This past weekend I went to a music festival. Five days in a tent, one of them rainy. It's the first time I took my e-cigs camping and I have to say it worked out beautifully!

We were originally going to take our whole tackle box with us, with all our blanks and juices, but decided to make a "smaller version of our stuff" in an old wooden cigar box. Took two wall chargers (electricity was available), a handful of batts, one pack of blanks, and five bottles of juice in a ziploc bag. Kept everything small and compact, but still had enough to get us through the whole festival.

Got a lot of odd looks and I felt as though we were answering e-cig questions all weekend. I think we may have intrigued a bunch of people - probably eight or ten people seemed interested enough to go home and order their own, and lots more who will be googling "e-cig" later today.

By day three, I wasn't hitting my e-cig for hours at a time. This is probably due to the fact that there was so much interesting stuff going on that captured my attention, but it was really startling to me when I realized friday night that my e-cig was stashed in my bag - and had been for five hours. It gives me some hope that eventually I will be able to drop the e-cigs entirely!

The most surprising thing I noticed was that I was constantly tempted by smoking. At an outdoor festival (this particular festival, anyway), you can smoke anywhere, anytime. And people were doing lots of smoking. It wasn't an overbearing urge, but more like a thought I had to keep putting out of my head when I saw other people doing it. I haven't really had any urges like that since my first week of vaping back in February.

BONUS OBSERVATION: Smoking really HAS been marginalized in our society. We don't see it going on in quantity anymore. But man, it's amazing how many people smoke when you put a thousand of them together in the outdoors for days on end!

I did smoke a cigarette on Saturday. It was a clove given to me by a friend, and it was a deliberate thing. I just wanted to see how it was. The smoke itself didn't bother me as much as I thought it would but it just felt WEIRD. I felt tied up for the ten minutes it took me to smoke it, and then when it got to the bottom, I found myself overthinking the question, "How far down should I smoke it before putting it out?" I felt ridiculously like a newbie during the whole process. And having to be conscious of where that lit tip was felt like a real inconvenience as well. I went back to my vanilla hazlenut cart with no issues whatsoever.

All in all, a real success. When I started vaping, I knew spring festival was going to be the true test, and I feel I passed with flying colors! I just wanted to share the experience with everyone and let you all know - it works! vaping is definitely camping friendly.

I was just wondering about this very subject last night. :D Glad to hear it worked out for you. Planning a 5+ day excursion myself here soon and while electricity will be available some of the time, I was considering just packing 10 fully charged 14500s, my spare box mod, a pack of 510 cartos and a couple bottles of juice. Now thinking about it though... I may wanna pack the charger... just in case... Anyway, excellent post and info. Congrats on the successful trip and the possible converts! Happy Vaping! :vapor:

Excellent report, glad to hear it worked out so well. And yeah, I think there are a lot of closet smokers out there.

A lot of social smokers too - people who don't normally smoke but when they go on a party binge like a music festival they throw diets, not smoking, not drinking, and other health conscious attitudes to the wind for a week.

It's called a TEMPORARY AUTONOMOUS ZONE. Every culture in the world has places and times were people are free to shed at least some of their inhibitions and stress. As thinking people we need this, otherwise we will pop a fuse.:ohmy::ohmy:

We didn't have to pull out the charger until day four - Between me and the guy we had eight batts in rotation, so I think we did pretty good. If you're not a power vaper like my other half is, you might be able to do without the charger... but better safe than sorry, I like to say.

We had this one guy walk up to our campfire wearing a tie-dyed thong with bells, a pair of sneakers, and nothing else. I guess people were shedding inhibitions left and right! He must have found his inhibitions later because he left and came back, having added chaps to his ensemble. I'd add a smiley here but there isn't one that adequately portrays exactly how hard we laughed over that one.

Yep, it was a very, VERY fun trip.

I am terrible about going out without enough power. I quit the day I got my e-cig and I really don't want to even take one drag off of a cig. When I go camping it's usually to find a lake or a hunting spot that is way off the grid.

I have actually had nightmares were all my batteries or atties died and I find myself with a cig in my hand.

I pull the boy scout motto always be prepared. But think about it, is it really much different than when we smoked? We always made sure we had enough packs to get us through and plenty of lighters. Sometimes it still breaks down. I was camping with about ten or so of my best friends we all ran out a day early. I don't think we counted on half of the "non smokers" to bum half of our smokes. Yep, we hiked out a day early, without the nic we started to get on each others nerves!!!

Yeah - I saw my fair share of people who were carpooling back to town on Saturday on a cigarette run. When we smoked, we did rollies - imagine how much time it took us to roll two cartons of cigarettes by hand! But we always did it! The vape accessories were SOOO much easier to deal with!

One other nice thing I noticed - my lungs didn't feel dried out and petrified by the time we packed up. This is the first festival I've ever come home from where I didn't have "Monday Wheeze" from smoking so much all weekend. Quite a significant perk.

Did he hug you?? I always love getting a hug from a big smelly guy in a thong.

I followed the Dead around for a summer and boy oh boy, even naked chicks lost their charm after a while, deodorant is your friend!!! A razor doesn't hurt either.

One time a cop came flying through the camp and this lady came out and shouted "Slow down, slow down, naked stoners and little children". No she didn't have a stitch of clothing on and no it wasn't pretty.

It's actually kind of cool, it stopped me from thinking of naked people in a sexual way.

Very cool, though my days of music festivals are over I think. Last good one I did was Sasquatch at the Gorge in Washington.

I've done 3 overnight camping trips with e-cigs so far this season. I'm finding the eGo works great in the outdoors. Long battery life, and the cone insulates the atty a bit so the cold air doesn't rob it of warmth so much. And on a misty morning you're exhaling huge huge clouds of vapour!

I recharge mine with this. Awesome little device and will also power a 5v passthrough:

I hear ya, Brad!

The festival actually had some "official" types come through, to do a visual head count estimate to make sure there were enough porta-potties. In order to keep everything on the up-and-up when the inspectors arrived, they made a code for people to listen for - they made an announcement on the PA system - "We are now serving MEAT at the kitchen!" (They actually run a vegan kitchen)

OMG I've never seen so many vegans running toward the kitchen at once in my life!

Thankfully I did not have to hug Banana Hammock Man. My guy did tuck a dollar in his thong strap, though.

I went to Florida with one battery, a charger, and 6 sample sized juice bottles. Had to carry my charger with me and every chance I got I would plug it in. Saw an outlet on the wall next to our table, so there I sat with my e-cig charging on Jimmy Buffet's dime. (We were at his Margaritaville Resturante.) I did fine until we jumped in the car to head home. The battery died. I had 3 leftover Camels I had brought just in case. That held me over until I could get home and get charged.

Wednesday I'm heading to a hang gliding comp in Chebanse Il until Monday. I have 2 more batteries, a wall charger, a PCC, and plenty of juice. Just hope I don't lose something important! I'll be tenting it, but I hope they have a spare outlet I can keep things charged.
