First day jitters...

Hi Everyone -
This looks like the place for me to be. Anybody got some handy/novel ways to shake the first 3 day withdrawl symptoms?
I smoked any available generic full strength tobacco cig for last 10 years. Smoked about 7-12 cigs a day.
Yesterday was my first day using Blu classic full strength.
So far, so good. Still vaping outside of the home as I want to treat them just like I did a traditional cig and eventually quit altogether.
Can a person use low dosage nicotine patches along with a PSD?
Thanks for any help...

It must be OK to use a patch and an e-cig; as long as you work out how to approach it. I have done so.

7-12 full strength is (guessing) around 2/3 of my 15 hand rolled. I have to say, it was using a mini e-cig that actually led me to the idea of using a patch. I made an appointment with a quit smoking adviser and explained I was using an e-cig. His suggestion was to try using my e-cig as little as possible (he didn't know I had tried them 10 years ago) and wear a patch.

He also said that he thought my choice of e-cig wouldn't give me enough nicotine, and that I would probably NEED extra nicotine.

He was right as well. I dual-used an e-cig and a patch for 2 weeks. Then I bought a better e-cig.

...the same as him... :)

It isn't recommended to use an apv (advanced personal vaporizer) along with another form of nicotine delivery such as a patch or nic gum. An overdose of nicotine can be pretty severe, including side effects like headaches, nausea, elevated heart rate/blood pressure and you just shouldn't risk it.

Good luck quitting, vaping helped me quit after 10 years of smoking although I ate everything in sight for about a month after quitting, bit my nails, and was pretty unpleasant. It was worth it by miles - just stay committed to giving up the smokes and it will pay off huge to you later on.

Hi

Ok, first things first: there are no rules as to how you approach this. Some people can - and do - just pick up a PV and never touch a cigarette again. People like me continued to smoke during my first three months of vaping. Some people fall anywhere in between there. There are a lot of reasons for this.

For some people - like me - quit smoking withdrawal is a real beyotch. Three days? Heh - my first two weeks were hell. A lot easier than any other quit smoking attempt with conventional NRT, but keep in mind that this isn't just about nicotine - your body and brain has a lot of adjusting to go through getting away from all the crap that comes along with burning processed tobacco.

I'm a little leery of this idea of using the patch and a PV and the same time. At least with your PV you can adjust things as needed. If you rely on a patch in the background it becomes a lot harder to sort out what your correct nic level is, if you are actually vaping enough etc. And then when you decide to drop the patch...? You have to go through that sorting out process all over again.

One of the biggest problems with the patch is that lack of flexibility. With a PV you can increase the nic level if you feel like you are falling into cravings rabbit holes, chain vape through a craving fit etc. Then there's that whole sleep disturbance problem some people have with patches, getting a constant stream of nicotine when you don't need it - while sleeping.

And... you can just smoke. There - I said it. This actually works. We all start in the same place - a pack of smokes in one hand, a PV in the other. Things just sort out from there. If you are like most of us, for some odd reason the smoking experience goes gross on your really fast when you start vaping. If that is going to happen for you it usually happens in the first week of vaping. When it does, smoking a cigarette actually turns out to be it's own worst negative reinforcement. You don't have to be afraid of smoking when you switch over to vaping. I had my reasons why I continued to smoke for my first 90 days, but within the first week of vaping I can tell you I sure as hell wasn't enjoying them either. All this time later I still cringe when I think of what those last cigarettes tasted and smelled like.

+1. This worked for me, and for my Significant Other. I did not smoke heavily. She on the other hand rolled up two or three 50 g packs a week. But for both of us it took more like a month or two.

My withdrawal symptoms are just nic cravings. I Grab the vape puff away and craving gone. For me it has come down to choosing to replace the answer to the craving for a cig with the vape. Day 3 today for me and I am super confident that I am done burning tobacco.

