Do yourself a favor and find another hobby to unwind with. I am strongly against anyone trying e-cigs that have never smoked. I smoked for 45 years and couldn't stop no matter what I tried. Nicotine is very addictive and as mentioned the hand to mouth and oral fixation is a habit in itself that is very hard to break.

What if the OP's intentions are noble-- in that he/she may impress upon smoking friends a better alternative?
Sure nicotine/certain behaviors are addictive, but whats worse-- smoking or acting like it.

I still wouldn't recommend anyone to start vaping if they've never had a cigarette in their life! Why pick up a bad habit in order to help others stop their bad habit? That doesn't make sense to me. It would be better for someone to direct their friends to this forum if their friends are looking to quit analogs!

Lets be honest though, the real reason for everyone's insane denial of non-smoker turning to vaping is not because of the "possible effects years down the line" but because of the government/FDA will have a lot of ammunition against e cigs if non smokers start vaping instead of smoking and giving them revenue..

IMO - its your body. if you want to vape 0mg you can, while it may be advised that it could lead to a) an addiction for the "movement" / "action" of smoking .. and b) if you move onto nicotine vaping, then you can potentially become addicted and nicotine does do some harm to the body. or c) there IS a possibility of something we dont know about 10 years down the line which could affect us but at the end of the day If its smoking vs vaping, vape. if you REALLY wanna vape, no one can stop you, but please stay on 0mg :)

That wasn't my intention with persuading him/her not to pick up the habit at all. I'd tell my own mother the same thing as I told the OP. The FDA has nothing to do with it for me.

Her's the thing. If you do it, ONLY do the 0mg! No point in doing the nicotine, right? That stuff is EXTREMELY addictive! The withdrawals are NOT fun!

And I say doing the 0mg would unwind you...of course someone addicted to nicotine will say that 0mg wouldn't unwind you...but I find vaping the 0mg relaxing. Yes I do the 0mg. Haven't done any mg of nicotine and I haven't even wanted to(I'm a noob vaper, though, so take that with a grain of salt.)

I haven't smoke real cigarettes for six months and before that I only smoked when I drank(I smoked regularly for about five years when I was younger.)

But I LIKE smoking and just don't do it regularly because it's just plain proven unhealthy.

Now there have been times when I would go on a drinking binge and I would be smoking a LOT. I would find that "oh crap!" I'm addicted to this stupid nicotine(yes it happens that FAST), because when I went without a cigarette all the nerves and cells in my body would be screaaaming out of my skin, until I had a cigarette.

That isn't fun. Stay away from that!

I'm sure there are probably things about the e-cigs that aren't quite as healthy as good ol' air, but whatever, I enjoy smoking and just keep vaping doing 0mg and I'll keep it that way.

So I say as long as you keep it at 0mg, you should be all right. And maybe you can convert some of your analog-smoking friends!

Why on earth would you want to pick up a habit that (1) is expensive; (2) is addictive, physically, emotionally, and chemically (if you use nicotine); and (3) is downright abhored by no less than 50% of the population? I SO regret picking up my first cigarette in my teens...and can't believe I ended up smoking over a PAD for over twenty years. I came to e-cigs because I needed to quit and I'm allergic to the patch, knew that gum wouldn't work, and am terrified of the prescription stop-smoking drugs.

I don't vape because it relaxes me...I vape because it feeds my addiction and is healthiER than smoking. If I want to truly relax, I sit down with a crochet needle and make something or bake.

I think it would be a shame if you started vaping just to have more commonality with your friends.

It doesn't really surprise me that a non-smoker might stumble across this forum and start to wonder about e-smoking. Looking through these forums offers a wealth of information and hundreds, likely THOUSANDS, of rave reviews and possitive commentary.

@OP: Bear in mind, though, ALL of those rave reviews and possitive commentaries are based on "E-Cigarettes vs. Tobacco Cigarettes". The only reason many, if not all, of us picked up e-cigarettes is because they are almost certainly FAR healthier than tobacco cigarettes. Regardless of what the long-term effects of e-cigarettes may be, they are likewise almost certainly FAR better than the known effects of analogues. Having said that, if you take the "vs. Tobacco Cigarettes" out of the equation, there is simply no good reason to expose your health and your body to that uncertainty, 0mg juice or not.

I'll tell you like I tell my 18 year old son when it comes to tobacco/smoking/vaping/nicotine............. "Son, you know I can't tell you not to do it, since I do and that would make me a hypocrite, but I will tell you that I sincerely hope you never will because any attempt I've ever made at overcoming nicotine addiction is by FAR the hardest thing I've ever tried to do. Life is hard enough sometimes without adding to it."

This right here. Seriously. This is the argument I intend to use when (if) I ever find myself with someone who looks up to me...

Dead wrong, man.

The fact that us being ETHICAL, by not advising a non-smoker to vape, makes us look good, is just a nice bonus.

It IS because of the possible effects down the line. You don't know what they are. None of us do. The stuff we vape is "generally safe," but no one has tested it for daily, constant inhalation, which is what we're doing. There are possible long-term risks, here.

The compulsive addiction is real, and extremely powerful for some people. Compulsive/habitual addictions are some of the hardest to break because you can't just "not get anymore." You will be forever tormented by your own body. It's terrible. Like I said, it is the worst part of the addiction for me.

And honestly, someone who is naive enough to want to vape so they can blend in with their friends, probably doesn't take the slope of addiction very seriously.

Vaping could be saving my life, but it's better if people can avoid endangering their lives in the first place.

No one knows what happens 5, 10, 15 years down the line. Taking that risk when you're not a tobacco addict is stupid.

I agree. Bad+bad=worse. You don't want to pick up M because your friends are doing it only to persuade them to go to rehab.. it honestly doesn't make sense. If you want your friends to switch inform them and so forth.
