I never did mind the little things - Now that I DIY I don't really stress about the baddies in the flavoring. As you said, I know how much I use and at that percentage, it doesn't bother me :)
Yeah. Exactly...since most of my flavorings don't have them...a percent or two in a mix, no big deal. Besides, if diacetyl really is so bad for you, where's the popcorn lung in smokers?

I'm well aware that TFA M-Type Premium has been repeated (and thoroughly) trashed here, but it's my favorite flavoring and my regular ADV. When I went to the TFA site to order some more today, there was a notice that M-Type is being discontinued! Fortunately, though, they have posted the recipe for making the flavoring. One of the ingredients is tabanon (at only 1% of the overall M-Type flavoring). Looks like I'll be starting to make my own flavorings now so I can make my own juice. Is that progress?

I guess it could be considered progress lol. For what it's worth, I think FA uses tabanon in at least some of their tobacco flavors but I'm not sure.

I'd suggest starting a separate thread with a heading something like 'suitable substitute for TFA M-Type?'. It might catch a few more eyeballs that way and who knows, you might come up with something you like just as well or even better. Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes.

Yes, I think this is why I want to get some. Normally, my vanilla is only there to smooth or create a mouth feel - but Arabic is very strong flavor and I think I want the vanilla to be more pronounced than to simply serve as a binder bring all other flavors together.
The TFA Vanillin at low percents does a good job for me when I want just a hint of vanilla. I also like it mixed with other vanillas to deepen them. Anways, price is decent so might be worth picking up some to try. I've got the Ina on my radar as well, for the same reason you do lol.

Sahara? Has that slipped under my radar all this time? Or is that another name for Turkish?

Hangsen must have changed the name from Sahara, or else I am confusing it with the e-liquid called Sahara that I used to vape. Either way it is Turkish tobacco - one of these:

TU Tobacco-HS

Turkish Blended-HS

I just ordered vanillin and vanilla Tahiti. Have no clue what % I should use - alone or together. Any ideas?

I'd suggest experimenting regardless of what anybody says. Vanillas are all over the map. But anyways, I'd say start with a mix of 2% Tahiti and 1% Vanillin, and adjust from there.

Edit to add: Also remember that vanillas, even more than tobaccos, need some time to develop. Even just 24 hrs will see a definite change.

I have heard a similar thing about FA adding some type of natural tobacco to their synthetics. Whatever they use, some of their tobaccos are great. Maxx Blend has a similar profile to Dark for Pipe - only better.

Glory is a bit like Highway, maybe a bit nuttier. Tobacco very back note. Easygoing, non-challenging vape.

I love Highway, maybe I will have to try Glory. Would you consider it on the ashy or sweeter side of Highway?

I found this recipe from a guy called HeadInClouds who is a genius with recipes. He is not much of a tobacco guy but this combination makes a great addition to many of my tobaccos. Also very delicious all by itself.

Tiramisu 1%
Vienna Cream 1.5%
Catalan Cream 1.5%

If you want to reduce the sweetness, you can cut down both creams to 1% and add 1% Fresh Cream. All Flavors are Flavor Art.
I have to agree with @aceswired that many of his recipes are a bit on the candy-like side and he has an obsession with fruits and other things I don't care for. And everything he does is Flavourart - check out his "notes on" page at Mamajsflavorshop.com, it is a fantastic guide to most of Flavourart's flavors.

I am using his Homemade Peanut Butter recipe I found on the "other" forum to add to my tobaccos and it is one of the most wonderful nut tobacco vapes I've ever made.

HIC's Homemade Peanut Butter

AP - 3% (yes, 3%! it works here)
Caramel FA - 2%
Hazel Grove FA - 1%
Vienna Cream FA - 1%
Brown Sugar Extra TFA - 0.75%
Coconut FA or TFA - 0.75%

He cautions not to exceed 1% on the Hazelnut or it destroys the recipe.

I'd say the profile is similar. A bit more nutty, a bit less tobacco. Maybe just a tad sweeter. No ash at all.

@Larry J reading an industry article I came to the conclusion that this ingredient might ultimately be controlled. Just spent a half-hour looking for it in my research. But I have been looking out for notices thinking it might be pulled by vendors. I couldn't find any on the TFA or Wizard Labs sites.

I do find these…

Perfumers Apprentice - M Type Premium Flavor
Perfumers Apprentice - Tabanon
M Type Premium Tobacco Flavor Concentrate by TFA (0.27oz)

It's a component I've had difficulty mastering but do have an interest in. It's quite imposing and lingering in its effects. Do you have a link to the notice you mention? The formula for tabanon dilution for flavoring?

Care to share a working recipe or comment on best complementary tobaccos?

Thx for your post. G'luck. :)

Phooey! It's corn chips, take it away! ....Phooey! (Failing attempt at a little humor there lol.)

The Hazel Grove has a couple of good reviews at BC. I'm thinking of adding it to my list. I just wish I could find some good roasted nut flavors. TFA Toasted Almond, while not totally acurate, is on the right track at least.

Anyways, I'll have to sub some different manufactures but thinking of trying this my next mix, that is, if I can bring myself to putting in 3% AP lol. Thanks for posting. :vapor:

I have tried many of Flavor Art's concentrates, and to me, they are far more superior to other companies. A little surprised Inawera is more popular even though they buy several of their flavors from FA.

I know, 3% AP is ridiculous! But trust me, it works here in turning the small amount of hazelnut into a peanut butter - that's why he cautions about going over 1% of hazelnut - it's all about the combination. Personally, I'm no fan of Hazel Grove but in this recipe I like it.
