Councils can be "funny" like that. Ours simply refused to take our garden waste - our lane is "too narrow". Our recycling had to go in a tiny box. We wrangled with them for over a year, and now we are "allowed" to take them to a different road for collection every other week . "Them" are recycling and garden waste bins which the Council provided. We had to pay £30 delivery charge for each bin. I'd say £60 was quite dear for "delivery".
General refuse is collected from outside the house, but you don't get a bin for that. They give you a roll of bin bags - "health and safety" means they will only collect bin bags. Every other week.
Their "too narrow" mantra also means that the lane doesn't get gritted or cleared of snow in the winter. The residents have to do it.
It's amazing all the wonderful benefits you get for paying band F council tax!
There's such a lot wrong with that.
When we moved here, there was open countryside and farms just 50 yards away, with a couple of miles of original country lanes running through ...but the house building didn't stop. The land owners kept buying, waiting until prices rose, selling to developers, and the council passing plans for houses. The roads, shops, schools, all came later - traffic tailbacks past our road every morning and afternoon for some years, because there was only one road into town, and to get to schools.
The few houses and remaining farmhouse down those lanes still did get their refuse collections, but as far as I know, they're totally traffic free now.
So stupid - and selfish - for local councils to keep on building when the infrastructure hasn't even hit the planners desk.
They installed the new high efficiency street lights last year - very cold light, but effective. They said it would save money ...yes, especially when we're paying for them!
Why should you have to take your refuse anywhere - especially recycling, which the council will be paid for. Paying for the bins is something else that is supposed to be included in the council taxes under the refuse collection heading.
One of our sons had his wheelie bin split by the side arms on the collection vehicle, yet they denied that it was them, and told him he'd need to pay £25 for a new one. He wound some gaffer tape around it!
We're in band F too, and it's such a chunk to pay each month - the largest outlay we have by a considerable way. Apart from the amount that goes for the police and fire services, it makes for very expensive refuse collections as far as we're concerned!
Of course they're still building houses ...more council tax to collect! I think I'm becoming a cynic!
