You just have to find the right caramel, after all caramel is just burnt sugar.

I would guess that it may be molasses without tasting it.
Yep, finding the right caramels and vanillas is a big part of a good ry4 type mix imo. I like both (original) TFA and FA Caramel but they're both coil gunkers. Not too bad used lightly in a ry4 type mix though. For vanilla, I really like a made up mix of TFA Vanilla Swirl, Vanilla Bean, and Vanillin.

I kicked this one out last night for the wife. Hehe.....20% flavoring; it's been a long time since I tasted a mix with that high of a percentage of flavoring in the mix. She's a flavor hound; me, not so much. Still, after a 24 hr steep, the initial taste test on a dripper says that in about 3 or 4 weeks, she'll have a nice RY4 mix. The HS Highway has done a fantastic job of replacing the TFA RY4 Double! :)

I'm loving the Indian tobacco. Glad BCV finally got it back in stock and all you folks recommended it.

Perique Black is amazing solo IMO. The taste/smell is very familiar but I can't quite place it. Mixed it up at 5% and have been vaping it all day for the last two days.

Black Label (Djarum) is good but not quite what I was hoping for on its own. It smells like sausage in the bottle but thankfully doesn't taste like that when vaped. Gonna have to play around with this one a bit.

I vaped Sour Apple Perique from NET.com but that's it. I enjoyed it but the apple was pretty dominant so I didn't get a good representation of perique.

This has a... kind of sour-ish note which is I'm having trouble figuring out. I'm terrible at describing flavors, really, so sorry for the vagueness.

Are you guys referring to Perique by Flavor Art? That one has no resemblance to the NET variety. A closer match is 7Leaves Ultimate - a fruity taste somewhat similar to the NET variety. I use just 2% , and get plenty of flavor. It's quite good.

P.S. I can not imagine using Perique Black at 5%. Anything beyond 1% gives me a pungent taste.

I thought, perhaps, you had a favorite recipe that was your go to RY4 mix?

I'm working on a new one for my wife; it'll be too sweet for me, I'm sure, but it's her tastes buds I'm trying to please.

RY's are not my usual vape. I'm more of a nutty NO.5, 555, highway vaper but I use Hangsen ry1 as my base tobacco and use caramel, vanilla, AP and deluce de leche very lightly as I don't like my RY4's overly sweet. I have a 60ml bottle of RY4 I made up a year ago that still has 30mls left so as you can see It's not a vape I use often. I now mostly vape NETS as my tobacco base with other flavorings added to fit my particular mood. Lately I've been vaping a sweeter virginia Net and add a very light cinnamon kick to it.

Why not use HS RY4? I'm going out on a limb and guessing you don't have any?

I can't imagine using highway for a sweet tobacco base, too grassy.

Well, I do have the HS RY4, but the wife really loves the HS Highway over the HS RY4 because of the slightly sweet and nutty notes.

The real goal was to make her a "Tribeca" style vape, which by all accounts is an RY4 based mix with a sweet, caramel, vanilla and nutty background. Typically, I used TFA RY4 Double to make Tribeca, but the last batch of "rebottled" TFA RY4 I received was crap.

To tell the truth, I never could actually tell what type of tobacco was used in the TFA RY4.....the tobacco flavor was never something that jumped out at me or was super discernible. But with the HS tobaccos, you can actually taste the tobacco and identify what your tasting. Good stuff! :)

The percents would be a little high for me but that does look delish! :vapor:

Depending on your wife's taste buds, Hangsen Ry1 might be a better choice for her. It's a light straight ahead with nothing added type flavor. You'll have slightly lighter and smoother grass/hay notes than the Highway but still deeper and better than the Ry4D. Use a drop or two of AP, Peanut Butter, Toasted Almond or whatever you like for the nuttyness and Bob's your uncle.
For brown sugar, I really like TFA's Brown Sugar Extra.

Oh yes, the percentages are way too high for me as well! And super sweet vapes are not really my thing. I'll mix a batch with the HS RY1 and RY4 as well, steep them all at the same time and see which one she likes the best. I've got the tobaccos and the other flavors, might as well use them!

Maybe reworking the recipe with a bit of brown sugar in the mix would be a wise thing.

Great. Now you can see if you agree with me that Hangsen uses their Ry1 as the base for their Ry4. Also, steep time should be shorter for the Hangsen. Just enough for the vanilla and caramel to come together. The Ry4D had to wait until it changed color, usually about 4 weeks.

Yes, FA Perique Black. Whatever it is I like it.

I can't imagine using any flavor solo at 1%.

Surprise !! Taste buds are different .... Here is a chart of recommended starting percentages. For FA, tobaccos are way at the bottom. The grey column is manufacturer's recommendations. Yellow is average of different users.
It covers most manufacturers except HS. Choose manufacturer from the bottom tab:

Sorry, false alarm. Stilling showing OOS.

BCV now has DE Tobacco essence in stock. Didn't make my request for 50ml bottles in time; had to resist buying up all the 10ml's ;) ).

Vaping some fresh mix (yesterday) now and maybe getting some chocolate notes? Sure is delicious. Eager to hear other opinions. Certainly among my favorites of Hangsen tobaccos. Could be described as a rich, full-flavored tobacco vape to enjoy after a fine meal (or anytime...). Enjoy!

My previous comment wasn't meant as an attack or criticism of you, personally. Maybe I'm reading your post wrong but it seems kind of defensive. I like strong juices and I can't imagine using any flavor solo at 1%. That's all. I've seen that chart before and realize that most manufacturers recommend testing their juices at 1% and then adjusting.
