I can't seem to get a good vape off the vanilla custard, no matter how little I use, the vanilla part is ok, but the burn is super strong, I feel it in my nose if I french inhale, and it seems quite bitter. To my mind it is almost closer to a tea flavor than my tea is. Almost perfumey.
So far I've struck out on:
black tea, white and concord grape, and vanilla custard, all flavorart flavors. Do I need sweetner or what am I doing wrong?
my basic mix is 75 25 (3-10)(0-3) PG VG Flavor Water

I get almost no taste on most, and sometimes I get a sharp bitter like with the custard, the grapes I can't taste, black tea is almost like a fruit sensation but no taste.
Has anyone had any luck using these flavors in a mix with anything else, I'm thinking if it isn't strong enough it could be mixed with something else to create a great flavor but I don't know what.

FlavourArt makes a Vanilla Custard? (haven't seen it). Or do you mean Capella's Vanilla Custard?

Ive used Capellas Vanilla Custard and I find it delicious but if I use too high a % of flavoring it starts tasting like perfume (very... floral? Its kinda nasty).

With that said, let me give you a little observation ive made. I got some FlavourArt Coconut flavoring. I find the coconut element of the flavor is pretty hard to taste (kinda disappoined) but it has this incredible sweetness and creaminess to it that I totally wasnt expecting. I discovered that if I add this in a 1:3 or 1:2 ratio of FlavourArt Coconut:Capella Vanilla Custard, I get this really sweet and creamy vanilla taste (again, I dont seem to notice the coconut flavor but definetly notice a sweetness and creaminess to the vapor that it adds).

Ive now been doing all sorts of additions of FlavourArts coconut to my other flavorings and am coming up with some pretty tasty creations. Even flavorings that I felt I "struck out" on, once I revisited with the ability of adding a sweet/creaminess to the flavor, some of them were no longer a hopeless cause.

I havent delved into adding true sweeteners yet, im sure when I do, it will add another element. I really love the "creaminess" of FA's coconut flavoring though, anytime I want a creamy feel/taste in my e-juice, I toss some of that in.

Definetly pickup a sweetener if you want, just little additions like that can dramatically change the experience with a flavor, even if your original experience with the flavor wasnt good, revisit it with adding other elements to it and you may just find it unlocks the flavor!

The flavourart vanilla custard is overwhelmingly sweet on my palate. So much so that I can't vape it, even at quite low concentrations. Zero bitterness.

Everyone's palate is different. Try other flavors from other vendors to find the flavors you like.

If you don't like the vape of a certain flavor, try using it in food instead. The vanilla custard I can't vape goes great for me in cakes, puddings, etc.

I find many flavors, Capella vanilla custard included, do better at low concentrations, like 10%. More than that and they get cloying or bitter. Flavors in DIY are not easy to get right. And some can irritate, no matter low dilute they are, and this depends on the person. If you find a flavor is making you cough a lot no matter how low the conc is, I would avoid it.

Okay Guineahill...that pretty muchs answers my question I just asked you in the Oils post :)

I am wondering if there is any actual scientific information available as to the safety of any of these ingredients ? Or is it too early for anyone to have done these experiments yet ? I would really like to try things like sweeteners etc but just am not sure....???

There haven't been any studies specific to vaping that I am aware of... however it is worth remembering that aroma is a major factor in taste. So... while we are conscious of inhaling the flavoring agents in e-liquid, we are also inhaling flavorings when we breathe deeply to appreciate the aroma of cinnamon buns!

Your comment made me go look at my invoice. Sure enough, Capella's. Sorry! :( Must be a bout of CRS again!

LOL - You know you have reached 'Master Collector' status when you can't remember what you got from whom or when!

;)

Haha! I'm drowning in flavors, to be sure. It's sometimes hard to pick which one to mix. My Capellas is in the same black 3ml bottle Happy Vaper uses for his Flavourart, so it got stuck in me peabrain with the wrong manufacturer. Sure glad Jack sells good flavors for cheap, though!

And yet, I'm getting an itch to buy or blend new ones :)

Funny, i was vaping maybe 3%.

Go figure, seems better if I let flavors sit a few days.

I bought it from Happy Vaper, I think there is a potential for amazing flavors and great food use as well, maybe even for alcohol, but I'm so lost on the mixing part still. Smells great though

I hope im not jumping the gun by saying this (forgive me max), but I have it on good authority that FlavourArt is actually in the process of setting up safety evaluation studies for their flavorings use in vaporizers.

I dont know the specifics of how exactly they plan to evaluate the safety, but apparently it is an endeavour they are taking very seriously and have in the works.

It will be very interesting to see the results and the study protocols used for ascertaining these results.

I finally just checked out the new DIY Flavor section at Perfumers Apprectice....long story short I think I got one of everything! THIS is great....you can get 4ml at a time for $1.50!! Check them out...it is also where scubabatdan gets his Tobacco Absolute and Ethyl Maltol for sweetening and sofenting flavors.
