I tried e-cigarettes about 5 or 6 years ago, they helped, but didn't do the trick. It was a Janty cig-a-like with RY4 juice. In my opinion it tasted nasty and I had a hard time getting it to work consistently. So I quit and went back to my faithful analogs. Decided it was time to kick this habit again and came here reading up on what was new and boy, a lot has changed in the past few years. Technology has jumped in leaps and bounds on these devices. I read thread after thread, watched YouTube videos, read reviews, suggestions, everything I could find until I was cross eyed and confused. I purchased a Provari and a KFL+ to put on top. I received these a couple of weeks ago, but haven't had a chance to start doing this. This past week went to a local B&M to taste some juices and get the last piece I needed to start vaping. I found one I really liked, Standard G35. I built my very first coil, wicked it with organic cotton and filled it up. My first attempt was bad - leaked everywhere. The frustration I experienced years ago began running through my head again and I was so disappointed. Apparently I didn't retain what I read because I tried filling it from the top. My first mistake. So I emptied it, tore everything out and started over from scratch - figured practice would make perfect. This time I filled my KFL+ from the bottom and used a little less cotton, no leaks! Amazing what happens when you follow directions. I've been vaping on this thing for the past 24 hours. I've still smoked some analogs, have had 5 of them - about a quarter of what I normally smoke (typically a pack a day, sometimes more if it's been a bad day). I'm going to make it with the help of this forum and this new toy I have.

In my first 24 hours vaping again, here are my observations.

1. I'm coughing, a lot more than usual. Not horrible, but more than I would normally. My throat doesn't feel irritated or anything and I'm assuming this is my body's reaction to me not smoking (or not smoking as much). I really hope it's not some reaction to the juice or cotton.

2. I feel good, my device works, works well and I've had no problems out of it (outside of my initial setup error). I love the way it looks and I like just holding it. I really think this is going to work for me. My confidence is growing in my success with it. It was worth the large investment I made. The last time I tried this I failed because of the equipment I bought, it frustrated me which made me want a cigarette. This time I spent the money to get a good setup that would work without problems and it's made the vaping experience much better this go around.

3. While I have had a couple of actual cigarettes, the time between them is getting longer and longer. I'm getting the satisfaction I need from my Provari/KFL+. All day today I have had no strong cravings for an analog, just pick up my device and hit it a couple of times and I'm good. I feel that within a couple of days I won't touch the analogs at all.

4. I went into this thinking I was going to save money after my initial investment. I'm naive I guess. After trying a lot of juices and wanting most of them, I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to spending almost as much money on accessories and juices as I was when I was smoking. However, I'll save money on my health insurance (upcharge for tobacco users) and I'll both feel and smell better, so there are those positives. I don't know how much juice I'm going to use, not enough experience to know how often I'll be refilling. I'm still on my original tank however, so that's encouraging. I thought I might have to fill it a couple of times a day.

5. I'm staying warm with my device. The wife thinks I'm crazy and just rolls her eyes at me and my Provari, but she's the one sitting out back in the freezing cold smoking while I'm in the warm & toasty house vaping away. We don't smoke in the house. We've seen the disgusting mess left behind when we moved out of our last house. It made us both cringe when we took down pictures off of the wall and you could see where they were hanging because of the walls being discolored by smoking. When we moved into our new house, we agreed no smoking inside. I'm tired of shaking in the freezing cold both at home and work to get my nicotine fix.

Congratulations! I have been Vaping since 09/13/2013. 33-year cigarette habit ended 09/14/2013.
I found and understood myself enough that I had to stay away from analogs at all cost. It worked for me, so far. Also I found it difficult for months to replace my nicotine habit accurately. That is what my focus was on for 2 or so months. Up and down?!?! I am now at 1 % nic only. Then I jumped into mod’s and the never ending chase for taste. One step at a time is always best. All my best to you and hang in as it will get better.

Honestly, a huge part of how much you spend vaping purely comes down to self control.

IF you can stop yourself from becoming a compulsive vape shop-a-holic (as we all seem to be...), you're golden LOL.

You did do yourself a HUGE favor that nearly makes it guaranteed you'll eventually save money, you bought a VERY nice set-up right from the get-go.

You don't need to do a ton of experiementing (unless you want to, after-all variety is the spice of life), you will get a high quality realiable vape day-after-day with your setup.

Best of luck!

Much good luck, mraymer!! It'll do the job for you if you want it to!! Hang in there! Are you using nicotine in your eliquid? Probably need to, to quit the cig cravings. But might need to go to 0 to lower your insurance rates - depends on the company.... Keep us informed of your progress!!

I wanted to start with a 6mg nicotine juice, but the guy at the shop talked me into getting 12mg since I was a pack a day smoker. I think I'm more addicted to the act of smoking than I am the nicotine. I'm going to get some 0mg juice to test my theory, see if that works for me of if it really is the nicotine.

Mraymer, I remembered seeing a review about the side effects of e-cigs. Here is the youtube link and you may find it helpful… The Real Negative Side Effects of Vaping -IndoorSmokers - YouTube

Interesting video, could be my juice that's bothering me. It's not bad, but I didn't expect to be coughing with this. The only juice I currently have is the Standard G35, which I believe is a 50/50 mix. I'll look into getting some 100% VG and see if that helps with the coughing. I do find that I'm vaping a lot more than I smoked, simply because I can, don't have to go outside for a fix.
