My world has crashed. I get SSDI. I work part time. I been on it since 1980. Been working on and off part time since 1998. I had over 5 work reviews with no trouble. They are coming after me for $17,477 plus I lost 60% of our income. I went in 3 weeks ago to the office and was yelled at and treated like crap. Was told it was varfied and i was going to pay it back. I had been told I if I went over that month I would have to pay it back and if I was under for that month I would get my benfit. THey went after me for 23 month and only 4 months were over. Doing research I am not over. My job I get mileage. I was told mileage does not count as taxable income. I have called disibility agent they can not help me. Lawyers will not help they do not make money. Sentors are no good. I go back in the 6th to see if they can restart my checks. I have to do a waiver to prove to them that I can not pay this and it going to cause hardship. If they do not get my check back my husband and I will be homeless in May. My husband is 73 years old. He is congestive heart failure and in a wheel chair living on $1091 a month. I will by this Friday have my paystubs so I will have the prove i was not over. I am scared. What if they do not listen to me or look at my edvinence. Do not get my benfits back. We can lose everything. So we been smoking a pack a day. I am not sleeping. In three weeks I have been thinking of killing myself. I am care giver also. Now I can not provide for my husband. There is no help for the disibility people of the USA. This is nightmare and I can not wake up. Over the limit is 1000 bucks a month and the four months equarl $375.00 That going to cost me close to $18000. They got my w2 income for 09 wrong. They said I made 7000 and mine shows 6788. They would not even look at my w2 last time I was in there. I just do not know what to do. Our goverment is going to put handicap person and terminal ill Vientman veteran on the streets in May. Nc only thing we can get is food stamps. There is no money for emergency unless you are illegal and got kids.

I dont know what to say my heart goes out to you and your husband. If you cant find help from normal channels I'd got to the local TV channal advocate or newspaper advocate. I dont care how small town your from one of those 2 options should be available to you. Its not like NC a 3d world country. I know it might be embarassing to put out your problems to the public for all to see but you'd be surprise how good hearted people can be and the print & TV media love to look like helping heros to those who have been unduly treated. Unsure is correct, if your records are correct those "on your side" reporters like to draw attention to "The Establishment" sticking it to John Q Public.
It will likely get your situation fixed and make your community aware of your situation and I am sure your good neighbors would do anything to keep you on your feet until the problem is resolved.

They are constantly overworked, but even if they say they can't take your case right now, search the NC legal aid website and contact some of the private attorneys who volunteer through Legal Aid. They will be more inclined to help you, either inside or outside Legal Aid. A lawyer will help you sort through your options and will give you the information that you need to produce the best possible case.

Additionally, you might be offered support through a local church. You have to let them know you need help.

Very sorry to hear this, this type of stuff is happening in many places, I know of 2 couples sharing this plight. Yes, by all means use Legal Aid, news stations, newspapers what ever it takes. Fighting with the govt is an experience I wish on no one family. Keep up the good fight and keep us posted, my prayers are with you.
As your husband is a veteran you might the Veteran Admin Veterans Benefits. No vet should be treated by the gov/ like this.

My heart goes out to you! You need to call the IRS immediately and request a corrected copy of your W2. DO NOT wait to do this. Call them tomorrow!
Also, is your husbands disability service connected? If it is, and he has been declared "terminally ill" then he should be getting 100% disability from Uncle Sam. You'll need to go see the Disabled Veteran's of America (DAV) counselor at your local VA hospital and have them take his case. They'll make sure that he gets his disability. They might be able to help you with some other assistance as well. Don't let these people bully you, because that's exactly what they're doing. If you went over for only 4 months, then you should only be responsible for the overage during those months. No more than that. Period. Don't be a victim and fight back!
Call your local news stations and newspaper. Tell them what's happening to you. I bet someone would be interested in knowing one more way that the government is hurting people who need the most help. Tell them how you were treated. Oh, get the names of all the people you talk to and work your way up the ladder if you have to. Say "And what is your name?" get an answer. "Thank you. And who is your supervisor?" Ask to talk to their supervisor and just keep going like that if you have to. Don't stop until you get the assistance and answers you deserve! Always be calm and polite, no matter what happens. Save the ranting and yelling for when you're out the door.
The government wants you to roll over and just take it. DON'T DO IT! I've been dealing with the VA like this for years. It's frustrating, but I'm getting results by just being polite and sticking to my guns.
As WOH said... get your W2 corrected. The company that paid you should do it. It sounds as if, instead of putting it in the special box for that category (forget which one) they just lumped it in with your total salary. THEY need to fix it.. but it takes work, so they may not want to do it.

My heart hurts for you and your husband. Please do all the thngs the people above here have suggested. Everyone one of those posts above me have great ideas...so please do check into those ideas. Please Take a deep breath...and please remember if something happens to you, your husband will be alone and you don't want that. Please seek out a minister or priest or a councellor and explain your situation. Next, do you have any family or friends that can help you deal wth ths situation ? Sometimes, having someone there with you can help .
Honesly, I believe if you contact the media...it will put your story " out here" where someone who can help might see it. I think that's a great suggestion.

I'm really sorry to hear about your struggles....
Something I have learned from experience,and this is something I don't think most people are aware of....is this...to get any type of help..thru the state/govt...it's not easy...first of all to get or if your lucky and do....to keep. You have to continually jump thru their hoops and unfortunetly be your own advocate bc they have a tendency to screw you if you aren't paying attention.....I don't mean to cause an upset, I'm sure the system has worked the way it's supposed to for someone at sometime..But I also know that every manmade system is flawed bc it's created/implemented/ran by us humans which are flawed by default.
Just saying I feel your frustration...you're almost damned if you do and damned if you don't. My advice is to fight and keep your chin up....don't let them break you down....keep asking for help/advice....someone somewhere has been in your shoes and figured out a way to beat this. Don't give up or ever lose hope...I saw someone suggested churches, which is a great suggestion, they may even know of an advocate that could help....also you could get free consults with local lawyers, some do low cost or probono case work and some only charge if they win you a settlement.....you have options, you just have to figure out which one will be best.....
I will keep you and yours in our family's prayers.....remember keep faith that good things come to those in need, even if the road is dark and rock at times.