I dont know if it has changed in the last couple years but back when I started vaping, BLU was not known as a quality product. Not saying it doesn't work, just that you can do much better with your money. I started with standard ego stuff and quit within 3 days. I was like you at about 10-12 cigs a day. Within 6 months i went from 24mg to 18 to 12. I've been on 12mg ever since. I found starting at a high nic lvl gave me more nic than I was used to and totally killed my cravings for cigs. There was some weird craving for something else in cigs that took about 3 months to fade away though.

I had the luck of finding this forum before I made my first purchase and with my almost OCD way of researching products before I purchase, I was confident with the ego. It has kept me satisfied for almost 4 years now. Only now am I looking at upgrading and only because my setup is becoming a little outdated. Today for the same price you can get an innokin vv v3 that offers a wide range of adjustments to find your sweet spot that allows you to drop cigs for good. But as usual YMMV.

I started with an EVOD starter set not a cig-a-like (blu) so my experience is a little different. After smoking a pack a day for 18 years, camel wide lights, i knew i needed to start kinda high on nic level so i went with 18mg. the combo of the evod and the higher nic liquid worked well for me. Not one analog since the day i got my vape and started using it. I think a lot of people try to start off with a liquid that is too low in nicotine right off the bat. Which leads to the cravings. 18mg worked well for me to start and in less than 3 months im down to 12mg. hopefully by the end of the year ill be down to 0mg.

I never thought i would stop smoking as i actually enjoyed smoking. I had never attempted to quit but my kids convinced me to give it a try. I was completely sceptical about it working. But from the first day with no real cravings when using the evod i just knew i had smoked my last analog.

Best of luck to u on your journey to leave the nastys in the past.

Good comment. I know the O.P. doesn't smoke a lot, but I tried and tried on an 808D-1 to quit (from 10-15 hand rolled with filters) using 24mg e-liquid. It didn't work. The cravings I got were acute and demoralising.

There should be enough nicotine in a Blu (for the O.P.) but it's going to require some serious puffing.... 10 puffs on a Blu is unlikely to help all buy the lightest of smokers, and not full strength either.

Let's be clear on one point; Nicotine is not the evil chemical that big voices would like us to believe. It IS a vasoconstritor and can contribute to high blood pressure. It IS addictive. It is also known for beneficial properties such as mood enhancement, mental alertness and increased metabolism.

I understand you want to quit smoking. Congratulations! An e-cig or personal vaporizer is, by all accounts, a healthier altenative. It will mimic the physical action and sensation of smkoing and provide the nicotine that your body is addicted to. There are other chemicals in burning tobacco that increase your addiction to them. Nicotine is not the only one. With an e-cig, you're only receiving nicotine, so you may feel edgy due to your body's withdrawal from the lesser, but present, addictive chemicals in cigarettes.

I smoked less and less through the first 3 weeks of using an eGo, until I finally walked around for a full week with an open pack of stinkies in my pocket without touching one.

I would advise against using the patch in conjuction with your Blu. Nicotine OD feels like crap. Instead, vape your brains out if necessary. Smoke a stinkie if necessary. Quitting is not black and white. It is a process. With an e-cig, you'll be delighted to find that, with determination and using the e-cig frequently, that next "must have" stinkie earns the name stinkie. They stink. They're gross. Too bad most all of us overlooked that point when we picked them up to begin with.

Good luck in your progress, and don't get too worked up in the beginning. It's a process to get off cigarettes/burning tobacco. Millions have done it. A lot of us are here to help if you need it. Keep at it. Be prepared to upgrade to a more reliable e-cig or Advanced Personal Vaporized (APV or Mods).

One thing I found is that I could not follow my standard routine of going outside for a smoke. I never knew how long I should be out there. Stay out for the 5 minutes it takes to kill a burnie and you don't feel like you get enough (has to do with absorption rates). Stay out longer and it feels like you're wasting time. When I did the outside thing, I'd either be going out every 15 minutes or I'd go and have a burnie 5-15 minutes after going out with the e-cig. I also realized that by maintaining the practice of going outside, I was maintaining an additional smoking habit which made me anticipate that next smoke. I was able to lean on the vape more when I finally decided to do it indoors.

