So glad to hear!!
It's hard to go wrong with FA.
Many of their flavors are the best and most (all??) are DAAP-free.

Yup. That's why I chose them. I also found a very old thread dedicated to FA (HIC's thread, to be exact) and I fell in love with his descriptions of the flavors.
Do you have an rda?
Makes testing/tasting flavors/mixes way easie

I think I have some old Joyetech atties somewhere...

I enjoy FW ButterP as well. If you want to try something a lot of my friends find nice, try butterP 3, Kahlua 3 an 6% French V all FW.

I hate vomit as well. It may be in Cheese GCC but I can't taste it like I do in a lot of the "reformulated" mixes.

TFA BB wild and FA billberry are great together. More realistic BB. TFA SB ripe and Cap sweet SB together
What ratios do you mix these?
I use more % for the Wild 'cause it's my favorite and I want it the main profile, but it's kind of a weak flavor
- the Extra is for some 'oomph'
I haven't tried the CAP sweet SB - will get some - thanks!
Any other favorite flavors you'd recommend?

Kahlua - I like the drink - never tried it as a vape.
Sounds excellent - will do!

Hehe! So good to see you! My favorite cap'n. ;)

Your thread caught my eye because I'm seriously considering DIY--after all those years! I ordered a bunch of flavors from BCF, mostly FA, and can't wait to start mixing. Lord help me. I'm starting with FA Cucumber and Black Pepper!
google HIC's Black Pepper Ice Cream :)

I like wild at 7.5 and billberry at .15-.2 depending on recipe, .15 lemon will help the BB pop in certain recipes. TFA SB ripe at 3 and Cap sweet SB at 4. I dont get near either SB with EM (cotton candy). There already loaded with maltol. Just bases. You can tweak them a bit depending on recipe.
Dragonfruit, marshmallow, meringue, whipped cream, FA caramel, almond and TFA vanilla bean ice cream. Not sure if anybody makes one DAAP free.

DIY (IMO) is far above buying vendor juices. Even just a unflavored nic base is a satisfying vape. Start with a large (500ml or so) unflavored nic base mix and use your flavors to create small 5 and 10 ml samples to vape. Once you find the ones you like, put them on your "good" list and continue on. Eventually you'll weed out the ones you don't like and develop a list of things you really like.

Oh, I agree. I've been vaping mostly unflavored (or diluted premade ejuices) for a long time. Now I'm just looking for a few go-to flavorings to add to my unflavored just for variety.

Thanks for you guidance and help, Dave, here and in the other thread! Much appreciated. :)

Where do you think I got the idea? ;) I love HIC. I just wish he had more tea recipes--I love tea vapes. Tea flavors (black, green and white) have replaced tobacco flavors for me--savory, subtle and "leafy" without the tabacco taste. Perfect substitute.

HIC seems to have an unreal ability to sense nuances in juices. I made a small donation a while back and got the link to the Gum Road library, but haven't bought anything there yet.

I downloaded his Notes on Flavors (recent version) and it's interesting and entertaining and wonderfully written, but I use it more like a guide to flavors and percentages. Most of his recipes are way too sweet, too powerful for me. But I love reading them. Mouthwatering! It's like watching Food Network. :)

I've bought a few of his recipes, but he has a ton of ( maybe 80 !? ) free ones too. His style of mixing just works for me, and i've learned a lot about flavor combinations from his recipes, even if i don't always make them exactly the same way ( i tweak them sometimes).

You must really use low amounts of flavoring. I've often heard people say they increase the percentages in HIC's recipes by 50 %. I stick to the same percentages he uses for the most part.

Hmm, i didn't even know FW has d/a/ap info. They didn't used to have the most stellar reputation as far as transparency.

So did some more background reading on FlavorWest.
Mostly just muddied the waters even more :-x
Basically, the earlier linked DAAP list is promoted as a 'flavor list'.
Suppose this could mean 'no DAAP ingredients added' - they didn't dump DAAP in...
but the overall flavor could contain DAAP via the individual flavors combined. ? ?
Much of the discussion has always revolved around no release of actual lab results.
I mean, look at the 'flavor list'.
It's signed by "Jason Sterns" - ie: " I promise it's ok"
So who knows....
One of the great things about FlavourArt - they aren't the gold standard, but the platinum!
They don't have a Butter Pecan though :( so....

