Finally got a few RM2s.

They work great! I watched a bunch of Videos on coil wrapping and what Ohms I would end up with with how many wraps on different sized "dowels". Needless to say I snapped my first coil, my next two went great. I made a 1 Ohm coil for myself and a 1.5 Ohm for Pixie. We are both using 18mg juice. Mine is unflavored and she has flavors. The flavor they pump out compared to the smoktech super shortys is absurd. And the increased vapor is nothing to shake a stick either. Saddened I did not go this route a year or so ago...

Yeah Jan, it did take me a long time. My problem was I started with cartomizer tanks, then with the REOs just cartomizers. When I tried atomizers before I either flooded them or burnt them. With the cartomizers it was easy, squonk and light pull until the gurgle then vape. Also I was intimidated of making my own coils, the videos really helped with that.

What set it going was our trip to TN to visit the other Mother. There was a vapeshop in Solway, TN. This kid was in there with a Hannah and some dripper, and when he hit it the place filled up with thick white clouds. I talked him into letting me put my juice in his and getting a pull or 20. The first thing I realized was 18mg is way too high for me, the next was I could taste the nic (I use unflavored) really strong. Still not close to what his did, he was vaping at 30 Watts on dual coils. A lot better than the shorty cartos we were using though.

When we got back I read all about how to use rebuildables, which ones worked with original Grands and Mini 2.1s, and which ones most REO users were using. I decided on the RM2 then went to videos for building coils. Then came the fun part of talking Pixie into trying it with me, which was surprisingly easy.

And thanks to the_vape_nerd for vaping tampons to let us all know to carry a little cotton at all time in a baggy.

Just think, you have something to 'tinker' with now. Exploring wicking material, resistance levels, coil making techniques, air hole sizes, coil positioning, dialing in your personal tastes. It's fun, not by any means intimidating or overwhelming.

Hey Rudy! I remember selling you a Woodvil a year or so back. If I remember right, a coworker stole it off of your desk? I would love to have one again, but am still afraid of them dropping. You should see my set of Grands, nicks and dents all over the place. My tumbled one even got run over at the car lot...

Yeah, they seem like they could be a lot of fun. But as you can from my track record, I find something that works and just stick with it. I have been using those smoktech shorty cartos since they came out, and the REO has been going since about June of 2012. All I have is switch from Panasonic batteries to AWs. They could probably do well with going to Rob for a rebuild and the new SO kit.

For wicking, I will most likely stick to the Organic Cotton. 1 Ohm seems to be great for me. I am thinking about the dual coils, but will most likely stick with just one, it just seems safer and easier. The videos and explanations in here got me to figure out my coil placement pretty well, it took very minimal fiddling to get it just right after I got the first one done. After that when I made Pixie's coil it was super easy. Already talking to friends about a drill press to enlarge the airhole. And yeah, definitely not intimidating at all, and the only thing overwhelming is the possibilities.

Just ordered some more VG as I have to seriously cut down my Nic. It is giving slight headache and a heavy feeling in my chest. And will be going back to flavors. I gave up on flavors because after two days the cartos stopped giving me flavor. With these I just pop out the Wick, roll a new one and call it good! A bag of cotton balls is a lot cheaper than a pack of Cartos. I took baby steps into the DIY juice, and just took the plunge with HDV's 20% off sale. Picked up 7 flavors that we both like, some bottles, larger syringes, two Liters of VG that should hold us over in the zombie outbreak. We will most likely just drop Nic out of the scenario, it is not needed after two years anyway. For us it is all about the flavor and clouds, and dropping Nic means I will need some type of flavor.

About opening up the air hole. The RM2 is brass and it's pretty soft metal. You can open up the air hole pretty easily by just reaming it out with something. I picked up a bead reamer from Michaels (but I've seen them at Walmart) and just reamed mine out. It's just a round shaped file. Do a little at a time because there's no undoing it.

Thats no joke ....... there really is no way to go back ....... I've tried over the last couple years and I've never had a carto on for more than an hour. I used to love putting a carto on for Mtn Biking or skiing so I didn't take my 170 dollar chalice attys on a death mission. Cant do it anymore ..... if I kill a RBA so be it the vape is worth it.

Yes Honkey you remember correctly. As you can see by my avatar I've added to the woody collection. Jan was kind enough to part with a mini woody after hearing my sob story and went from there. I have been taking them out more and found the woodies to be tougher than you think.
Regarding opening you airholes, be careful as it doesn't take much to become too airy thus losing flavor. I went to 1/16 but found it to airy for me so went back to 3/64 and found it perfect. Everyone has their personal taste, I just like a slighter tighter draw which I found a bit warmer and more flavor but that's just me. Point being that 3/64 to 1/16 doesn't seem like much but belive me it is!
I don't fiddle anymore, as you said once you find your sweet spot there is no reason to change, then it gets to a point where you get into auto mode with coil building and wicking. Bing, bang, boom..done, same everytime!
I also cut way down in nicotine. Went from 18 to 12 now at 6 and DIY. I found myself using as a pacifier and vaping alot more since getting the RM2 thus cut down as to not OD on nicotine! You will find that you will need to dilute your flavors as well. To me they are way strong! I just add a few drops of flavor to my 6ml bottle and that's plenty for me. When I change flavors just dry burn and new wick.
Getting to be a book now as well, sorry.

The other day while going thru a junk box from my move last year I found all kinds of stuff. One was a new bridgeless LR and a HH357. These were the brass ring for me back before RBAs and even after (I hate change) anyway I threw the HH on and wow....what low standards I had back then.

While I'm super late to the rebuildable party... it struck me really funny to read that. I just - not an hour ago - threw away a short and long barrel HH. I really liked those on my top feeder but just couldn't ever get the hang of feeding them on a REO... the top feeder has been scrap for a couple of years, and I had cleaned and primed those HH's for some future time when I wanted to try again. The RM2 made me decide I'll never try again. I didn't even experience my normal remorse about throwing a 50 dollar bill in to the bin.

I still remember going to aquarium section of the pet store to by blue foam filter to cut into strips and stuffing blank cartos to replace the poly fibers! That was modding back then!! Held 18 drops of liquid and mounted on a 2.0 atty on a Ego which was a step up from my pencil stick ecig I bought at a county fair for like $125!!!!
We've come a long way baby!!

Well you heard of the expression "old dogs and new tricks)" I've caught up to the times and even got one of those new fangle flip cell phones not to mention a tv (colored no less) J/K Ok seriously I do have a flip cell phone.
