For those of us...me...who aren't so scientifically inclined how hard is it to start DIY? I guess I've reached that point where I'm starting to get interested in doing this myself. I'm not sure if its the natural progression of things but I'm wanting to give it a shot. Ive already discovered some good flavors & I've seen the flavorings for sale at the sites i normally buy them from. However, let me be clear...I was never that great at the chemistry so if there's a chance that ill injure myself or my four legged children in the process pleases tell me to back away now! :danger:

If you think I have a chance what are the basics that I need to purchase? I normally vape a 70/30 pg/vg mix with 18mg of nic. Any advice would be appreciated & as always thanks :vapor:

The easiest thing to do (in my opinion) is to buy the nic base close to what you want, then buy super concentrated flavors from vaping zone. They only need to be mixed at 2 - 5 % which won't change your pg/vg or nic % very much. Then of course you need some bottles and measuring equipment. I recommend a small graduated cylinder and a few small syringes with blunt tip needles. You can get great results this way and it is very easy to do.

I am new to this also
So here is what I did

As you know, juice is at least 4 ingredients
Nic,pg,vg and flavor

Go to Wizard labs
Buy PG/VG and Nic all in 1 bottle, you pick the Nic level (no mixing to do )
Now all you need is a flavor and they have many, most at less than $2 and they tell you the best % to use.
You can call them also and they will guide you
They also have all the bottles, and every thing all there
They are also very inexpensive :)

I agree Wizard Labs has everything you need and are VERY helpful and easy to work with. I vape 18mg/ml so I have been getting 36mg nic, flav, and I cut it with glycerine USP from the pharm. You might also need to get some PG from WL to make the formula work out. I use the ejuice me up calculator, and find it pretty easy. Good luck and VAPE ON!

Hi Chimney Friend !!!
DIY is not hard...or dangerous if you stick with the nic base that is close to what you vape....as DVX says.
I started with 36 mg/ml PG base, cut it in half with VG to make 18 mg juice.
Last batch I bought was 2 bottles-250 ml of 54mg/ml PG.
Will probably cut it by 4 or 5... Making 10.8 or 13.5 mg/ml....
I'm not totally precise about it- the flavoring is going to dilute it a little...for me, I'm in the ballpark...it may turn out to be 9,10 or 11 mg/ml.
Not hung up with the 'strength' anymore...just like to vape flavor.
I have purchased nic base from electronic-ash...can't comment about wizard labs or any others...don't know.
(It is called 'unflavored eliquid')
For flavorings...I use The Flavor Apprentice - great stuff...but don't get carried away...there are SO many choices !!!
You will be using, like 20, 40 maybe 50 DROPS of flavoring...so a 15ml bottle go's a long way....
I have 25 of them. I went crazy.
Like I'm telling you not to do.

Best to you...DJRyckrak

Hey there stranger! Lol! Thanks for the advice. I'm not so hung up on the nic level as long as I keep it at 12 or above. I'm gonna give it a shot & see what happens! I'm kinda getting excited to try this out! Ill try not to go overboard but you should know me by now! Lol! If I try it & it goes well I'm sure ill be out of control ordering different flavors! It'll probably be at least a week before I can place an order but should I order sweetener as well?

Wizard's stock comes and goes fairly fast, keep an eye on their site if you want something specific. I want more flavors and I started with 25 , I made a few batches tonight and I'm hooked (new to DIY btw)
Made a milk choc, strawberry, banana cream concoction. Not bad, gonna need some tweaking I think.
Made a modified version of a peach honeysuckle recipe I found here too. Good stuff!
Made a tutti-fruity and a juicy fruit.
Going to give them some time and see how they turn out. I do know this is a lot of fun and tastes great, saving me money compared to pre made and if I get bored with the flavor I can modify it with whatever.
I was a little intimidated as well, did some reading and edjucated myself and that eased any worries I had. Whatever % level you buy use caution as if it were high strength, that way if you decide to go a more concentrated route you don't have bad habits in place. We all should know how easy bad habits form.

What I've learned over the last week or so:
1. Buy twice as many bottles, syringes, needles and such as you think you need. You'll quickly find you need more.
2. Get the long, 16 gauge blunt needles.
3. Buy each of the various flavor enhancers such as EM (cotton candy), Smooth, and all the others you read about. I didn't, and now wish I had.
4. You should have at least 3 size syringes: 1ml for measuring flavors, 3ml or 5 ml for measuring small batches, and finally 10 or 20 ml for doing large batches.
5. Keep incredibly accurate notes! It's great to be able to go back and review exactly what you did 3 days later.

Finally, develop a system that works for you. Then follow it every time to avoid mistakes.

I second the flavor enhancer recommendation. I recommend getting some sweetener, smooth, coolada, caramel, cotton candy, and some sort of cream. Great for those times when you think it's ALMOST right but just needs a little something. Also very important is to remember to steep your juice. My first batch was just mehhhh but after a couple weeks it turned out to be really good! Now I make sure to stay ahead with some juice for vaping and another batch steeping.

I'm strange....not stranger !!!:D

Looked up Wizard last night before sleep....
I like their site, prices are very good...and they carry TFA flavorings...
and everyone seems to love them, going to give them some business next.

If your going for simple flavor recipes- one and two note Flavors...like a grape or a strawberry-cotton candy, ya don't need much extras.
But the two...make that three essential extras you should have....sweetener, lemon juice and distilled water.
Sweetener...everybody likes to add 'their' right amount.
Lemon juice... A drop per ml. in fruit flavors really brings out the fruit, it pops !
Distilled water...just to thin down thick mixes.

Start simple and easy....and have some fun !
(And yes...I do know where you will go with it...:toast:)

I will answer your question with a question... Can you cook? If you can, then you can DIY.

Hubby is fond of telling people I have a chemistry set in the kitchen for my juice. I immediately follow that with nah, it looks like chemistry, but it's closer to cooking. (just without the stove or oven. More the prep for cooking, I guess.)

Really, you are just mixing stuff together to make it taste good. Easy as pie. No bake pie.

The only thing is double then triple check your amounts for your nic content. E juice calculator makes that easy, but double check yourself anyway. Since it makes it so easy, you don't want to plug in a wrong # and throw your final strength off.

I get my nic base from My Freedom Smokes and it's super cheap there. I get my SC flavors from Vaping Zone and you can get bottles from either place. It's so easy, if I can do it so can you chimney lol. I'm not scientifically inclined either. I mix mine 80% base and 20% flavor. Mmmmmm good stuff. I'm proud of you, it's so much cheaper and you get the flavors you like, just the way you like em. Oh...I also get EM sweetener from My Freedom Smokes too, just to add a touch of sweetness. Another great tip that SupplyDaddy gave me was to add a couple of drops of Vanilla to your mixes, it's smooths them out to me and they aren't so harsh.

I just started DIY a couple weeks ago, I find it to be extremely easy. Way easier than dinking around with RBAs, so if you ever done that this will be a breeze.

I ordered nic/vg/pg all from wizard labs, they were out of some flavors I wanted or I would have got flavors from them too. I got 24mg vg nic base, and 24mg pg nic base, some pg, some vg. Once I add the flavors I get around 10mg nic. 1/4th of each for 50/50, add some flavor, easy. Little bit of math if you want other pg/vg ratio. I'm weird I use 65/35 vg/pg
