Hiding up a tree
Hello all,

I am new to the forums here (at least in terms of being a member etc), but not new to vaping, I have been vaping on and off for a year or two now, but I just cant seem to stay off ciggies completely.

I have finally got a set up and flavours that I like, but I am finding it hard to stay just with the vaping, it is mainly the association I have with needing to have a cigarette when I have a cup of tea (which is frequently with me being English and all).
Plus there is the 'break' factor, I mean the whole making a cup of tea and going outside for a cig and getting a break from my desk etc...

Any tips for staying off the 'analogues' completely? And what to do for the cup o tea association?

What worked for me - was finding a flavor I was in  with AND I had the same issue - it was my time *away* from my desk. If I dont go outside I do not get a few minutes of peace - I will be hunted down. LOL. So I just carry my vape right outside to the smoking area I used to go smoke at and follow the routine precisely as I did before with vape instead of smoke.

Maybe find a specific flavor to be your "tea break" flavor?

Hey Penstyle,

Yeah, the set up is all good, rebuilt Davide Glassomizer with cotton wick and microcoil, produces great vapour and the flavour I am using at the moment is a delight.
The taste is not really the issue, as I do agree with you that the taste of vaping is far nicer than that of a cigarette, but it is just the call of the cigarette (rolled myself) as a compliment to the cup of tea, such is the association in my mind.

It is odd, but it just doesn't feel right to me to be vaping with a cuppa.

^^ That is *very* normal and will fade. When you change your rituals, some changes are more noticeable than others, it feels "off". Just set out your new ritual and keep doing it every day and before you know it - it will be odd no more.

That might work CreepyLady :) I am a 'fruity man' (in terms of vaping), so maybe I need to get a savoury flavour to complement the cup of tea, also having it reserved for just tea-break time is a really good idea.
I have kind of had bad experiences with tobacco flavoured juices, all tasting either nothing like cigarettes or tasting like an ashtray, maybe Bacon flavour is the route to go down...

First, you have to want to do this. If you aren't committed to quitting - you won't. The tea itself isn't the problem here. It's the using the tea as an excuse to keep smoking that's the problem. You need to sort out what is a genuine craving issue for a cigarette that you are having a hard time replacing vaping with, versus what is just a comfortable association with smoking that you simply don't want to part with. I had serious smoking withdrawal/craving problems when I started, but I didn't have specific things associated with smoking that were a source of a problem.

For me it was one of the things at the back of my mind....coffee and vaping, would it work. I cant say that it has just like a ciggie but I find being off ciggies to be a greater importance. This is life changing stuff. Up until now I have drunk far less coffee than when I was smoking. It's only recently that I have got back to coffee drinking with my vape. The key I found was finding the right flavour. For my tastes it had to be something rich. I find house of juice el toro perique to fit the bill. Its very cigar like, not for sure as I was never a big cigar smoker but its rich and dense and smokey. That is one of the only things that has let me vape and drink coffee. good luck finding something that works for you and just be happy your not drinking tar with your tea, I find that boosts my experience too.

When i switched to vaping i had the mindset of "I want this to replace smoking, not become a subsitute". What i mean by that was, I look at vaping as a totally new and different experience from smoking. It helps me to avoid smoking. I never went with the cigalikes for that very reason. I wanted a new experience not just a subsitute. That's what worked for me though.

There is something to be said about wanting to quit. For me, I made sure that my nic was strong enough and I carried my vaporizer everywhere I went. Even had spare stuff in the car. I did not want to leave room for excuses.

Anyway, by getting into vaping, I found a hobby. I believe in it and so I enjoy it. Helping myself and helping others is a good purpose.

Doublewe, Everybodys got such good remedies and suggestions here. Ive intentionally left the analogs behind when working a long day and found its not the white knuckle ride cold turkey has been during prior attempts. I didnt have nic fits which was my biggest fear, and somewhat confusing! Other than longing for the klink of my zippo and wiff of the fuel its been suprisingly easy. I think its just a matter of making up your mind that you actually do want to give them up. Its worth what little effort it requires. Its almost to easy, it just doesnt feel right, like Ive missed an important and painful step somewhere along the way. Its been effortless going a day or two without smogs, but it did seem a hare lonely. Lacking the comfort of my 30+ yr old friend. My breathing has got so much better, easier than before. That started the 2nd day of being a non-smoker. I have much more energy and free time. If you want to quit, and thats a must, you gotta want to quit! Set yourself up for success. This is what I did. Make sure you have all the batteries, juice, chargers etc near by that you'll need. Depending on your personality, Either leave the smogs behind, or for sanity sake, I put an unopened pack and good lighter in the car. Not to smoke, but if the end of the world comes about, they're there, no worries ; }. Commit to giving it hell, and just use your ecig. Say good bye to your old friends. Its really no sweat with nicotine still available, drawing in and exhaling out vapor. To me it was like bumming smokes off a co-worker rather than my Marlboros. I found it a minor inconvenience. My MVP gave me the throat and chest hit, draw and close enough taste that it was no big deal. I felt like I was cheating. I hope you can find the inspiration and motivation to leave the smogs behind if that is your choice. You have to make that choice, want that goal and are willing to work for it. You will find it is the easiest job you ever had, and the pay back is never ending. Your back gets sore from all the atta-boys and hugs from your family! Awesome!! Good Luck Doublewe I know you can do it if you just give it a try.

Habits, patterns and rituals are the hardest parts to overcome. I just found that when I tried to change my rituals I failed every time. It was much easier when I followed the same patterns but with my vape. I even carried around my first crappy little blu cig for the longest time because it just felt more like smoking. Strange but true.
