I'm still a newbie, only been "vaping" for a few weeks, but I've learned a lot in this short amount of time and thought I'd share with those who haven't purchased yet. I'm long-winded (I'm a writer, I'm home from work sick, and I'm bored) so I'll share the short version up front...

Just buy one. Seriously, spend about $70 on something and get a few different strength cartridges to go with it, get small sizes of some of the liquid and just use the darn thing. You'll learn quickly whether you want more vapor or not, what nic strength you need, whether you like the size, etc... Once you figure all that out, then other people's reviews and research sharing will actually make sense. If you didn't like the model you chose just sell your quickstart kit to one of the friends that's been bugging you with the same questions since you got the thing.

Now the long story...

My husband and I made an impulse purchase and got the Mirage model (M401) at a convention booth a few weeks ago and paid way too much for it, but the learning experience has almost made the money invested worth it.

It seems to me that most of us come to this as a means of replacing "analogs" (who came up with that? It's hilarious!), or at least to use when we can't have one.

An important part of using (or switching to) a... what do they call these things, PVs? Anyway, an important part of it is figuring out what kind of smoker you are and researching the type of model that's going to best match your needs. I'm a smoking non-smoker. I smoke less than 10 a day and often don't even smoke the whole thing anyway. I only get that "man I need a cigarette" feeling at the traditional times (while drinking, or after dinner, sex, or a conversation with my boss). My husband is an actual smoker. At least a pack a day and then some.

Our thoughts on it all... He HATES the noise. The Mirage is noisey, at least ours both are. There's a whistling during the draw that annoys him. I really don't care so far, but perhaps it might bug me later. He needs a higher nic strength than I do, and surprisingly, we both need longer battery life. He's getting over the idea of the size mattering (oh there's a joke opportunity there, I can sense it through the nasal congestion) but I'm still really glued to the aesthestics.

On quitting... he's not looking to quit, and neither was I initially, but I'm positive now that I can. I discovered that I really enjoy the experience of smoking, even more so when there's no stink and I can do it inside and it can actually taste good! I'm puffing on this thing all day long, way more than I ever smoked before, so I decided to go for very low nic strength to use regularly and zero nic content to wean myself off it eventually. The best thing is I can get the same taste when I switch to zero nic content and still have the fixation met.

That is perfect!! The be-all end-all response and advice to all of the confusion that newbies (myself included) experience with so much informaiton to wade through.

Nice job ;)

Thank you for taking your time to write this, I am one of those people trying to decide which machine to get,
I am a heavy smoker and am thinking I should get the Prodigy or Protege
from all the info I read.

But your advice is probably really good, I should just try it and put down these "analogs" Since finding out about electronic cigs, I've been on here doing research, and smoking like a freight chain

Trying so hard to avoid buying the wrong machine etc, but indeed I dont' really fully understand what people are talking about... need to try yourself to really understand.

Thanks for giving me some courage to just Do It!!

This is the best advice that can be given.
Unfortunately, nobody who has ever had one understands.

I was told a couple of times to just buy one when I was a nOOb but I had to keep researching.
Yeah, I'm .... like that, and I suspect many of us are a bit obsessive-compulsive by nature anyway.

So we all do the best we can to help.
But in the end, you get one, you learn, and you help yourself.
:)

Great post, thanks! I started with a Joye510, which I still really like, but now I'm mostly using my two piece PV from Vapor4Life cus I just don't want to drip unless I'm in the mood [like now, french vanilla coffee. yum!]
So many options, so much to learn, but it's SO worth it to not smoke analogs anymore!
I never thought smoking was 'fun' just neccasary, but i didn't want to quit, and now I don't have to! Vape on!

Yup.. just do it.

My wife made the unfortunate mistake of buying a SE Gold at the local mall. Overpriced, and it under-performs. But..... it got us interested.. and it got us looking... and it got us trying.

I personally was never intending to quite my analogs, and here we are about a month later. She just knocked herself out with her 901 and some Sleep Time Green Tea Lung Juice from NHaler... and I'm vaping away at the computer on my 510. She hasn't had an analog in a month, and I'm down from 50 a day to about 3. Completely organically.

Just do it. Refine your approach later.
