Lemmy dead...David Bowie dead...not a brilliant start to 2016. :(

I must admit i shed a tear for David, seen him twice in concert in my younger days.

First record i ever bought saved my pocket money and got Starman...Sad day.

Yes, sad to see yet another great musician and performer gone!
I may not have liked all his work, but did like quite a lot of it. Particularly like Life on Mars, Starman, and Space Oddity ...and many more too.

When I wick my other rba's I will make sure I do it the proper way. As there is nothing wrong with the one I done yesterday I thought it would be pointless re-doing it again.
I wasted a lot of cotton as I couldn't get the thickness right. On the videos it looks quite big, obviously they record it close up.

Now I roughly know how much to cut off I won't waste as much.

For RTAs I usually use the "Scottish Roll" technique of wicking but don't find I need as much to start with as on the videos. To see what I mean try finding some youtube videos on how to do it.

For RDAs I don't bother, just peel the top and bottom off and roll it roughly in my fingers.

I use MUJI which I bought direct from them for about £5 for loads and loads.

(cost me $5.17)

Used my reward points at GB, given for all the orders i hadn't received(remember the subtank, kbox etc fiascos).
Also surprised GB China use Yodel in the UK,knew the EU warehouse did but didn't expect it for further afield.

and I'm giving up on this .... nickel wire I have - no problem making single coils, but as soon as I try to make duals all I keep getting is resistance too low problems, even when I add in more wraps than what Steam Engine tells me I need - wondering if it's this wire I have which is from VAM.

12 wrap minimum each coil for 28 gauge at 2.5mm to make a .05 dual setup. Which is typically the minimum for a keen mod. If your kid has a higher minimum than that you probably don't want to use nickel. 26 gauge would take somewhere between 15-18 wraps at s bare minimum. A huge coil. Well long at least.

how long did that squonker take to ship? I haven't received a notification of the purchase yet even I don't think. Paid via PayPal - should I be concerned or are they pretty quiet and then it just arrived ?

Edit

logged into steamCrave and apparently it shipped. That's a nice surprise

I didn't realize it was a Chinese mod. For some reason (maybe he other thread) I thought it was made in the USA and shipping from here. 17track website not so good at relaying he progress but it's showing up at least. No idea how long it will take but my guess is no less than 10 days

That's good, did you go for the free shipping, did it not give you a tracking number on the site, you should have received email confirming purchase and then email re Shipping, my second one ordered 08/01 shipped today but mine is coming via DHL. Check your account for your email address, they FKD mine up somehow, using an old one, which luckily I still have access to until later this year, don't know how that got into their system, and I can't change it, they have advised me to set up a new account with the correct email.

I have he correct email in there. Had I know it was coming from china I probably would have chosen a different option. The I believe the thought process was

"Ok. I can try this on discount and just sold an item For almost the same Price but I can't make it $10-15 more for shipping or it loses value ":)

Oh well. I did see the tracking number. It's via Singapore post right now. Starts with LS. Iirc that means I'm in for a three week wait a la fasttech battery shipping. Hope not but honestly I couldn't afford to spend for faster shipping so it's probably good I mistakenly thought it was coming from either EU or USA. 15%+ of item cost for me to get it faster doesn't make sense when the one thing I have in endless supply is time.

No emails at all From Them- better check the junk
Folder. Looks like it shipped three days ago - or that may be the order. The tracking says they received notification of it but it's not a guarantee they physically have it. So pre shipment maybe.

Oh well by the time It arrives I may have forgotten about it and receive a present from the shipping gods.

Oh I wanted to mention in case others don't know

Sunshine cloths. I bought this five lack from
Amazon

5 Sunshine Polishing Cloths for Sterling Silver, Gold, Brass and Copper Jewelry Polishing Cloth Amazon.com: 5 Sunshine Polishing Cloths for Sterling Silver, Gold, Brass and Copper Jewelry Polishing Cloth

It made this third hand mod I traded for to try

This is even a really bad photo and you can see its done a wonderful job. Took five or so minutes and it's touted as non abrasive. I'll Probably be running this mod brought the ultrasonic again and then using these

Metal Polishing Cloths - Cape Cod, 4" x 6" - 12 ct Amazon.com: Metal Polishing Cloths - Cape Cod, 4" x 6" - 12 ct: Industrial & Scientific

To get it back to nearly new. But I'm concerned they may be too abrasive. You may wish to wear gloves but the black comes off the hands easily. I finished with a damp Microfiber then a dry one.

