12 months on and stuck on 26ga SS with the occasional 28ga coil build, and then I saw a You Tube video and watched this guy take a pin and a rope of cotton formed together in one hand...he then wrap a 32ga wire around the pin cotton rope to form a perfect pre-wicked 32ga coil after removing the pin, like wow.

Just thought I would share this trick...I mean it took me 12 months to find this gem.

That’s the old school microcoil method. Used to be the only way anyone did it. It’s also the only way to get a reasonably low ohm rating out of a 32g single coil. A lot of the older Artie’s like Russians and stuff actually require it.

It works. The only problem is the single 32g coils are so thin they don’t last very long, and because there’s so little surface area they don’t produce very much vapor. Definitely a MTL only method.

I hear the intro song from All in the Family with Archie and Edith singing "Those Were the Days!" Haha.

Yeah, it took some advancement of batteries ability to handle sub-ohm vaping. Before that, people stayed above 1ohm and the tiny coils were what we made. Heck, I remember when we wrapped spaced-coils vs compressed!

At this point all my coils look like a slinky.

I might try something similar, it sounds fun. However, given my knitting skills and even tension on the wire, I bet I could make something substantial, honestly.

It would be nice not to have to wick it.
Anna
It is and it isn’t. They’re nearly impossible to rewick at all so you toss the coil when the cotton wears out. Also they tend to be lumpy. They also don’t last very long. Plus of course they’re really really tiny. There’s a reason things aren’t done that way anymore.

I still have a few ceramic CE cups and 510 RDA from Atmomixani (sp?). I forget the name of it, it's so old lol. IIRC the largest wire you could use was 32 or 30ga. It was made specifically for carto tank use. I may dig some tiny wire out and give a go if some old school MTL. Gonna have to bump the nic back up to 20 for MTL tho haha! Bust out my MAP tank and slap it on a Zmax.

Gee our old Lasalle ran great!

Yeah but I'm going to make a big one. Toothpick and a fair amount of wick I have a feeling I could do it. It's kind of like just really minimizing the whole coil jig thing.

Yes. I will let you know how it doesn't turn out. LOL.

Anna
Oh I think it will work. I’ve made them. They work. I’m just saying there are reasons people use bigger coils now. Depending on various things it may even work better for you. There are after all still people who make coils like this.

Since you seem intent on trying it, this was also the standard way to use silica wicks, which may last a bit longer for you as you can dry burn them. Also because the glass isn’t as flexible they tend to come out a bit straighter. This is only useful if you still happen to have some silica wick lying around. Not worth going out and getting some.

Also a toothpick may not be a great choice. It’s not the size it’s the roughness of the wood. May be hard to remove. A metal pin works better because it’s smoother.

Deal. Not today possibly, I will try to remember. But, landlord is ruining my life by obstinately continuing with like the plumbers he "hired." I'm not letting the landlord let them in because the kid's dog is a rescue dog and she's in a new place and well.... They also stole my giant vat of bar mops, (like 500 of them, and the vat) so if they are in here, I am going to have to follow them around.

THIS MAY mean plumbers crack will be witnessed and having MET the plumbers, OMG. I do NOT want to see that but I also do NOT want my and my husbands items/tools etc. STOLEN.

So God knows about today other than it may suck.

There will be legislation in your area about this stuff. There will be some sort of legal aid agency or tenants rights organization or some such that can tell you the specific particulars.

There is federal law then state law then county law then city law and all of them make successive changes to the way it works so it will vary somewhat.

I can tell you how it works in mine though.
In my area. This may vary (possibly a lot) from the way it is in your area:
a tenant must receive 24 hours notice about a repair person entering the apartment. After that though the tenant must let a repair person into the unit as the landlord has a right to maintain his property.
A landlord must hire qualified workmen for a given job. Depending on the work various licensure or certification will apply.
The landlord is responsible if the Workman damages or steals any property of yours. (So if a workman stole a vat of your bar mops the landlord owes you for the replacement)

The landlord probably knows the law. This doesn’t mean he will follow it, but he probably knows it. For example if the landlord receives permission from a tenant to get a repair person in earlier that’s fine.

I have no idea about all of it, but yeah I will have to let them in. He has stated his relatives will come let them in, but he has not stated they will supervise them.

It may be a moot point for today, if they aren't here by 8:30 they probably are not coming. If that is the case I will probably grab some Advil for my toe and then bathe and do yoga.

This whole thing sucks and the leak is "Fixed" so it's not like further damage will be done or anything but gah.

I just told him the plumbers were going to have to give me reasonable estimates of when they need in. I have a right to be present, especially since they have stolen and damaged stuff.

Yes I would like my bar mops replaced.

IDK what the "penalty" is for drinking poison water for 3 months but it's Douglas so they would probably laugh if I wondered to the agency about it.

I'm just gonna see what happens. It's not cool though.

in my area they do have to specify an arrival time block. No idea about yours of course.

Well they are here, they will be in today (late) or tomorrow. I guess they do have to come in to flush everything out, but my kiddo is super tired (he worked 7 straight days and then got up at 2:30 to drive here, so he's napping.) Then we have the "work" event.... so. It may be all for the best if we go to Bisbee tomorrow. Mainly I am just happy to see my kid etc. I can probably take him clothes shopping, and we can quietly have dinner in.

The landlord sounded relieved when I like, told him the water we got was like 15 bucks, he says he will replace my bar mops either way, and he'll deduct it from the rent. He (again) offered to find a cleaning service, and I just laughed and said not to worry about it, I would have to do something about the floor anyway the kid's dog is 50% fur and she sheds like crazy. I also had to tell him water came in with the storm, (through the back door) but it was a pretty crazy storm but I had NO INTEREST in fixing it other than on HIS time frame and well, it could totally WAIT, I just needed to notify him, which was what I was doing.

I think we are copacetic he really is a nice guy other than perhaps not just being upfront to start with, which always just (censored) me right the (censored) off. I really have NO complaints other than he should have been like, "I am sorry this IS going to impact your kid's trip."

So I think it's all gonna be fine.

Anna
