Congrats on your PV purchase, and welcome to ECF! Don't worry about not knowing all the ins and outs... I certainly don't. That said, noobs are welcomed here, and there's a ton of information to digest. Sometimes, too much information!
I started about a month and a half ago. My first post was "what do I buy?". The recommendations were plenty, and after my first experience with an 808-type device (first generation e-ciggies) two years ago, I knew what I didn't want. The ECF members were extremely helpful, and pointed me to the eGo, 510's, mods. I went to a local brick-and-mortar and got hooked up with an eGo-T. The difference from two years back was night and day.
Since, I've evolved a bit. Anxious to know about the cartos, juice and accessories, I went on a bit of a buying binge. I've got the eGo batteries lined up, but have moved away from the cone and tank to 510 cartos and the eGo Mega Dual Coil cartos.
So, to answer some of your questions:
1. I would recommend either the eGo, eGo-T, or 510 as good starter models. The batteries will stay charged about a day, and the vapor and throat hit are pretty good. Much better than the e-ciggy starter models, or single-use models. Of course, I haven't played with the 808 types, and there are ECF folks that swear by them, so I wouldn't say that you're making a mistake if you went with the Smoke Safe sale.
2. Juices - your mileage may vary. What is my all-day vape could be your dirty ashtray taste. Vendors are plentiful, with as many flavors as you could think of. Some prefer tobacco flavors, while others prefer fruit or food. I found that many of the vendors will have sales of their sample (or smaller packs) of juices. It's easy to try a variety of flavors to see what works best for you. The best part is that you don't have to commit to a large amount of an unknown juice.
Some juices you'll like... other's you'll put away. ECF has a "pay it forward" section, where you can offer your juices to someone else for free. Likewise, you can receive other's offers, which can give you the opportunity to try different flavors without socking your wallet.
The PG/VG ratio is a matter of personal preference, although in some cases, it can be varied, due to the vaper's sensitivity to either. Some will quote ratios (80/20, 75/25) to balance the vapor quantity with the throat hit. VG usually relates to vapor, while PG relates to throat hit. I've used from 65/35, to 80/20, and cannot tell the difference... but again, I'm new to this.
3. Atomizers, or more specifically, cartomizers (cartridge and atomizer in one) come in a plethora of ranges. My eGo battery has threads for the tank-style cartos (using the outer threads) and some for the 510 cartos (inside threads). Both work equally well.
This is where my noobness comes in. The cartos that I know of are regular resistance, low resistance, and dual coil. If you go to gotvapes.com (one of the ECF suppliers), you'll see tons of cartos - CE2, dripomizers, turbine systems. I have no idea what these all are... although I'm sure I'll get around to experimenting some day.
Regular resistance cartos will generate moderate vapor and throat hit. The vapor temperature is normal (not hot or cold).
Low resistance cartos will generate a hotter vapor, and tend to enhance the throat hit. These use batteries a little quicker.
The dual coil cartos have two heating coils in the assembly, and typically generate more vapor. The eGo Mega Dual Coil carto I use is also LR, which runs through the juice and battery a little quicker. However, I tend to keep four batteries fully charged, should I go on a chain-vape. I've never used more than two, but in the world of vaping, it's always good to have backups.
So, as a fellow noob, may I suggest that you look at this as the start of a journey... to find the right device, juice, and cartos that hit the spot. I'm still looking for mine, but have settled on a few good juices, carto types, and batteries. If you find something that you like, order more for backup. The first month for me was a frenzy to get my hands on everything. After you find something that you like, you will likely scale down a bit, and enjoy the vape.