I don't know what mg nic you are using but if you are still having cravings for nic, maybe the patch will help too. I feel like the worst part is probably over for you if you truly have your mind made up to vape full time. I quickly moved from the cigalikes to the ego style battery and was amazed at the difference it made in my desire to vape. Good luck to you and thank you for posting. I'm sure this has helped others too.

I'm actually impressed that Blu is working for you. I was a pack a day smoker until recently. Alot of my friends are into vaping pretty heavily, and they have recently gotten me hooked. I first started off with Blu, and I could never get rid of that stomachy, "I need a cig" feeling. I recently bought an Itaste vv, with a T3S Tank. I did alot of research before my friends even chimed in and threw in their 2cents about it all. I learned about coils, and to make sure I got a unit which I could adjust the watts / voltage on. I refreshed myself up on ohms law just for that fact. My friend took me to a local shop, and the owner was a real gem. She showed me all the different models, let me try out a bunch of things, canisters, mods, flavors etc etc. (Sorry if my lingo isnt up the snuff im still a newbie myself). She was rather impressed with what I knew though. I did spend alot of time researching this. So I went into it, knowing what the strength of coils would do, and how to fill a tank, and what tanks were better, and what mods were good for what thing. There is literally an unlimited amout of knowledge to learn about vaping, but it really all comes down to preference. I work in an EMS field, so I wanted something I could conceal if need be. Something which also didnt weight 10lbs, and didnt bust a lung out when trying to vape on it.

Sorry for the rant here, I guess all n all, my advice, as I was a fellow Blu e-cig smoker, is to get rid of that ecig as I have and never look back. For me to get 2 canisters, 3 e-liquid 15ml bottles, several replacement coils, and the mod, it costed me around 80$. And I will be set on everything for probably 2 months give or take. Then all i need to do is buy liquid, and coils (you can dry burn and clean them out yourself to make them last alot longer, but its alot of work "for me at least" and not easy for everyone to do, especially just starting out).

My advice, if you have a local vape shop, go in and talk to the vapers in there. Because not only do they carry a wealth of knowledge, but the things they will have you vape on taste a WHOLE lot better (then Blu), but it will actually if you want it to, get you to quit the nicotine all together. I started off with 18mg, and im down to 6mg, as I enjoy vaping all day.

Again, sorry for the long post, and rant I guess, but just offering up some advice from one newbie to another.

Sounds like at the same stage here... Day 4 now.
I, on the other hand, can't yet say I am super confident about this, but so far so good...

Just enjoy it! Bring it in the house if you have to! Pick a room away from everyone, and enjoy the fact that you don't have to worry about stinking the house up, or burning the house down. You may have to vape a little more to get satisfaction, but you are vaping, not smoking. Just remember that. Driving and vaping are great! You don't take your eyes off the road to light up, and you don't have to worry about flicking ashes.

I didn't try to quit smoking.. I just added vaping.
I reached for a smoke when I didn't think about it, but reached for a vape when I did.
It took about a week before I reached for the vape first and forgot about the smokes.
I started at 24mg and dropped to 18 a month later.. stayed with that.
I was a 40 year 2 pack a day menthol guy.

The last pack I didn't smoke is still laying on the shelf by my desk.

New guy here and in a similar situation as the OP. Smoked a pack or more a day for 20 plus years. Started with the V2 cigalike 18 mg. Not bad but I was just smoking that too! Broke down 2 1/2 weeks ago and got a crappy blister pack kit and a bottle of 18 mg tobacco flavored juice. Better but.... New 900 mah vv battery, way better but... Vapebash 3 1100 mah vv battery, Mini protank, some really nice juice! In all that time I've smoked 3 total packs of Winston's. I think I'm just about done. I beat myself up over those 3 packs so it's nice to see others have had similar issues and still kicked the stinkies. Glad I'm here!
