This past weekend I went to a music festival. Five days in a tent, one of them rainy. It's the first time I took my e-cigs camping and I have to say it worked out beautifully!
We were originally going to take our whole tackle box with us, with all our blanks and juices, but decided to make a "smaller version of our stuff" in an old wooden cigar box. Took two wall chargers (electricity was available), a handful of batts, one pack of blanks, and five bottles of juice in a ziploc bag. Kept everything small and compact, but still had enough to get us through the whole festival.
Got a lot of odd looks and I felt as though we were answering e-cig questions all weekend. I think we may have intrigued a bunch of people - probably eight or ten people seemed interested enough to go home and order their own, and lots more who will be googling "e-cig" later today.
By day three, I wasn't hitting my e-cig for hours at a time. This is probably due to the fact that there was so much interesting stuff going on that captured my attention, but it was really startling to me when I realized friday night that my e-cig was stashed in my bag - and had been for five hours. It gives me some hope that eventually I will be able to drop the e-cigs entirely!
The most surprising thing I noticed was that I was constantly tempted by smoking. At an outdoor festival (this particular festival, anyway), you can smoke anywhere, anytime. And people were doing lots of smoking. It wasn't an overbearing urge, but more like a thought I had to keep putting out of my head when I saw other people doing it. I haven't really had any urges like that since my first week of vaping back in February.
BONUS OBSERVATION: Smoking really HAS been marginalized in our society. We don't see it going on in quantity anymore. But man, it's amazing how many people smoke when you put a thousand of them together in the outdoors for days on end!
I did smoke a cigarette on Saturday. It was a clove given to me by a friend, and it was a deliberate thing. I just wanted to see how it was. The smoke itself didn't bother me as much as I thought it would but it just felt WEIRD. I felt tied up for the ten minutes it took me to smoke it, and then when it got to the bottom, I found myself overthinking the question, "How far down should I smoke it before putting it out?" I felt ridiculously like a newbie during the whole process. And having to be conscious of where that lit tip was felt like a real inconvenience as well. I went back to my vanilla hazlenut cart with no issues whatsoever.
All in all, a real success. When I started vaping, I knew spring festival was going to be the true test, and I feel I passed with flying colors! I just wanted to share the experience with everyone and let you all know - it works! vaping is definitely camping friendly.
