first foray into RTA

hey all.
67 days in. really liking my new smok alien (as detailed elsewhere on here). generally i like to tinker with things. this has led me to RTAs (well, that and spending less on coils after the initial setup costs are taken care of!).
so far have looked at clapton wire and cotton bacon along with a winder. the most difficult thing is actually choosing the tank...amazon (uk) have a few that seem like they'd fit the bill. rather looking forward to this.

What tank and coil are you using now? Do you want a similar experience or something different? MTL or DL? That stuff would be really helpful in guiding you to some RTAs to look at.

switching between a melo III and the baby beast. just using the standard coils from the respective manufacturers (.5ohm).
went ahead and bought the avocado 24! (impulsive fool that i am)

Vaping terminology is notoriously weird. Mostly due to history. Mods are called mods because because back in the day they weren't for sale and people would modify radio shack project boxes with ego parts.

I hope your foray into coil building goes well

I love the Avocado 24. One of my favorite tanks that is in my daily rotation.

there have been additional gettings. some cotton bacon, a 521 mini tab, a coil winding jig and a reel of clapton kanthal 26AWG.
ready to wick n roll.
will go with just a single coil first i think.

I'd recommend the Exo RTA from Ijoy, the Pharaoh RTA from Digiflavor or the OBS Engine Nano for singlecoil builds.
Although with 26 Kanthal Clapton you'll be on the higher end of ohms, especially in singlecoil. But the Exo comes with both dual and singlecoil decks and for the Pharaoh are several other decks available as a seperate purchase.

realising that the ohms might be a bit high with that gauge and a single coil...more research is being done.

You still need a screw drivers and tweezers, ceramic tip..

I also like needle nose curved tweezers as well. Great for fluffing cotton, getting well placed in juice holes and whatnot. One of those few dollar, use all the time, purchases.

got a few different shaped pairs of the ceramic nature...use them for soldering/electronics stuff. rather looking forward to this.

I prefer dual coils in the Avocado. Single coil setups with the adapter tend to have a more turbulent airflow for me.

I hope you have fun with it, Lupinehorror. I rather impusively did a first build on a ridiculously complicated, tiny deck, and I learned A LOT. It did require an afternoon of fiddling, the help of the husband and this forum, but the main thing was, my next build I did *all by myself* LOL. It was way, way easier in some ways I was glad I jumped in impulsively with what I had to hand (was waiting for a single deck RTA) as I made every possible mistake (so it seemed) though seems to me you are far more prepared than I was (at least mentally, I had a coil builders kit, so all the necessary tools were to hand, it was just... not really a skillset I had any real handle on). It was fun, however! I hope you enjoy your purchase!

Hahaha.. the first build I ever did I put it all back together and filled the tank with juice only to have it dump every drop of juice back out in seconds flat.. haha.

I did that SO many times (with more than one rta) before I finally figured it all out. I went through a LOT of juice before I figured out the secrets of wicking!

But I didn't have much help.. certainly none from my husband, although I'm fairly certain he may have laughed at me a time or two as I was wanting to throw things and declaring I was never going to learn what others thought was so darn easy!

Funny thing is, NOW it's just so darn easy! Hahaha..

That's life! Live and learn! I do think this kind of stuff is easier for men though, they spend their lives fixing stuff. They seem to take to mechanical stuff well.
