Hello Forum.

I made my first DIY batch of Menthol e-liquid yesterday. I wasn't really pleased with the result and I would like some input. The problems are the throat hit, which I would described as "being kicked in the throat by a mule" and a frequent, but not without exception, "burnt" sensation :(. I am using the Aspire Nautlius tank (1.6 ohms) on a Smoktech Magneto mechanical mod. Here is my recipe:

PG/VG (50/50) 18 mg nicotine base: 10.00ml (66.67%)
PG/VG (50/50) without nicotine: 3.35ml (22.33%)
Menthol Concentrate (66%): 0.45ml (3%)
Koolada: 1.05ml (7%)
Sweetener: 0.15ml (1%)

I did not let this steep. I simply put it in the tank and started vaping. I am hoping this will mellow after a week or so. Maybe there is a simple fix. Did I go overboard with the Koolada? Is there anything I can add to reduce the TH? Is it just a matter of time before this begins to mellow?

Thanks in advance for your input.

I have heard that going over 3% with Koolada can reduce smoothness, but this is entirely subjective. I absolutely love this recipe:

75%PG 25%VG 15mg/ml nic

3% TFA Wintergreen OR Peppermint
2% Menthol
10% Koolada

-The inhale is SO cold! It is right there with Halo Sub-Zero as far as intensity but overall, slightly less sweet which is a good thing IMO.
To me, the TH is not overwhelming at all, even with a sub-ohm dripper setup. It reminds me of when you chew a wintergreen Life Savers or even an Altoids. Hardcore to say the least. ;)

I think I'd try to cut the Koolada and start the menthol at 1%--then ramp it up from there to match for your taste.

I personally use menthol at 5%, but I really, really like my menthol (and my concentrate is home-made and not so concentrated). I do manage to go through almost a pound of menthol crystals a year, which has to be some kind of record around here.

Thank you so much for posting your recipe. Sounds like something I would enjoy and I can't believe I have all the stuff to make it. Hugs2u

I thought I loved menthol . . . until I read this.

Thanks to everyone for the input. I think I will set this bottle aside until I figure out how to dilute it and start over on another batch tonight.
Cheers.

I just tried to mentally calculate how much overall liquid you'd have use to go through a pound of menthol crystals in a year at 5% and then my head exploded.

Congrats though. That's dedication.
