Hey guys, I'm thinking of ordering a Nemesis, specifically it's between the two cheaper ones: Nemesis Silver SKU: 13124and Nemesis silver gold SKU: 18302. Do you guys know if they are the same (threading, manufacturer, quality)? If they are, I will probably choose the solid colored one, just because I don't like mega shiny gold.
I'm wanting to have the option of upgrading to a magnetic switch, so if that isn't possible, I will look for other similarly priced options.
I currently have a 4nine, which I like due to it's insanely low voltage drop and magnetic switch (although the switch can be finicky at times), and because it's so damn compact. If someone could recommend a competitor of the nemmy with those features while still being $20 or below, I'd be all ears for that as well.
i have both nems 13124 and 18302.
like many have said, 13124 has not nemesis standard tubes and cap threading, so you won't be able to exchange tubes or caps with other nemesis. its switch is pretty good.
18302 has standard measures. the switch is slightly worse than 13124 though. the golden plating of lock ring and cap gets off relatively fast, but the color of the underneath brass is nice.
threads of both are very good. the joins of tubes are not invisible.
both switches are easily upgradable with magnets (but get good magnets, inner diameter should be equal or greater than 10mm, 17x10x1mm for example, N42 grade or greater is desired).
upgrading the rice pins of the switches is also possible and desired (replace it with a wider pin, 1.98 x 6.00 is a right measure, for example, instead of the one stocked, which can be 1.78 x 6.25 or 1.88 x 6.00; make it yourself, you can use any material, like copper or brass). this helps to reduce wobbliness.
lubing the switch will help to reduce crunchiness. you have to lube the exterior side of the central post, and the interior side of the ring. if you don't have a good grease (like no-ox-id, for example), you can use the graphite of a pencil: just "paint" the sides with it.
about the stingrays, i also have the two models. sxk and the cheaper one.
sxk one is clearly better in every sense (joints, engravings, switch, etc.), although the cheap one is very good. both have less voltage drop than nemesis (which are quite good in this aspect, too). the only advantage of the cheaper one (not 1:1), is that you can use it in 18650+kick mode by using the stock tubes. you can do it in the sxk one as well, by purchasing an extra tube extension (22mm desirable).
edit: "normal" stingrays (not x) are also a good option. voltage drop similar to nemesis. quality of switch, and joins invisibility depends a lot of the price of the stingray. you can replace the rice pin with a wider one, if it is too thin. lubing is very advisable, like in stingray x and nemesis. if you plan to use kick, you should purchase the extra tube extension (22mm) though.
