At the risk of sounding stupid what kind of form is ok to use in carts? I may have some marineland blue stuff in my garage, but I brought home a big block of black foam from work today. Very dense and heavy used to ship very expensive meds, we just throw it away so I figured I would try it. Got home and thought maybe not a good idea better ask. Any thoughts out there?

You want to use something you can be sure has no harmful chemicals. I wouldn't touch any foam just designated as packing material. Also the density matters, to coarse or fine and it won't hold the fluid like it needs to.

Here's the fluval that gets recommended. I haven't tried any of the replacement products or mods yet, still washing mine out and they are holding up great but this will probably be my next replacement.

Fluval Polyester Pads from Hagen - Filter Media - Fish - PetSmart

Here's a mod using a straw and Pyramid Tea Bag(PTB) which seems to work for alot of people. I'll probably give that one a shot when the time comes also.

Foam of any kind will lose its tighness, kinda like a bikini.I use mine past its prime but think its at least a month out before I recut new foam till it drools like a bad date its mine. All kinds of foam works for different juices my favorite cart mod for 10 months running for sure is the(bfd).Everyone finds their nirvana mine is a 510 bfd with a two drip to the atty , then only 8 drops to the cart.Hope it works for someone.
