So on the ipv4, I found it next to impossible to see the screen due to the mirror cover. Not to mention i am older and my eyes arent as good as they use to be but anyways, A quick 10 second fix and you can remove that mirror cover and have a nice bright screen!

Simply remove the batteries and atomizer from your ipv4 and then remove the 2 screws on the inside. Then just slightly open up the device, Just a little, No need to fully open it, Take your nail and just pop off the screen and your good to!

Downside to doing this is A. You wont have any screen protection and B. It may not look as nice.

For those who are handy, You could easily make a new screen cover, Just use the old cover as a template.

If you mask off the rest of the screen cover you could just scratch off the section that actually covers the screen so you don't have to see the janky assembly underneath.

I agree. You could also take off all the chrome, mask a spot for the screen to show through, and then paint it black or any other color. If you don't dig the chrome.

I do dig your reviews though, VapnFagan. Keep up the great work.

I think if it were me doing this, I would take out the screen, get the chrome off, buff it out to as clear as possible, and then grab some tint and maybe put a light tint on the plastic. The same tint they put on vehicles. It can be bought pretty cheap at most auto part stores, or the like. That would be really easy to do, and it would look really dark until the screen lights up. Sounds like a great idea anyway. I am still on the fence with this mod, as I bought the SX Mini M. I originally wanted this one, as the price was better, but now that I have the M, I really don't think I have a need for this one.

Would be interesting to see what other people can come up with though. I will be following this thread.

That my friend is GOD awful! They changed the look of this device. It used to look ok. now its just crap. I would never buy this until they fix a few things. I taught myself to wait! Wait, and not be one of the compulsive buyers that pre order everything *Hot* off the pan!... Kanger subtank mini just changed for the 2nd time. Whatever about that. But damn this device is straight hideous! I would never mod anything that cost 100 dollars I don't care if it had a thousand watts.
I love how the youtube reviewers faces and cameras are all being revealed in the mirror from this.

Not to be a pedant, but I know of at least 4 rolling changes Kanger has made to the subtank mini.

I hope this doesn't void the warranty..pfy should sell a separate cover to customers

It DOES void the warranty! Asmodus in Paramount CA does all the warranty service for Pioneer4You. Here's a portion of that warranty:

"Not covered in the warranty: This warranty does not cover the atomizer, batteries, charger, tips or any other accessories, only the device are covered by the warranty. The warranty does not cover improper or unreasonable use, including but not limited to: failure to follow operating instructions; water damage, unauthorized modification or customization of original device, loss of or damage to the device or its internal components. Damage from stripping of the threads is not covered, and damage to the finish is not covered in the warranty."

It's a ONE YEAR warranty which is handled by Asmodus.

Buy hey WTH... we're modders and we do what we do.

I definitely would not use a Scotch Brite scrubbing pad. I would get a sheet of wet/dry sanding paper used for smoothing out automotive paint jobs. Such as a 2000 grit paper.

Also NOVUS No. 2 plastic polish would work well for this too. Removes fine scratches, haziness and abrasions from most plastics. With repeated use, NOVUS No. 2 restores faded and discolored plastics.
  • Removes the damage instead of filling it in
  • Buffs out quickly
  • After restoring, seals with a coat of polish
I keep a bottle handy to remove scratched from CDs, DVDs and BluRay discs.

Heh, I wasn't even counting that, 4 different bases that I know of. I have three different variations myself, and now the dual airflow variation. Not to mention the different RBA revisions, and as you mention o-rings.
Yeah man I want the new one. DAMN! the rba has bigger juice channels and more air flow. But i said screw it and bought a Goliath V1. Huge juice channels 4 to be exact and It guzzles Vg liquids which i need for the way i like to vape.

About the ipv4 I think they are afraid of being sued, so they changed the look of it.. Whi knows it sure did resemble the sx mini a tad, well, maybe not by much but the change has been awful.

Some people like modding so maybe it will be fun for some. Not for 100 bucks in my opinion. Also no charging with the sync cable. jeeez...

Did anyone go ahead and remove the mirror finish with much success?
I used some 91% alcohol to remove mine. Worked fairly well. There's a few extremely minor spots i need to go back over and then throw some tint on it but it's perfect. No scuffs or anything since i used the alcohol and q-tips to scrub/rub it off.

I just pulled it off wiped it down with rubbing alcohol, taped off the screen area then sprayed it with some semigloss black. Much better now.

How many coats did you put on that?
