The problem wasn't following the instructions--the problem was using a syringe! I couldn't seem to get the syringe to fill up. It took forever. One syringe that I was using had a "removable needle". I tried pushing so hard to get the liquid into the fill hole that the needle popped off and juice was everywhere. I've just never had use in my life to learn how to use a syringe and it works so much differently than on the Dr.'s shows. (I never saw Dr. Kildare splash medicine all over himself while preparing to give an injection!)

LOL, I didn't mean to imply you weren't following instructions. I need to take the time to read things closer. My apologies! Being old, ya gotta forgive me. Everyone else does ... sometimes.

Okay, take the needle off of the syringe, fill the syringe then put the needle back on. I keep a tiny pair of needle nose pliers handy for getting them on tight and then getting them back off again. Believe me, I've blown e-juice all over the place until I started doing that.

When I fill the carto, I do it slowly and keep a thumb and index finger on the top of the needle ... just in case. But doing it steadily and slowly is the secret and of course, getting it back on tight.

Even better. I only put 0.7 mL in the syringe, and there was no resistance so probably could have held a bit more. Thanks so much!

You should be able to get about twice that amount of juice inside. When I use a syringe, I usually get about .75ml into them, but that's using the proper fill port underneath that plastic cap you are injecting into. Use a paperclip or a similar size metal tool to insert into one of the two small holes in that plastic barrier, and work it loose to pry it out. Then you'll see a larger hole or tube in the center of the carto. You'll need to pierce that with something sharp and sturdy to create the hole for the syringe. Then you can squirt juice directly into the filler material. This is the "correct" way to fill them, according to Joye. I think they made it such a hassle because they don't really WANT us to refill them! That's why I just drip into the metal tip. But you can use your same tool to slowly inject into the metal tip provided you only insert it 1/4 inch at most, until you feel resistance, then back it out a bit. If you squeeze slowly, I'll bet you can get at least .6ml inside if not .8ml before you see liquid at the mouthpiece end.

Sitting here the day after Christmas watching a football game and refilling cartos.

I got all my 510's together and was preparing them to be refilled when I had another of my brilliant ideas. I heated the tip of a large paperclip and slightly enlarged the two holes in the seal plug. When I reinserted them and drew on the 510 I got a massive cloud of vapor and flavor.

I found the larger hole made it easier to get the seal plug in and out also. But the difference in the draw was pretty amazing. Try it on one and see what you think.

I think if the 510 ended up upside down in your shirt pocket, the seal plug might prevent a mess ... I guess chances of hat happening are slim though. Heck, I might just start throwing them away too.

I didn't throw them away, but I left them out and put them all in a plastic bag while I checked out how the cartos worked without them. The advantage was that without that little barrier piece in there, you could insert the syringe needle right through the mouthpiece without taking anything apart! That was pretty cool. But, just today I put them all back in. I found that leakage of juice into the mouthpiece worse without that piece in there. And with my automatic batteries (I have about half auto, half manual), I was having to draw harder to activate the auto batteries. So I put them all back in today. Ironic that I should spot this thread within an hour of having done that.

If you use only manual batteries and don't mind occasionally sucking a little juice into your mouth (hey, I kind of like it with some flavors!), leaving out that barrier sure makes using a syringe a hell of a lot easier! Straight into the mouthpiece hole and into the filler, no disassembly required! :)

Ahha, I hadn't thought of leaks. I only use a Riva right now and usually stand it on end. After using these cartos for the better part of 2 weeks they are by far my favorite, but I'm getting excited about the eGo tank that's coming out and I'm also itching to pick up a wood bottom feeder mod.. just holding out for that tank first hoping it's as good as it looks.
