horrible- not sure if it's like a horrible perfume or like a very strong chemical smell (but it's just like the cowboy flavored batch I made). I went back and checked the PG and the VG- no real odor to either. But the 100mg NIC juice base I bought: my god! what an odor! Really disgusting, and it is what I smell in the base I made and the cowboy sample. Please tell me that this is not the way Nic base smells!!! I do not think it could ever be covered up.

The part of Canada that doesn't get enuf Snow :(
I've had the same issue with a few flavors. Some have gassed off enuf that they are good some I can't stand to even open the bottle. Not sure why all have been recommended name brands. Ivefound some that I like with lots of trial and error I guess that's what its all about. Good luck finding your flavor.

My nic-base has no odor.

If it has sit awhile it will get an odor like copper. Not exactly copper, but close.

It has been a long time since I've had nic sit that long though as I have a certain place I put my nic now so it doesn't get misplaced.

While it had that odor, mixed it had minimal effect on the taste. (A slight effect, but not so much as to make the juice bad.)

I've enjoyed a number of FA's flavors and consider them one of the top flavor houses. However, I haven't tried Cowboy. My guess has been that for an Italian company to formulate Cowboy, they're thinking of Clint Eastwood, circa his spaghetti western period and I don't think I'd want to vape a trail weary and unwashed Mr. Eastwood anymore than I'd want to vape Wet Sheepdog.

I did contact the vendor, and although there is no clear reason for the strong odor, they did 'make things right' on the unusable product.
One thing I can say since getting involved with ecigs, ECF and the various vendors: I have never come across so many people who are helpful, understanding and a pleasure to interact with.
