First Rba and not impressed!

Just bought a Chobra from the classifieds that was already set up with 500 steel mesh and 34 awg kanthal wire and Im getting a horrible burnt taste when I run it at the same voltage as my carto tanks. They both check out at the same ohms. Is this normal?

Ive tried adjusting the coils with a needle and went in and cut the mesh in half and re-wrapped it, it was rolled so tight it was almost one solid mass and it seemed to help.Im also running my Provari at lower voltage but Im not getting the vapor I'm used to any more.

Do I have other options for wicking material with this type of rba and are there different gauges of kanthal that burn cooler?

Any hep at all would be appreciated.

Running at 2.0 ohms voltage was at 4volts...tried bumping it down in .01 volts increments but no luck

Watch some YouTube videos on Genesis Attys, making mesh wicks and coils would be my first suggestion, read some threads here on ECF,,, it's not the Chobra it's the person making the wick/coil , watch, read, learn, you'll get there

Are the coil & wick 'new' or used? If they were both new when you got it, did you test fire the atty with no juice to burn off the coil?

Since you've got juice in it now, it may take a half-tank or more to get the flavor "right". I've had some Chobras that once set up vaped just fine, others needed a bit of time to "season" the wick/coil.

I just switched out juices and tbh I think it was my all day vape. My go-to juice has been Hype from AVE for awhile now and it has a really high VG content in it.

When I changed over to Gummy Bear from Juicy Vapor the burnt taste went away, maybe since its higher in pg it wicked better.

yeah, i tried every range I could get out of my Provari....I just dont think that juice likes stainless mesh.

stayed pretty strong throughout the whole tank of Hype...not tasting it at all with the Gummy Bear unless I really crank the voltage up.

Could be a hotspot on the coil wrap. With the cap off and wick primed with juice press the fire button a few seconds at a time. See if any one spot of your coil wrap starts glowing. If you see a spot then you found your hotspot causing the burnt taste.

Also forgot to ask. How many coil wraps are you at?

4 wraps...I did notice the top of the coils getting hotter first with high VG juice....two questions: do certain gauges of Kanthal burn cooler? and which mesh count works better for high vg juices?

you need a bit of the wick sitting above the top wrap of the coil to act as a juice reservoir 4 or 5 mm should do it
Thats about 3/16 of an inch I think