The sunshine cloths took a brass Fire button with a lot of patina and with two little rubs it was back to new.

Really good product for a cleaning every few months of the stainless and brass parts to our gear keeping them like new, without altering the finish. I'm not sure I'd use it on the go mods satin finish.

Sorry for the long post again but I didn't know these sunshine cloths existed and I bought others here may benefit from seeing them at $2.50 a cloth and considering general upkeep would be 1-1.5 cloths for a few devices every few months I'll be keeping them in stock

Bloody Rip off Britain again - $2.50 = £2.50 instead of £1.75 on Amazon UK, luckily we can find them cheaper elsewhere for £1.99 each (pack of 10) pack of 5 on Amazon UK was almost 3 times as much as on the US site.
On the other site that I found over here it does state that they are Micro abrasive so not sure what Micron the abrasive is, 3M also do Micron abrasive paper cloths starting at 1 micron for £1.99 each, for those interested they can be found here: Sanding, Polishing & Tumbling - Hand Polishing - Polishing Cloths & Compounds - Metal Clay Ltd

Always rip off Britain. That said I just had to lay import tax because and seller in the eu declared the item value including VAT as you know we don't pay. So they don't exclude VAT then they use half of that to compensate us with "free shipping" but then they or it down 20% more dear and I have to lay import tax and brokerage fee

Item was under $200 if you exclude vat and wouldn't have qualified for import tax. Instead it wound up being $45 more.

As for the micro abrasive. The guys in the GP bread are pretty strict about what they'll use on their mods. What may be micro abrasive for some maybe doesn't apply to SS. While I'm sure there's some abrasive to all polishing cloths they'd recommended this one as the least. That said I'd use it on things like the kabuki. Or subtank or triton without a second thought to renew them. I'd give pause before firing off on a titanium limited Mark bugs gem with any of these types of things but given many of us here do mass produced stainless steel atomizers and mods it seeks to me these are probably the best way to go for now. I'll post my results from the cape cod which are a fair bit more abrasive But should be fine for the same sort of application

I need to look into the 3m stuff to see how it compares. I bought these on a recommendation as I said that they work without ruining most finishes. A 1 micron abrasive may still be too much to use on something like the gem. I can't figure what should be used on certain satin finishes other than a microfiber. Like the piccoloid or heron v2 brushed finishes.

But GP sell a brush and polish kit. They're attachments do You can use a Dremel to spin mods and atomizers to refinish. Handy duo of tools for €10 for when you want to refinish your things or really renew the brushed or polished finish. Keep it in Mind for the hard cases

GP Polisher & Brusher adapter (PnB)

I have a pretty worked over sub tank and another clone I'm going to use as a test pigs.

Expensive but if means never having to buy another coil then probably worth it:

Of course main questions - is it safe to use, does it work in TC mods

That is cool and if they make a version without an enormous chimney and with a better sort of collection chamber I'll be first in line. As it is now my guess would be it is at best going to hit like s dripper. It won't however be a flavor monster just based on design - just like most early drippers werent( contrary to what people Dripping think a direct inhale to the lung is not gong to concentrate flavor like flavor based mouth to lung tanks with a collection area and cooking process)

Additionally if you have cotton wrapped around a silicon board - presumably the board heats based on the received power - which makes me wonder how hot he chip gets. And what is emitted form that chip

It's a very interesting idea and it's great to see new innovation. A truly coil less atomizer would be incredible, even at the $150 price point most people would break even compared to something like the triton 2 within a year. It's very clear the bigger companies are making their money on coils not atomizers. This should petrify them! The technological video was exactly what I needed to to see. Certainly if banning regulations are coming down I'll be getting one of these regardless

Thanks!

Ps where are these sold? Never seen them before
