1-2 pack a day smoker for 30+ years ... my 510 starter kit arrived last weekend and I think this is gonna do it!

I'm an advertising writer/designer and the smoking ritual long ago became an integral part of my working/thinking process. In fact, I tried to cold-turkey once while working in an ad agency -- after two weeks off the butts and still struggling to find ways to be productive without my crutch, my (smoker) boss went out and bought a pack of my brand, put it on my desk, and said "Light one now or I have to fire you. I need my best writer back!" That was the best excuse for NOT quitting I ever had and I leaned on it for a decade.

I've been a freelancer for years now, chain-smoking (or at least chain-lighting and burning) from the comfort of my recliner while I work. Started hearing about e-cigs last year, though I've yet to meet another vaper IRL. At the doctor's insistence, I'd already tried everything else in the smoking cessation armory, without success. My SO is also a pack-a-day smoker who hasn't been ready to quit, which hasn't helped my willpower. But the worst was the writer's block that inevitably came with any attempt to quit. Doesn't make any difference how much the stinkers cost if they're tied to your ability to make a living!

Over the past five days, I've finally figured out how to load and prime a cartomizer properly, how to draw to produce a decent vape, and already become frustrated with the short battery life of the 510 auto (though I love the form factor). I must be a heavy hitter, because I'm barely able to get one batt recharged before the one I'm using is dead. But I've had just 4 analogs since Saturday and only resorted to those when both 510 batteries were down at the same time -- and I've been working steadily. And the best news is, SO has been watching with great interest, tried vaping mine a few times ... and yesterday, asked me to order another kit so we can kick the analogs together.

So an eGo-C kit is on the way, as well as an eGo pass-through. Also have three sampler sets coming from Mt. Baker, Gen-X and AIV, based on reviews found here on ECF. Between the mix-and-match 510/eGo parts, I figure we should be able to both get our vape on quite happily.

Thanks, folks, for sharing your experiences here on the forum. Finding ECF pushed me to give vaping a try. Right now, the only thing I'm afraid of is spending too much time reading ECF and shopping e-cig supplies to get any work done!

Welcome to ECF - sounds like you are doing well. Great that the SO is also going to join you. I have to think that getting better equipment and batteries that last longer will really help - I know that once I got my eGo Twist, some clearomizers and better juice I just never had another cigarette.

This was after smoking for 46 years and no intention to actually quit - I just started vaping to see if I could cut down on the 30+ cigarettes I was smoking every day. Oh and yes - reading on ECF does become just as addictive as vaping

Welcome peakcomm. I totally understand how analogs can be tied to your ability to work. I am a self-employed programmer and work from home, so everytime I would hit a snag, I'd just go outside, have a smoke, and think through the problem - repeatedly. And, I too, was concerned that giving up analogs would leave me without my thinking crutch. Glad to say that the ego-C worked perfectly... no problems whatsoever with switching over and haven't had an analog in three months. I also think I'm a hard-hitting chain vaper too - as soon as one battery is dead the other one just finishes charging so I'm planning to upgrade to a mod with a bigger battery and longer charge. It's great that your SO is interested and getting on board too which will definitely help you both stay off analogs. Well, good luck on your vaping journey and glad to have you on ECF!

Congrats!! I just got my pass-through in the mail yesterday and I'm thrilled with it. Highly recommend it for anyone in the position to "work vape" throughout the day, be it a home office or a vape-accepting workplace.

Congratulations peakcomm and welcome to ECF! Upgrading your eCig was a smart move and as you continue to move forward in your vaping journey, I think you'll find, as I have, it only gets better as your knowledge grows. eCigs have come a looooooooooong way since I first started. Hang in there with vaping and hang with ECF.... it pays off in the long run :smokie:

Congrats as well. You two are going to love it :)

BTW, Madvapes carries larger cig-a-like batteries, about twice the mAh of the standard ones, and Smoketek has a 1300 mAh sealed automatic.

I also agree with other members that a Twist or Spinner, in the 1000 mAh or 1300 mAh size, might be a good upgrade. There's a LOT to be said about variable voltage (VV) and either of those are an inexpensive entry to that.

VV lets you "fine tune" your vape for different resistance coils / cartos, and for different juices.

And yes, automatics are really nice for when you want to have both hands free.

And by all means, go with what works for you!

I'm also a 45 year plus smoker (I did quit once for over 4 years) so my expectations are high that I can quit for good after I pick up my eGoc Twist kit this weekend! :p

How long since you've quit smoking?

Thanks for all the "attaboys", folks. After all these years, it's downright exciting to think I've finally found a way to deal with that dang monkey on my back -- let him ride, but de-fang the evil monster!

And special thanks to cactus71 for empathetic acknowledgement of the thinking-and-smoking connection. I don't know how many times I've tried to explain to well-meaning family, friends and physicians that it wasn't "just an excuse" when I said that quitting gave me writer's block. I've seen at least one study that suggested nicotine actually changes the way your brain synapses fire.

Of course, I know the habit can be bigger than the addiction, and millions have managed to beat both, cold turkey. Good for them. But for me, the added stress of trying to change such fundamental behavior as HOW I MAKE A LIVING just doomed me. Now I have hope that I can be a happy, healthier, but still fully employed addict. And I can do it while I smell and taste blueberry cobbler or vanilla ice cream instead of stinking ashtrays.

Wow. What a concept.

That was the hardest part for me. I'm definitely a creature of habit and now I can get rid of the bad stuff while keeping my "habit"

Congrats on the switch
