i have spent a small fortune on various concentrates , vg , pg , nicotine bases , syringes , pippettes dropper bottles . and i have only managed to make 1 solitary mix that i enjoy . a 0 nicotine 100% vg ( 85 vg / 15 deironised water) watermelon and menthol mix. love it. but everything else is turning to waste. its either tastless or so it gets a ring of what looks like crystalised sugar on top. the most recent attempt at cinnamon fireballs. has crudded up so badly its ruined the case for my vivi nova.

what i would love to know is , what disasters have you had. and what did you do to remedy the failings? :D please tell me in not the only incompetant out there!

The "disasters" I've had are too numerous to even attempt a start at writing them down here.

What I did was start taking notes. I hate taking notes, but I started a notebook and started writing down everything I was doing. I made notes on the outcomes too. I made notes about my notes. I hate taking notes, but I started to see something in that stupid notebook...

I started DIY to make one flavor. It took me about 5 months and many "disasters", well actually some of the mistakes were pretty good, just not what I was attempting to make, before I figured out that one flavor. By that time I had a small list of other recipes for other stuff.

Been vaping only my own mixes for years now. I even wrote a blog to help others learn from my mistakes.

I placed quotations around disasters because I don't think there are any. What you call disasters, I call figuring out one way not to do what I wanted to do which means I'm one step closer to what I wanted to do. The biggest setback to any of my mistakes has been chucking an atty. I'm crazy, but I'm not wealthy enough to put an experiment into a tank or carto as most mistakes in an atty can be rinsed out with a bit of alcohol. I tend to use my well worn, nearly dead, attys for testing anyway so if I kill one it's not a loss really.

My absolute best tip for you- Click on that guy's name above me. (Hoosier in case anyone posts while I am typing) Read his blogs. Read his blogs again. Can't beat Hoosier's advice, he IS the guru.

My measley little peon DIYer advice is start simple. Mix one flavor. Try it at several strengths. Start small, over flavor will kill it more than it will give it ummph. Then once you are able to make good single flavor recipes, you can begin to play with more complex juices.

The only real mistakes i make is when i put 2 or 3 too many drops of menthol flavoured vg e liquid into a mix of 70%ecopure rich(100%vg) and 15% old holborn pg. I'd smoked old holborn for years so i know what i want when it comes to taste and aftertaste. If i use too much menthol then obviously it will taste like that. The idea of adding menthol is to neutralize the sweetness of the base liquid whilst adding that dry aftertaste that i'd get from smoking tabacco. The aftertaste is the most important part. This mix is so much like the real thing it's surprising. The menthol makes a world of difference. It works on more than one level. So you know i don't try and turn mixing into some sort of complicated science because it isn't. You just need to know what flavour it is that you are looking for to begin with. If you have no real target then you will get lost making all kinds of concoctions and end up wasting not only your time but a tonne of e liquid. Try using just a few drops of menthol, maybe 7 or 8 to every 1ml of base liquid in adition to any flavour you use. In fact i would go as far as to say that menthol can replace the dryness you get from pg. You just need to use the right amound. Which is very little !. ITS ALL ABOUT THE AFTERTASTE

I have solely vaped DIY for months now and it's only one flavor - watermelon and menthol! How funny is that? I would like to try other things but have been trying to keep things simple and cheap and not go too crazy since a lot of flavors people rave about don't do it for me.

I had to count drops because my syringe was too fat to go in bottle. Thought I had everything. Hate to pay shipping on a $1.00 order for 1 cc tiny syringe thing or even pipettes plus didn't want to wait. I counted drops from the attempt at pour it slowly out. Worked for the first six drops and then of course mess, not sure how much I used or spilled and recipe called for a lot more than I imagined 20 drops to be so ended up diluting my pre mixed nicotine base to the point of who knows...something too weak for me, plus I was planning on adding plain VG to thicken it up and get more vapor. All for 3 ml test size. So at least I did one thing right....small test amount. Then on the menthol project I knew one drop from concentrate would make a mess and I could not find any toothe picks. I ended up using some weed wacker line. Great the recipe has to say 1 drop from 65 gage weed wacker line. Then my raspberry ended up tasting like cough syrup to ME.... I posted help What to mix menthol with besides tobacco and fruit flavorst was the only one I got. Well, had to dump the raspberry. And so it goes.

Faylool, go to your local pharmacy and get a bunch of syringes. Occasionally a pharmacy will lie and tell you need a prescription. Go to another one. Go to a vet's office. Tell them it's for crafts, there is nothing illegal (in most states, anyway) about owning a syringe.

For starting out, get a bunch of 1cc and several 5cc. Drops are the most inaccurate measurement possible, sounds like you are seeing that. Syringes with the needle removed can work for VG as well, just go slowly.

its great thought isnt it . i use , 80% diluted vg 15% watermelon and 5% menthol. the menthol is far stronger than the watermeon ofcourse but the underlying flavour of the watermelon is to die for.

I made a cinnamon juice and it came up very strong. It did ruin one tank. I am now just using it to drip sometimes...

ive just odered a replacement tube for my vivi nova which im not happy about but nvm. it turns out that grey crystalized crud im getting is due to using too much of the flavour concentrate. for my next attempts im going to also try steeping the mixture in hot water before throwing them immediately into my tanks. because this apparently helps them to blend. i often get that crud sitting at the top of my eliquids so clearly by running 20%+ flavour im going too far without necessary precautions of steeping ,( usually i just shake it and vape it)

with regards to your cinnamon. i have read that as it is such an intense flavour it is advisable to use no more than 8% concentrate.

i am btw just scanning information from other posters. im a complete novice at this kind of thing but if i see anything im going to share it aha. unforunately i cant remember the names of the members so cant give them the deserved quotation when these things work out.
