Koolada seems pretty potent, I would use it sparingly in small quantities and see how you like it. It goes well with fruits like a mint or menthol does.

You could mix the rum and tobacco together or the butterscotch may work with the sweet cream.

Have you checked out the DIY threads here yet? They have recipes, tips, links to apps for saving/calculating recipes.

Good luck! It's fun to start mixing your own flavors - you will probably enjoy it.

There are LOTS of threads about recipes, some based on certain flavor brands, some not.

Here's just one for TPA/TFA flavors...

Here's just one for FA flavors...

Daath has put together a data base that you may find helpful as well. Tons of recipes have been submitted to his DB. You can can plug in a flavor and bring up all the recipes in the DB it is used in, and they list what brand of flavor. Both TPA/TFA and FA flavors will be found there.

Have fun, and welcome to DIY.

There are a few things I have found I mix in many recipes:

Marshmallow - I use TFA and I have a 120ml bottle because I use it so often. It brings a richness and mouth feel IMO.

Vanilla Custard - Capella is the best I've found so far (IMO). Again, I always have a large bottle around. I use it in a lot of recipes.

Vanilla everything......... classic, cupcake, swirl, bean ice cream, Madagascar, etc. In a lot of the recipes I mix.

Sweet cream you already have - that's another good one to have around. Other creams include.....Bavarian, Vienna, whipped, butter, etc. Again, in a lot of things I mix.

Sucralose sweetener - I use this in everything. I like sweet juice and haven't found any recipe that's better w/out it. I use TFA just because it works fine for me and I have had no need to look elsewhere. God know I already spend $$$ on trying new flavors.

Ethyl Maltol (EM) - I used TFA pre-mixed originally. I would recommend starting with that. Now I buy the crystals and mix my own to save $. This additive wasn't something I used when I only made single flavor recipes. Now that I mix multiple flavors this helps meld flavors IMO.

I am no expert. I've only been doing DIY e liquid for Around 4 months. I have not had to buy commercial juice since day one. I started out, as recommended, with single flavor mixes. I didn't find too many that I was very happy with so I jumped into multi-flavor recipes. I haven't looked back. I am having so much fun with this and I wish the same for you. A lot has to do with personal likes/dislikes. What works for me might not for you.

A lot of what I've learned I found on the DIY E liquid forum. It's a great place to do research. I highly recommend it.

I hope I've helped somehow. As always, HAVE FUN!!!!

My suggestion would be to sample each flavor on it's own. You need to know what the individual flavors taste like before combining. I can't tell you how many times a person bought a flavor for example blueberry and decided to make a blueberry pie by adding blueberry, graham cracker and maybe a bit of whip cream flavoring as a topping only to find out the blueberry flavor taste like jolley rancher grape candy. You would have known this if you tasted each ingredient individually before starting and saved yourself a whole lot of fustration. Knowing what each flavor taste like will give you an idea of what the combinations will taste like and often lead to inspiring combinations.

Let me share two that do NOT go together. My clearo was almost empty of the tobacco/menthol blend from the local B&M, so I topped it off with something called juicy fruit from the same vendor. That stuff was so nasty I swore of both for two months. I tried both separately recently, and they are both good. Sometimes it really does make sense to clean the tank and wick between flavors.

Unless you're trying for a specific flavor, I've found that trial and error in small quantities can be fun and very rewarding. When I started DIY I only bought a few flavors to try in case I didn't like the whole mixing process. When I started running low on the basics I mixed with the few flavors I had left before my new flavors came, thinking I had nothing to lose. It worked out so well that I created one of my (still) favorite juices, and I've been mixing flavors randomly from time to time ever since.
While it's very important to know what flavors taste like on their own, you never know what kind of amazing flavors they'll make until you try mixing them with random flavors. Just have fun with it, and remember to start in very small batches. I like to use contact lense containers when trying new mixes in case they are complete duds! They can be boiled to remove any smells left behind, and they hold just enough for trial and error recipes.
Good luck! :)

tasting your flavors as suggested means to mix up some pg and your flavor to the proportions you would get the most flavor from.
ex: in a small bottle put 9 drops pg to 1 drop flavor for a 10% mix... too strong try a smaller drop, too weak add another drop. (write it down !!) shake real well before trying each percentage on your " drip atomizer"
takes a little time, but you can do it.. :2cool:

I would suggest to never use the drop method. Case in point. I just got some 1ml droppers from TFA (The flavor apprentice). I used a 3ml syringe for my testing on how many drops it takes per 1 milliliter. I did both my pg straight and my vg. results were quite eye opening.

after 10 runs of each from the same dropper at it's 1 ml mark the pg would be 47 to 48 drops per ml and the VG was 30 basically. Both varied 2 to 3 drops each time though it seemed. I assume the large difference between the two is caused by viscosity (vg much thicker than pg).

One might assume, that since or if all their extracts are 100% pg base, then they could reliably depend on the 47 or 48 drops per mil idea. However some extracts I've learned vary greatly in their viscosity and as such, you can be off as much as 10 drops, depending on the extract.

Anyway, there are plenty of posts about dropping not being a good idea. But to each their own. It's not enough to depend on especially if you're trying to work out a flavor. With small batches I use insulin syringes. They work well and seem to be far more consistent than drops. It's easy to get .1 ml from an insulin syringe. Though I've never just added a point one anything into something. Good luck on your experimenting.

I'm sure no DIY guru at all. I have some TFA peanut butter that's giving me fits trying to get it to actually taste like peanut butter. I'm also pulling my hair out atm trying to get TFA Kahlua and Cream to taste like a good thing as well. Yes I've made test batches 5ml of each in 3%, 5%, 7 % 9% 11% 13% and 15%. Still nothing but a lil nut type flavor from the PB and waiting on the Kalua and cream to steep a few more days atm before I try it.