Capella has released a new SilverLine (DAAP free) series of flavors that does have a Butter Pecan!
Butter Pecan-CSL
I'll be sure to have it in my next order.

Yeah, i wasn't into DIY when the FW fiasco occurred. I was only peripherally aware that they had claimed all their liquids were diacetyl free, and that an independent vendor ran his own tests and found that they were anything but. Lots of people stopped using FW ( even those that weren't too concerned about diketones ), due to a perceived lack of transparency and ethics. I never bought from them, but i had tried some mixes that a friend made years ago, as well as a few from Mount Baker which supposedly uses FW.

Sorry, I was in a hurry and didn't explain it well. I know that HIC mixes at low percentages; my issue is his flavor profile more than anything else. The guy has a sweet tooth. He creates very complex recipes for bakery/dessert/Starbucks-inspired coffees/boozy drinks with rum and Irish cream. They all sound delicious, but I don't care for this kind of flavors in my juices. I like simple, savory, with just a hint of an accent note. Drew's Lung Green Tea was my ADV for a long time, until they discontinued the entire lung line after his passing... I liked to mix Deej's teas with his single fruit juices, but he closed shop, too. So that's what I'm looking for. A simple tea (green, black and white) with just a hint of something else--honey, lemon, cream, fruit. A delicate tobacco that doesn't reek of artificial tobacco, pipe or cigar. Cucumber? ;)

Right. That said, I just bought a bottle of FW White Tea because I couldn't find anyone else who makes white tea. And I got a bottle of INW Sesame--I'm sure it's loaded with diketones, but HIC loves it and I just have to give it a try. I love sesame seeds and Tahini sauce. Diketones be damned.

What process to use to taste flavors?

I start with a good whiff upon opening the cap.
Hmmm, tasty - no butyric acid!
Then dip a toothpick in for a drop or two on the tongue. Zing!

Then time for a tester mix.
(Just starting out DIY, a '100 drop test' can be good way to go.
Helps to get an idea of what strength you might like the flavor at.
Using Bill's 100DT Taste Test Method | E-Cigarette Forum )
Now, I go for a 2ml tester.
1ml PG - 1ml VG - .05ml flavor = 5% flavor.
For tobaccos or known strong flavors, 2% is a better starting point.

Then it goes in my RDA, firstly holding it a few feet away with the topcap off and getting a smell of the produced vapor.
Vape away! with several 'tongue resets' with a saltine cracker and.. grape koolaid <- also a good cure for 'vapor-tongue'

Put some notes in your calculator.
HotRods is great:
New Calculator to try
File links for: Setup_V8.0.0.8zip
GoogleDrive: JuiceCalculator - Google Drive
or
DropBox: Dropbox - JuiceCalculator

Now, do the 'magic-juice dance', have a drink, and contemplate how to mix it.

Start with a new mix at 5ml, no nic, and just a couple of flavors.
Repeat a few times, adding/changing flavors/%'s and taking notes.
I use the calculator for notes, and name them progressively :
1st mix : 100 Blueberry. Next mix: 101 Blueberry etc.
Then they list in order and I can look back on them.

FINALLY - time to move to 10ml and some nic.
A real Vape - whoohoo!
And repeat until...... well - only time will tell!

What to use for tasting juice?

I struggled with a tasting setup for along time.
I wanted something easy to quickly change,
yet use a device with decent flavor.

I finally settled in on a cheap RDA over a bridgeless atty etc.
I got a Shield by Neutral Works ($70 originally) for $5.

Its offset posts makes it easy to put in a 'semi-vertical' coil.
Then a very small piece of wick can easily be slipped in.
And the top cap removes easily for quick access.

Check out the recent thread from @stols001:
What do you use for tasting juices?

Last night I ordered two IGO-L's from MyVaporStore on sale for $2.99 each (Regular Price $19.99). Someone here recommended them and the price was right. The intake air hole on the side is small for MTL vaping in dripping style. The top pops off and coiling/wicking is easy. It does dual and single coils. The top hole fits a standard drip tip. Flavor is supposed to be top notch.
Youde UD IGO-L Rebuildable Atomizer
An extremelly popular 'old-school' RDA for tasting.

I use a hadaly. Best thing ever to test flavor. There are plenty of clones of it now.
$5.52 Hadaly Styled RDA Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer - stainless steel / 22mm diameter at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping
An excellent/popular 'newer' style taster.
