I created an Excel file to analyze my costs for the first month of vaping. After factoring in money saved on cigarettes, I still spent more than $6 per day. I expect the costs will decline, now that I figured out what works for me.

Excellent chart, but I am not making one!!! It would look worse than that!!!

I am so in line with this statement. I cant stop buying new stuff. Cartos tanks drip tips mod here, mod there, Trade this buy that. I started vaping 1.5 months ago and already I own 5 Mods, I have a 6th on the way and more juice than I could possibly use in the next six months and still more juice on order.

I have justified this through trial and error and I am finding what I like, what I dont and what I absolutely hate.

All in all I am satisified with everything I have bought singce my lava tube at the start of no analogs. This is as much a hobby as it is a necessity.

My spreadsheet would give you a heart attack. Once I determined how much we had spent in such a short period of time, I think I had a panic attack. To counter, I added some calculations to determine how long our supply should last us, and where we would be at the end of that (4-4.5 month supply) on cost....felt much, much better!

Great idea on creating a spreadsheet. I had to go over and over with my girlfriend on the possibility of saving money with buynig an e-cig. I started with the basic run down of how many analog pack we buy in a month and stated that the first month will have an increase but will not be there since we will have the main unit.

My goal is both health related and also trying to save money. When you got expenses like having a child, house, and car payment...you got to be smart. I want to live as long as I can and smoking analog was not the way to go. Hopefully with this purchase it will end up saving money so we can make extra payments on some of the other things in life.

I agree that making your own liquids will be one of the largest money savers. I plan on buying a few premixed flavors so I can get an understanding of what it should taste like and then experiment from there. I'm sure there is a few good websites with recipes and DIY guides on making your own liquids. Just be sure to make your favs in bulk.

To the OP:
Excellent job with the spreadsheet. I'm willing to bet some of those costs will go away, once you determine what hardware really works for you (I like it to those people who first get into computers--they want to build the biggest and best, but after a while, all the excitement with the hardware goes away, and they settle for what works best for them). I would think the last biggest outlay you'd have would be juices; even then, I bet most vapers probably settle on a particular vendor, with the occassional purchase from someone else.

Great job!

Hello Everyone. I seem to be in the same boat as many with the costs vs. savings.

One twist is that I have yet to vape, haha.

Let me explain: I live in Canada and my first order was from the US, not realizing the customs hassle it would be (Still there and prob going back to the company due to the carto's having nic).

After waiting for this first order I started researching OCD hard on vaping... so now I have 2 diff Canadian suppliers sending various parts: Attys, Carts, vv Box mod, decent starter 510 kit, fill tools, bottles, drip tips, and at least 80 ml of various juice.

so... Hope I like vaping!

That spreadsheet will start looking better and better as the days go by, IF you stop buying new stuff, lol! In the beginning, I think you are more likely to buy more stuff until you find what you like the best. Then, you can always buy your fave liquid in large bottles or, even make your own. You could always sell off or trade what you don't really like. In the long run, you will definitely be saving money and your health! GL!

Right now, I'm on the "spent more than I did smoking" bandwagon too -- but I firmly believe that it gets better from here. I've slowed down my initial outlay of purchases, and at present, my largest expenditures are on finding something that can last as an all-day vape for me for an extended period of time. If that keeps up as it is, I'll probably start tinkering with DIY sooner rather than later. :)

But I look at it as a long-term investment into extended health and life, and if it helps me not to have hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical expenses in the future, I've already saved a ton!

I calculate that I've spent $395.69 on vaping (kit, juice, clearos, shipping) in 79 days. That works out to $5.009/day. Remember, I haven't spent $4/day on smokes... so my current cost to vape is $1.009 more than smoking. I need to go ~20 days without buying anything to hit the break even point again.
BUT, I don't have smoker's cough, lung oysters in the morning, wheezing, AND I can be more active without getting out of breath. Bonus Bay-Bee!!

p.s. I forgot to add the return of my sense of smell & taste. :D

Look at my sig! I have no idea how the banner calculates the "break even", I doubt it's accurate. I spent a LOT of money it seems. The amount is exact: $930 - but it includes a V2 kit I since no longer use, the KGO kit, the ProVari, a boatload of cartomizers, about ten dripping atomizers including an HH.357, some failed experiments with clearos, tons of juice and DIY supplies which, if I ever get the hang of it, could last me about a year from now....

I really don't care though: getting off burned tobacco - priceless; a new and really enjoyable hobby - priceless. So?!!!
