Well i added my comments, I dont know how much any of this is going to help because i just dont see the FDA laying off until they have total control at this point i think its pretty obvious that we live in a nanny state where the goverment believes only they know what is good for us, and what is not. Its kind of depressing knowing that i finally found something that helped me quit cigs and has improved many things for me but now the FDA is going to do everything it can to eliminate it. I hope im wrong, and i fully admit i have not been doing this for very long, really only since september so im no expert, or vaping guru, I will also say that I have never experienced a community as welcoming as the vaping community, but I also feel that so many dollars have been poured into demonizing smoking that a high tech product that could make smoking seem "cool" again wont be tolerated.

I put in my comments and now all we can do is wait for the results, hopefully we find out whats going to happen soon because the not knowing whats going to happen is making it hard to recommend e-cigs to people. Id feel guilty getting people into vaping only to have the FDA strip it away and then have to go back to smoking i know it will be hard for me.

Very much enjoyed the detailed explanation by Kristin on the details of what the FDA is now considering, I had posted my FDA comment tonight without knowing all the specific details. But as a former heavy and very long-term smoker, who had completely given up on ever being able to quit, I talked about the decades of severe respiratory health consequences I experienced, how e-cigs made it easy to quit within just a week, with NO temptation to return to real cigs -- and the immediate cessation of ALL those negative respiratory symptoms within just a couple of weeks after switching to vaping a year ago. I also stressed at the end the special role e-cigs have that none of the other NRT's offer.

Normally I would not post something so lengthy, but since others shared their FDA comments here I thought it would be alright to do so. Glad this comment opportunity helped a lot of vapers realize how important their involvement is, and I know I will be immediately joining CASAA, when I was meaning to, but hadn't gotten around to it before. I am literally terrified of losing access to decent vaping supplies - in particular how drastically they could limit access to (or tax to the hilt) nicotine liquid. When I heard the news about the EU recently passing a 4% nicotine limit, I was simply stunned.

SO - here is my FDA comment: (I used every single one of my 2000 characters - LOL!)

My husband and I both smoked heavily for over 45 years each. He started at 12, I started at 14. He smoked about a pack a day; I smoked two packs a day for the last few decades. Now age 61, I have had severe chronic bronchitis since I was 35. By age 40 the trips to the ER for 'asthma attacks' started when I could barely breathe - except I do not have asthma. After every cold twice a year, I coughed my guts out for 3 months. I spent a fortune on asthma meds, in addition to the $500 a month we spent on cigarettes. But I had given up all hope of us ever being able to quit.

In December of 2011, I found out about electronic cigarettes, researched on the net to find quality equipment and e-liquids, and we both quit entirely within ONE week of starting with e-cigs - and we could NOT smoke a regular cigarette again. I kept the last carton we bought in the trunk, and one pack in the kitchen, because I was SO proud I had NO temptation to touch them. Within TWO weeks, I abruptly stopped coughing up phlegm every morning for 2-3 hours. We recently passed the 1 year mark, not having smoked a SINGLE cigarette. A bad cold came a month after we switched - minor gripes for 2 weeks, then GONE. I have coughed once or twice in the past year - from choking on a potato chip! Words cannot express what a miracle this was for us, we were hardcore, we were hopeless.

If e-cigs are over-regulated and/or become costly in these tough economic times, it would be a massive tragedy for us, and for the growing millions of e-cigarette users. We now have at least a shot at being around to watch our grandchildren grow up. I am blowing around flavored steam - with a little near harmless nicotine in it. No patch, drug, or gum would have EVER been successful in getting me to stop smoking, even though I knew they would most likely soon kill me. I always knew nicotine addiction was only half of it - the ritual of 'smoking' was the other half of my addiction, which only e-cigs can address.

To Whom It May Concern,
My first experience with traditional cigarettes was 14 years ago, when I was 11. I began smoking regularly at 15, and had reached a (minimum of) one pack-a-day habit by 16 (often reaching 2-2 ½ packs). At 24, I had difficulty walking up a small hill. My health was understandably impaired: lack of lung capacity, reduced stamina/constitution, inability to smell or taste. Since I have made the transition to electronic cigarettes, in October 2012, I have seen all of those side effects disappear. I currently consume three milliLiters of nicotinic liquid, at 12 milligram strength, daily. When I began, I started with an 18 milligram liquid, and I found it to be excessive, even for a 1-2 pack-a-day smoker; I also tried a 6 milligram liquid, and found it lacking (i.e. there was no body to it). 12 milligram liquid is the perfect ‘in-between’. Should the FDA decide to reduce allowable nicotine concentration to 4 milligrams, we would see a drastic reduction in the effectiveness of ‘electronic cigarettes’ as a form of ‘nicotine reduction therapy’. To further the point, why limit the amount of time an individual may use an ‘NRT’? As these are reduced risk alternatives to traditional cigarettes, should we encourage the transition to safer alternatives? There is talk of a ‘deeming’ regulation being placed on ‘electronic cigarettes’, a measure that would effectively be at cross purposes with ‘NRT’s. It is an unfortunate day when we force individuals to pay more money for a healthier, safer, more environmentally conscious, lifestyle. The general public has a lack of knowledge, and a wealth of misinformation, regarding ‘electronic cigarettes’, and I urge you to consider helping and educating them, rather than adding to the confusion by means of omission.

I smoked from the ages of 14-21 and quit upon becoming pregnant. I quit for six years and the cravings never went away. Every second of every day I wanted a cigarette. My depression, anxiety, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder was out of control, no medication my Doctors prescribed was affective. After a high stress period I started smoking again and found that the taste & smell disgusted me but that the nicotine alleviated my stress, ENDED my panic attacks, significantly reduced my Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and diminished my depression. I researched electronic cigarettes and bought my first kit of cigarette-like batteries and cartomizers at a mall. I have since upgraded to a better system of a large Ego battery, tank cartomizers and e-liquids. I have now been self-medicating my OCD and anxiety with electronic cigarettes (in varying fruit and dessert flavors) for two years. Having a safe delivery system of nicotine in flavors that are enjoyable has made my life livable and manageable. Easy access to e-liquids in varying flavors & strengths has made me a better person, wife, and mother. Please do not take away the only therapy that has been effective for me.
