Great. Now you can see if you agree with me that Hangsen uses their Ry1 as the base for their Ry4. Also, steep time should be shorter for the Hangsen. Just enough for the vanilla and caramel to come together. The Ry4D had to wait until it changed color, usually about 4 weeks.

The ry4 I had was a different tobacco base than I'm used to but never tried the ry1, so could be it.. . I'm not even sure if what I got was really ry4 it was HS pre-made from caterpillar and it was clear, odd I thought

Of all the RY's from hangsen the ry3 is by far the strongest imo. And definitely towards the top of the hangsen range for flavor strength. I consider it hangsens signature tobacco taste : amplified, probably some sweetness in there too. That was mixed at 3.3% and strong.

My previous comment wasn't meant as an attack or criticism of you, personally. Maybe I'm reading your post wrong but it seems kind of defensive. I like strong juices and I can't imagine using any flavor solo at 1%. That's all. I've seen that chart before and realize that most manufacturers recommend testing their juices at 1% and then adjusting.

No perception of attack or criticism on this side. We were both stating facts. Everyone knows for example that Danny likes strong flavors. I remember once vaping a sample of his ADV and choking on the first puff. I had to ask if they were concentrates :)

Good, I didn't want to come across like I was taking a shot at you or anything.

Good to know Jeremy. Ry3 now on my list to try, along with DE tobacco, if BC ever gets some in.

I'm loving the Indian Tobacco. Glad BCV finally got it back in stock and all you folks recommended it.

Perique Black is amazing solo IMO. The taste/smell is very familiar but I can't quite place it. Mixed it up at 5% and have been vaping it all day for the last two days.

Black Label (Djarum) is good but not quite what I was hoping for on its own. It smells like sausage in the bottle but thankfully doesn't taste like that when vaped. Gonna have to play around with this one a bit.

HS Indian is my main ADV and has been for a couple of years now. Since I recently started using rayon the flavour got even better - fuller and richer - though I couldn't have imagined that it would as I liked it well enough before I used rayon! My second favourite is HS Magic Mix.

I have some Perique Black that I haven't used for a long time, I remember quite liking it so I think I'll mix some up today. I'd be interested to hear what you do with the Djarum, I have some mixed from a while ago and I'm finding it hard to like it much as a solo flavour, though I can tell it has some potential.

Welcome to the club! Glad the rayon is treating you well.
:toast:

Now you see why I don't use HS over 3.3% typically and get plenty of flavor.

YES! I owe you a thank you JeremyR! When I first saw your avatar ages ago, I wondered what it was all about, then eventually I tried the rayon a couple of weeks ago and... brilliant stuff. I've used silica (4 years ago when I first started vaping and it was pretty much what everyone used then), had a long time using organic cotton wool balls, then the Japanese organic cotton pads, then I moved on to this stuff called Cotton Bacon which was better than anything I'd used previously, but it still doesn't wick quite as well as the rayon. Rayon is harder to source here in the UK and more expensive, but still a little does go a long way so it's incredibly worth it and that's what I'm sticking with now.

When I was first using Hangsen tobaccos I was using 8% flavour (shocking I know), now I'm down to 4% and about to drop to 3% (or maybe 3.3% heheh). When I use Inawera tobaccos though, I only add a few drops of flavouring, like 2-4 drops from the tiny INW dropper. I find INW flavouring so strong that I gag if I use any more than that.
Especially with rayon in my drippers :toast:

I was thinking today that not just the brand of nicotine, which is discussed sometimes, but the strength must affect the flavour quite a bit too as nicotine does have a (peppery?) taste - so we discuss flavours on the forum, but for someone using 8mg of nic on rayon the flavour will be a little different from someone else using say 18mg of nic with another material, perhaps not so much that it makes that much difference though - what do you think?

I have tried several brands of nicotine and couldn't see any difference in taste between them except for one - an extra clean nicotine from vaper's tek. I understand they have since changed sources; not sure if the new source is equally clean tasting.

The nic comes through stronger on rayon, and the taste would as well. Users typically reduce their previous cotton nic levels by 20-30%. Because rayon intensifies everything, including the nic buzz.

I used to be 12mg on cotton all day no buzz. had to drop to 8mg with rayon, at 12mg rayon I would od on nic.. ... 18mg on Rayon would be like 24 or more on cotton in my experience.

You could always use capsicum instead of nic.
Does it impart a similar flavor? I'm interested. Not sure where to source it though. I've heard of it, being a fan of spicy food, but never heard of it in vaping.

Some say it does give flavor some say it doesn't, it does simulate throat hit from nic.

I've been sent the 5 prototype tobaccos to test batch and review.

.....make that six prototypes. Just received another prototype from FLV.

It seems like this one is in the tobacco absolute category; super viscous liquid. Upon a quick smell and finger taste test, the concentrate has a pleasant, but sharp and bitter, dark molasses tobacco flavor. I'm guessing this might be one of those tobacco concentrates which needs to be diluted down into a mixing friendly tincture.

So far, of the prototypes I've tasted, it seems as if Flavorah is on the move to provide some very tasty concentrates which will have a mixing % of under 5%; happy news! :)

I wouldn't do nic at all if the flavor didn't change. It's just not the same at 0mg. I don't need the chemical aspect of it, but the flavor just lacks without any.

For what your looking for I think you best option is to do as I do.. Cause I feel the same. Don't need all the nic but need the th and flavor. I buy the strongest tasting highest th nic, so I can taste it at lower percentages. Many in the tasteless nic crowd wouldn't touch it. But with tasteless low th nic I need way higher nic to fill my needs... My current go to is nic select, I bought it from ecx last time.

Also steeping nic increases the flavor and th. Give it about 6 months on the shelf if it's too fresh from the vendor.. Sometimes the bulk vat is already 4-6 months old and this produces a stronger tasting, higher th nic; at same MG compared to a fresh unoxidized nic.

I'll try that ecx stuff next time, thanks for the tip. Sounds like a really good idea. Minimize the amount, maximize the flavor.

On a separate note, Dark for Pipe is brilliant stuff. Black is good too but the Dark has started to challenge my Highway as my favorite flavor. Will be ordering Gold and Captain Black next time.

My current top 5:

1 Highway
2 Dark for Pipe
3 Elder Captain
4 Black for Pipe
5 Indian

Ok I am going to ask a strange question - I can use a ready made e-liquid at 5% as a flavoring. I am going to try some ready made Hangsen tobaccos and I am wondering if anyone in this thread can help me with some descriptions? Hotel - (Hillington) and Smooth - (Silky). I know I am weird. Thanks in advance. ;)
