Ok, FC has agreed to send others the rebuild kit on the SqR without their placing another order, so I have asked as well. There are other things I want, but need to stop spending for awhile :). Chuckie has behaved since Sunday, but he did go from the wee hours of Thurs morning to Sunday night without incident, so I'm not trusting him yet.

I got an email from Doris this morning asking if it would be "okay to send the replacement parts," without a request for an additional order. I was pleased enough to go ahead and buy more stuff I don't need.:D

I wanna try the dark horse. I just afraid there's too much air flow and the flavor would suffer

I really want an Erlkonigin clone. Just waiting right now I suppose.

I'm not sure how much the Dark Horse can be throttled back but I guess I'll find out. I prefer my RDAs kind of airy so it should work well for me. However, I don't plan on using it with the massive drip top cap. I'll post my thoughts on it in a couple of weeks when it shows up.

my glass drip tip broke at work yesterday ( :( )

had to go sans-drip tip. wasn't terrible but you can't even tell how much vapor you have until it's too late. I imagine a chuff DT is like that at first
I love the look of glass DTs but that, and the thought of a bloody lip, are why I can never have any. :(
Even some of the wider bore DTs (12mm+), are throw me off - don't think I could've made it through the whole day like that.

you'll know if the thing is cracked (glass). really no mistaking that

what I tell/ask people, "what do you prefer to drink out of"

people stopped drinking out of steel/aluminum cups like 100 years ago. PMMA drip tips have this "flavor" that I can never seem to get rid of

obviously if it doesn't bother you it doesn't bother me

also, the condensation on the glass DTs just look awesome to me

lol, this was the end of the work day where I stand in front of my wife's building while she insists on making me wait...and wait...

I was dripping in the 454 big block and was trying to put the cap back on after dripping. happened in slow motion and fell directly on the drip tip. I just had to survive the remaining 5 minutes until she decided to show up, then the 40 minute car ride home in traffic

Ok I am confused now .. I just read and quoted your first post .. so what is it based on your experience as a machinist?

Still working the metal down, I appear to have worked thru some sort of coating. I managed to get it down to bare metal now but still have some spots to work on. I plan on sandblasting it after I get the copper colored coating completely off.

Here is where its at for the moment:

Wonder why they coated the Stainless Steel? Its suppose to be corrosion resistant by its base characteristics.

The sandblasting looks nice, but .. you took everything apart, do you know how to reinstall it all or ???

Yes its still magnetic, at first I thought the coating might have cause it to be magnetic, but after working it down to bare metal its still sticking. I have heard of SS magnetizing if it was heavily machined so maybe that is the answer. I feel better now that I have worked thu this mystery coating. I would have been bummed if they tried to pass plated copper off as 316 steel. Not sure if its exactly 316 now due to the magnetism, but at least its some sort of steel.

Sandblasted it to finish it off, I think it came out pretty good now:

Whoa Whoa Whoaaaaaaa .... I am a freaking speechless! You have to send these photos to FC, and now I need to copy them and send to Robbot because this is .. NOT OK!!!

I don't even know what to say, but I will be doing a magnet test on mine in a minute ..

Shocked me too this morning when I seen this !!!

Ok I am confused now .. I just read and quoted your first post .. so what is it based on your experience as a machinist?

Im confused too, dont know why they would even coat or plate 316 Steel. Its already corrosion resistant.
Showed it to my boss too this morning and he was clueless too about why they would coat it.
We both agree that its probably not 316 due to its magnetic attraction.

Wasnt too hard to take apart, but will have to solder the positive and negative wires back onto top cap section. I can take some pics of the disassembled parts if anyone is interested, might be useful for a DIY board swap down the road.

Still not sure why or what type of coating they put on it.
Originally it has a matte finish, I just put one back on after I worked the coating layer off.

It didnt come with the copper color bleeding through, I just buffed it down to see what type of metal it actually was after I noticed it starting to flake off inside the mod.

To be honest, for a bit I thought the 316 part of the mod was a plated copper of some sort once I started seeing it show up during the buffing proccess. It is steel, just not certain that its 316L now.

It is possible that whatever coating was used was done to replicate the coating on the authentic .. I mean Zen uses different special finishes etc on all of his devices, and whatever that original finish consisted of, aesthetically it does match the tone and texture of the authentic Zen, just google pics of it.

I still need to ask Robbot, but in hindsight this now makes more to sense to me in that Robbot sent me a picture of a 18650 prototype that they were working on, and one of the things that I noticed was that the tone and texture of the raw prototype was obviously different than my finished Robbot ZNA ... this is what the 18650 prototype looked like unfinished ..

Oh, believe me, there are several things I want :). But, I really need to be on a spending moratorium right now.

Yes, Im sure its some sort of coating, just not sure as to its purpose.
My sandblasting looks exactly like their method used for the finish and you dont need a coating for that.

Now if they can explain magnet attracting 316 Stainless Steel, I would love to hear that response.

Well they would coat for the same reason that Zen coated the original being that its 1:1 copy .. here are pics of the authentic Zen ZNA 30 with the same grey coating

Well, Tuesday is not too long to wait, Decided to order it, only $22 with tracking. :D
Was looking around and the original is $150
This is a good deal if it works good and is 1:1
