I have three criteria:

1) The draw starts getting hard.

2) The flavor starts tasting funky and/or I'm not getting as much vapor.

3) It stops firing (#1 or #2 usually happens first unless it's a bad carto in the first place.)

Awesome! Thanks man
#1 can be fixed with a needle through the bottom of the coil. At least that works for me

Yeah pretty much.. Also when I first vaped it got a little juice in the mouth. Spattering type of thing is the best way to put it...Or spitting like you said haha

If you've been using it for awhile and it starts spitting or sort of popping (which is different from happy crackles), it's not wicking properly and on the way out. If you pull off the tip and look down into it, it will likely have a dark ring around the coil spreading outward.

When members talk about flooding, it's usually in reference to over-saturating the filler when priming the carto or during refilling. In that case, when you try to vape it there is too much juice to be vaporized and you're going to get a mouthful of juice and/or leaking out the bottom - both of which can be remedied. Spitting, on the other hand, isn't good. You can continue to use the carto for awhile if it's not driving you up the wall. Sometimes playing around with power level can squeeze out a little more life, but if you have a lot of liquid in the tank you run the risk of the remaining juice getting a weird taste.

My blog probably won't tell you anything you don't already know, but it has pictures of what a flooded carto looks like:

The Ocelot Method of Carto Filling (aka The Upside-Down Condom)

If you have juice in the tank and don't want to pour it out to put in a new carto, click on the link in my signature. It goes to a short video about how to do a "Hot Swap."

Its not too too bad now.. And to be its no big deal to stick my syringe in there to suck out the juice and replace a carto. Last night I actually switched my orings to white ones to match my white Provari, WOW were those a tight fit. The replacement ones just dont look quite the same as the ones that already come on the caps.

I've had cartos flood/leak due to extreme temp. changes. What I did was flip the tank upside down so that the juice wasn't covering the holes inside the carto tank. Then blow through the drip tip into a paper towel. Sometimes this works for flooding due to a dying carto too, but it's doesn't help for long.

When they are in stock....and when the website gets back online....the Ikenvape 510 Fusion has a flange. Single coil 3.0 ohm and a low resistance model (I don't use those), punched with two laser-drilled holes. Really an excellent carto with very good flavor and which last longer than Smoktech cartos. And that's if you can get them.

The owner commissions a China manufacturer to build his cartomizers to his specific specifications. Better quality heating coils and better polyfill fiber. Even the steel tubes look higher quality. The ones I've used have been very consistant; maybe one dud in over 50 some cartos used. Anyway, the manufacturer limits the number of cartos he can receive, so the supply/demand thing is pretty messed up. When in stock, the supply generally dries up within 24 - 48 hours. He uses an email alert system for loyal customers to get first choice. I use both the 510 Fusion and Platinum series in my tanks. I use Smoktech single coil 3.0 ohm as my backup cartos.

On Baditudes suggestion to me a couple months ago, I ordered me some Ikenvapes and some Smoks to compare. I actualy ordered the ones with flanges but that was before I knew how superior the IBTanks were compared to many others (The seals are hell-asious) ..In other words, you dont need the flages with an IBTank. (Newbs liike me dont know better)....

Anyway, I got some Ikenvape and some Smoks....in XL and regular...and in 2.0 and 3.0. They are all good to me. The 2.0's from Ikenvape I have to vape at 3.2 to 3.3 for the first week. I may ramp the volts up a bit as time goes on due to the Ohm resistance getting higher with use.

I cant tell yet which one is better, but I havent had a dud in either yet. I do know the build in the Ikenvape is pretty impressive...I have taken one apart just for fun..

Ive had zero flooding so far. I also keep three tanks loaded with different juice. I plan on getting more IBTanks or maybe a Phiniac for fun..

I will say that My vaping is so much more care free and enjoyable since Ive gone to a Provari and the IBTanks and Ikenvape and Smok cartos..... so much that I dont order anything new anymore.... Im just so satisfied

So I guess DIY is next for me.

Hot swapping is pretty cool.....and easy. Ive seen that blog of yours (thanks Krazy Kat..) and Baditudes instructions on threads as well. after I hot swap, I put my naked carto back on my Provari and "vape it out" then trash it.

OCD has also suggested if you have flooded it during refilling to pull the carto partially out of the tank (passed the hole) and let it air dry for awhile.

Ocelot, that would take patience. I have very little of that :)

Lol! I said he suggested it, not that I've tried it.

I'm having the hardest time figuring out whether my Boges are suspect, or I'm just an idiot.

I hate the flangeless Boges; I tried to pull a drip tip off and pulled the @(*%#^ carto right through a full DCT. I definitely prefer my IBTanked to the DCT. My DCT pulls apart as well; it just feels cheap. So, not being thrilled with the Boges, I just ordered a dozen each Ikenvape 2.0 and 3.0 XLs, and one of their cheap tanks for comparison. Life's too short to spend it cleaning up leaks in a Provari.
