So it's not supposed to help anyone stop smoking, or else... Should they market it to people that are non-smokers?

I believe it's technically marketed as an alternative to smoking, therefore while it's not a quitting device (after all, who said anything about quitting?) it is still not recommended for non-smokers since its an alternative nicotine device.

It's like snus, nobody would recommend it to a non-smoker because it's a nicotine delivery product but at the same time you wouldn't market it as a smoking cessation either.

It is a good day.
You can be assured that if the FDA gets their hand on regulation and PV's are classified as smoking cessation devices, e-cigs will be available only by prescription. This would mean that the pharmaceutical companies will get involved, and you can bet the prices of PV's and e-juice will skyrocket.
Regardless of which way it goes, if the federal government gets involved, it will be a cluster-mess.

You don't ever want to hear this......."I'm from the Federal Government and I'm here to help you".

I wonder how much behind the scene lobbying from the tobacco companies there is to stop the e-cig industry...

Too much to count. The entire problem the e-cigarette revolves around is money from cigarette business. I wish they actually cared, but the FDA allows carpet glue and other nasty stuff in cigarettes to make then "fire safe". They obviously didn't test to see if that's safe, so that's enough proof to me.

Yeah, and good luck getting anything better than 8mg juice.

Keep in mind if e-cigs get regulated like tobacco, then it would be illegal to sell over the internet.

But it's like a catch 22 for them, because you CAN get 0mg juice and vape it. That's not a tobacco product at all. They don't know how to classify it, they're stuck.

Good point. I'm sure they are anxious about banning them. If the e-cig industry takes off, there goes all their money from the future years of poisoning cigarette smokers.

It must already be taking off because of their efforts now. I suspect a lot more people are going to try the alternative because of the economy. I for 1 was limited to only spending 50$ a month on analogs, I can vape a lot more for a lot less now.

Tobacco companies can still make money producing nicotine for liquids if they got on that bandwagon. It's the states that made a windfall with the tobacco settlement that'll be hurting if sales drop. Between that and cigarette taxes, the government is more addicted to smoking that I ever was - and I was bad, let me tell you.

The commercial (forgot brand) started running in my area and it worries me because of some of their 'pitch'. Right at the beginning, guy is blowing vape rings and says, "try that with the patch". Implies it is a smoking cessation device even if not outright stated. Other points: can "smoke" anywhere, tastes just like the real thing and lasts all day from an overnight charge (looks to be a mini ecig so I doubt this claim).

I haven't been on here much lately so if there is a thread about this commercial, I didn't see it.

IMO, this is the sort of thing that regulators should crack down on. I'd prefer by the FCC or FTC (because they're making false claims) rather than the FDA. It's that kind of marketing that's going to hurt how we're percieved more than anything else.

The company in the commercials is BLU. I just saw it and your right, with commercials like that it's just making things harder. It's a shame really since it does really help people quit even if it's not marketed like that. I used to really love this state until i saw our state police blocking the roads to the reservation so "non-american indians" couldn't buy cigs. All because the state couldn't impose the outrageous taxes on them. That didn't last and hopefully this won't either. Fingers XX'd.

Actually it isn't illegal tobuy cigarettes over the internet IF you pay the taxes, I've been doing it for a couple years! The real issue is going to be how much tax is going to be put on devices, accessories, juice or all three! Still and all, I'll pay the taxes rather than go back to those poisonous analogs!

One good thing is that if this goes to the Supreme Court, it's rare that they overturn a decision. You hear a lot about when they do on the news simply because it's a rare event!
