Decided to take an old Vmod apart today. Just to see if I could use the bottom feeding bit in another mod. Absolutely no chance, so that was an hour of my life I'll never get back again

------------------------------

Then I thought, I'll push Terry's idea about higher resistance coils to the maximum. Built a 3.7 ohm coil for a Kayfun. About 11 or 12 wraps using 30g kanthal around a 3mm coiler. Tried it on the iStick and your right mate, tis lovely. Great flavour and plumes of vapour. Only downsides are, I think I'll be going through juice a bit quicker and the voltage is pretty high too when vaping at 9 watts

I dont think you'd use that much more juice, the heat flux is quite low on those numbers, but pretty squeaky on the volts for a stick
I like to build about 1.8 - 2 for a heat flux about 200, easy on the battery and the juice but good for flavour and vape

Anyone using the Istick 50? Have you noticed anything odd? Or is mine just a touch faulty.

It sat nice and quiet, unused for a couple of hours then, without being touched it fired itself. Ran till the 10 second time out, then all faulty buttons. Voltage up ok, voltage down very intermittent, fire button not working at all.
Plugged into the charger now it's working ok again. Is mine haunted or has this happened to others?

Me too,i've been playing bonfires all day.
Playing bonfires? ....you an arsonist or a fireman?
I read that link about 4 times Trish and none of it sank in.
So what you're telling me is that website with POET juices was a bum steer  Sorry.
I had to read it a couple of times and then only got the gist of it - No worries ...I didn't notice anything amiss either! :) all helps keep us on our toes anyway - I know the Swiss like to be squeaky clean, but these things all plant notions in the heads of lawmakers elsewhere.

I've heard varying reports on putting ready made in the fridge. From what I can gather, it just needs to be kept in a cool dark spot. I think the fridge part is more for the benefit of our American cousins in the hotter states. But if your garage does get hot in summer probably best to stick it in the fridge. No help I know
Not at all - all opinions count! Nebraska does get plenty of cold, snowy weather in winter though. If keeping it at around 50f is best (and we don't get that low in the garage in summer) and it gives an extra 2-3 months perhaps, it's worth it in the long run I suppose.

Could be a wise move Trisha :)
If I do have to stop using them eventually, I want it to be on my terms, not theirs, so anything usable is staying put for now.
I'm definitely going to buy more nicotine.

I've already told the Wife that I might be claiming part of the freezer. She gave me one of those looks that say "Try it Pal and you'll be sleeping in the shed indefinitely"
I anticipated that very look - and we have no shed either!, so decided on a little table top model! Mine!!! :D

I've no plans on visiting Switzerland, wonder if you'd get arrested for vaping 18mg juice over there
Well, aren't their police armed?, and all those doing their form of national service are trained to use a rifle and then get to keep it? No, don't risk that one!
Not likely I'll be going there either ...they have snow! ...seriously, it's not a place that appeals to me. Didn't care for Austria either - apart from Vienna and Salzburg.

At least a month or two
Ah right - you cut down have you ?

 Yeah, 3.7 is a tad high Ian  Try 9 wraps of 30 ga round a 2.5 mm. Should come out around 2.2 ohms, and i think it gives a perfect vape anywhere between 10 - 15 watts.:toast:

If i remember correctly Vinnie, the builds i did are at 208 heat flux, and showing a perfect shade of Green :toast:

Touch wood ...never had a hint of a problem with it Dave, and I use it a lot.
Put it somewhere safe overnight. I think I'd be tempted to return it.

there are a few threads re that...
in Variable Voltage APV and one in General :

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-vaping-discussion/664396-warning.html

long thread in VV APV, I would start at the end and work back :
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ion/656162-eleaf-istick-50w-owners-group.html

So Happy i didn`t get one of them now, but i fear for the others who have bought them ! They sound just like an accident waiting to happen, and wouldn`t all the anti vapers - especially governments who wish to impose bans, be in their element

I've got it in a Kayfun with drilled out airhole and enlarged juice channels though. Normally using this atty I get small air bubbles between each hit. Now I'm getting a Jacuzzi effect after each hit  The amount of vapour being produced is superb though. It is just an experiment though, especially with it pushing 5+ volts

Not at all - all opinions count! Nebraska does get plenty of cold, snowy weather in winter though. If keeping it at around 50f is best (and we don't get that low in the garage in summer) and it gives an extra 2-3 months perhaps, it's worth it in the long run I suppose.

I can't see it doing any harm at all. Some suppliers do suggest keeping juice in the fridge, so why not.

If I do have to stop using them eventually, I want it to be on my terms, not theirs, so anything usable is staying put for now.

