was talking about the huffpost article elsewhere on the interwebs, and people are freaking out about the accusations that e-cig manufacturers will be targeting people under 18. IMO, they will target that demographic, and they will be successful. 90% of current cig smokers had their first one before they were 18. i certainly did, and i would have jumped on a product that was virtually undetectable by parents, but still provided a nicotine buzz.

Many nicotine users never experience a "buzz". I have a theory about that. Substances that supposedly cause a "buzz" cannot do so if that substance is providing relief from a problem.

Example: My husband had a severely pinched disk that was causing him excruciating pain. All oxycodone hydrochloride did for him was relieve the pain enough to permit him to stand up and walk instead of crawling across the floor on hands and knees. He tells me that he never experienced anything that he would describe as a "high" or a "buzz" while taking the medication. (Surgery fixed the problem.)

Similarly, I do not experience a "buzz" from nicotine. All it does for me is allow me to concentrate and pay attention.

In both cases, an imbalance in brain chemistry is being corrected by the substance. In the case of people who experience the buzz, an imbalance in brain chemistry is being created--hence the buzz.

I think that less than 10% of smokers ever got any kind of "buzz" from nicotine.
But I think at least 90% of smokers got a carbon monoxide "buzz" from that first smoke of the morning.
:)

I would love to do a poll on how many smokers got any kind of "buzz" from nicotine...
But I don't think it is possible because too many people think the the carbon monoxide buzz is from nicotine.

The only thing I've ever experienced that I could describe as a buzz was how I felt after smoking a hookah. I would feel very calm, relaxed, and in an overall pleasant mood. I could also feel this way after a nice cigar. But all things considered, I was probably smoking half a pound of tobacco to achieve that feeling.

If a forty-year-old engineer can't figure out why his carto tank is flooding or his clearo is leaking, I seriously doubt a high school kid or a minor would dally long enough to jump the learning curve.

Besides, real cigarettes are "badder" (in the bad boy/girl sense) and more rebellious, and MUCH easier to obtain. Therefore the attraction to electronic cigarettes would probably wane after the first two minutes when they erroneously set it up and get it wrong. I know all parents love their children dearly, but admit it, the vast majority of youth are still.... immature (I was going to use a different adjective but opted for this one, instead).

There is no James Dean-cool factor with teens and electronic cigarettes. At least, none that I've caught on to.

lots of good points in this thread, ecigs are difficult to use, expensive to start, impossible to hide from parents, i mean what parent wouldn't ask questions if their teenager gets a package from an obvious ecig vendor, and in my honest opinion the whole cool factor would go away with making a healthy choice, no teen would brag about how they eat their vegetables lol

i was "cool" when i smoked and now i'd consider myself mature, smart, and lucky that i switched to vaping

oh and how's it going, good seeing ya at vaporcast friday lol