You can't beat the peace of mind factor too.

I don't think I'll be repeating the experiment mate  I'll go for a mid range one instead.

It's surprising how cool the vape is on this one Terry. It's giving flavour like a squonker, vapour like a dripper, but it's as cool as TC build. Just noticed, I've gone through 3/4 tank already and I've not been vaping on it exclusively. Think I'll be rebuilding it tomorrow

Always good to experiment Mate, especially when you get a real good result :) Don`t think i will bother with the thicker wire now as i much prefer the instant firing with thinner. I also used to have to take a really long drag to get a decent lung full - Not any more

It can keep your mini cloupor company Trish - In your charger bag !
The Cloupor has been perfect so far ...never gets warm, and I've been using it more since I got that Peakomizer 2 ...not too bad - or I've got used to it!
My iStick 50 has never faltered either, but I do keep an open mind with them all and watch for any problems or heating.
My second iStick 50 will be here soon - replacement from FT for the faulty Earl 20. Hopefully, that will be OK too.

I can't see it doing any harm at all. Some suppliers do suggest keeping juice in the fridge, so why not.

I think it has to be better than in here - the warmest room in the house as there's only one outside wall and the overhead lights, computer, monitor etc. & TV generate more warmth too. I can put a little fridge and freezer on top of two filing cabinets in a spare room upstairs.

I'll definitely not be going then. Especially if there's snow. Don't see the point of going anywhere on holiday and being cold. I can stay at home and experience that
Wasn't my favourite place - didn't care for the food either, apart from the imperial rolls baked early every morning in the bakeries! Hotel served them in huge platefuls with fresh butter, preserves, and large pots of coffee! :)

I'll keep a close eye on mine for awhile and see what's happening.
If it's a known problem, may be as well to send it back? Perhaps get a couple of 30's instead - they seem pretty much OK.

Aint they just! ....enablers! :D

Yes, I can - is it a good idea to refrigerate the ready to use stuff then? I can keep it pretty cool/cold in winter in the garage cupboards, but in summer it wouldn't be cool enough, and I must have more than a years supply kicking around already. I certainly have enough to fill one of those small ones.

I do want to freeze some nicotine, and also some of the VG that Chefs sell. Considering I'm aiming for all 3mg (or less if I can do it) I shouldn't need more than 5-6 100ml bottles of 72mg nicotine to last a good few years?)

From what I've read, there is no problem in keeping ready made in a fridge, but shouldn't be frozen - There should be no need to buy plain VG to freeze as that will always be available anyway - used for other things apart from vaping.

Believe it or not I've had that problem with my Vaporshark DNA30 - the KF Mini decided to leak and screwed it up the same way - started auto-firing, then the DNA board started playing up - tried using an Isopropyl spray to clean it out - left it to dry, but no joy, left it to let the battery run out - hoping that would reset the board - still no joy - so I now have a Vaporshark DNA30 paperweight :(

I don't know what Chefs plans are if things go pear shaped at some point ...I suppose most suppliers must have some sort of plan in mind. I'd like to get some of the VG that they have as it's a really good one ...I've found I can tell the difference between some brands (even if I don't know exactly which brand the others are), so I could always freeze some - I won't need to cram it full of nicotine I suppose.

We do need to keep an eye on these things!
Think perhaps they were rushing too many of them out into the market place to try and keep ahead of everyone?

I'll still be building with the thicker wire, cos I've got loads left still  I might just throw out the ribbon wire though. I've been doing some twisted build with it, but to be honest, it's a pain for snapping. The weird thing is, I can take a really long draw with this 3.7 ohm build (it's now settled at 3.5 ohms with a bit of use), it's a really cool vape - as cool as a TC build.

My iStick 50 has never faltered either, but I do keep an open mind with them all and watch for any problems or heating.

Mine has been fine too Trisha. The wattage up button needs to be pressed a little harder than the down button. But everything else is fine.

I think it has to be better than in here - the warmest room in the house as there's only one outside wall and the overhead lights, computer, monitor etc. & TV generate more warmth too. I can put a little fridge and freezer on top of two filing cabinets in a spare room upstairs.

Our kitchen is the same, we have halogen spot lights in there, you can notice the difference as soon as you walk in.

Wasn't my favourite place - didn't care for the food either, apart from the imperial rolls baked early every morning in the bakeries! Hotel served them in huge platefuls with fresh butter, preserves, and large pots of coffee! :)

Mmm, I love a nice fresh continental breakfast on holiday :)

VG will be in places like Boots. Should be next to the cough medicines, as it's used for sore throats. Safe for children under 1 and breast feeding women too - you can't get much safer than that :)
