I have had a bad reaction to PG and after my first couple hours of vaping had sores in my mouth, on my lips and anywhere else PG touched me. It burns just to have it on my skin. I have tried it a couple times since then and have the same reaction. I am just so glad there is another option besides analogs!

Oh....that sounds awful! I just have a REALLY sore throat. I'm assuming you're using VG then. What brand do you use?

My throat felt like someone had used a bottle brush on it. I know, it hurts! That was in January and Johnson Creek was the only one who sold anything non PG. So glad they were there, I really can't use any PG at all. It stinks when I hear everyone talking about all the great flavors. There are other sites that have DIY VG/flavorings. JC is the only one I know of that has premixed VG that you don't have to mess with. I really like their Tennessee Cured, and add a drop of Kona Coffee every once in a while to change it up. I've read a lot about it killing atomizers, but I have had the same 3 since January. (I was a heavy smoker, 2 packs a day, so I am a heavy vapor, too) My first one just died last week. So that hasn't been a problem for me.

It is a pity PG is not easy to get, otherwise it would be worth suggesting a skin test before buying / vaping a PG based juice. Especially as there might sometimes be a confusion with analog withdrawal; but if one gets any skin lesions or sores then a PG allergy is likely so discontinue use.

DO NOT try a skin test with a juice containing nicotine!

But remember that PG sensitivity is quite rare (but not that rare, perhaps 1 in 100).

When I started vaping (PG) I had a slightly sore throat (was very hoarse) and had dry/sore eyes along with a very stuffed up nose in the morning. I changed to vg once intellicig brought out their ecopure juice but I can't say it's made a great difference. I'm certainly much less hoarse and the throat doesn't hurt but the stuffed nose and dry/sore eyes persist.

I don't think I am allergic to PG. It just irritates me a bit.

PG does dry me out. My lips dry out (they also seem to shrink!), my mouth gets dry, my tongue gets irritated and I get a bit of a sore throat. I also find that I get bad sinus (post nasal drip) and this affects my ability to taste vapour (nb it is only the vapour I cannot taste I can still fully taste liquids and food). I also get slightly irritated eyes if I vape in a small room. I did drink plenty of water when vaping but that didnt seem to help (just made me need to go to the toilet a lot). I ended up with whole new regime - Blistex for my lips, Mouthwash to try and wash away any residual PG build up, Genigel to heal my irritated tongue, Opticrom eye drops, Vocalzone pastilles to help sore throat and clear sinuses etc.

It was costing me a fortune in medicines just so I could vape!

So I decided to mix my liquids with VG. I find if I mix with VG it gets a lot better. The flavour is obviously cut as well. However, if I mix too much VG I get a waxy taste. I havent been very methodical with my mixing though so I cant really say what ratios I use.

I've been vaping since January 2008 and only recently have I experienced a really dry, sore throat. Credit that to an evolution of heavy vaporizing devices. My first e-pipe was a vapor wimp. The first e-cigs were likewise wimps that yielded tiny puffs of stuff -- and virtually nothing if inhaled and then exhaled.

Enter the Kissbox. Changed my life. Now, this penstyle made vapor! Add the Screwdriver. OMG. Hold down that button for five seconds and you make clouds! Now throw in the new JantyStick I began two days ago. It's equal to the Screwdriver and Kissbox. Massive vapor.

I get so excited about these new toys that I tend to overuse them (normally I rely on snus and dissolvables much of each day, and have NO problem). As a result of more frequent e-cig use, I'm getting a really sore throat by evening. Sore throats crack the surface, so germs have an entry way. They are an irritation signal and invitation to illness.

I haven't solved this yet, but will try to balance daily nicotine intake better with all the choices I have and use.

I'm out of cut juice. I have stuff here that I need to cut. It's PG based and I do have plain PG here. Would a skin test tell me if it's the PG causing my sore throat? I've still been smoking analogs so I don't think it's withdrawel. Just a really sore throat and clearing my throat a lot...I'm a very minimal vaper, not being able to get the right taste, consistent hit, etc.

I really need to mix juice today but I don't know if I should switch back to mixing with the VG (which I really dislike the taste of) or not....Maybe the VG taste won't be so obvious if I mix in some LorAnn's in a sweeter flavor. It tastes awful with menthol crystals.

What recipe are you using? ie - how much juice, how much VG, how much flavouring?

Originally I was using MVS 24mg Menthol cut 50/50 with VG and a few drops of distilled water....REALLY strong VG taste....I added menthol crystals to that mix. I could still taste the soapy/sweet VG.

Last batch was MVS 555 24mg cut with 50/50 with a mixture of PG (around 30%) and VG (20%) and a couple drops of LorAnns English Toffee.
I think I made around 5ml to try it.

Right now, I just mixed up 8 drops 555, 4 drops VG, 2 drops distilled water, 4 drops PG and 4 drops English Toffee. It's okay, really can't taste the toffee though, I thought English Toffee was sweet....

I really need some tried and true recipes, I've browsed the recipe threads but I guess I need to persue that farther....

My throat wasn't bad at all this morning...we'll see if vaping this mixing which again is predominantly PG flares it up again.

Lots of water helps to get through that first phase of PG. Drink water inbetween; and especially drink some water, plus gurgle, before sleeping (don't vape anymore after doing this). This should allready help a lot. :)
(And true TB: larger devices coming in all the time will make the initial phase worse I think)

I have a cup of coffee with me pretty much all day, which probably doesn't help if it's a dehydration issue. I'll see how it goes today. I work for a family doctor so it's also possible I picked something up at work.

Thanks for the well wishes. I'd been having a lot of issues with the burnt atomizer taste and finally got that resolved. Today my throat is hardly bothering me at all and I've been vaping much more today since it doesn't taste burnt. I'm wondering if the burnt taste wasn't actually burning/irritating my throat. I was trying to not inhale when it was acting up but one time you'd get a decent puff, then you'd try it again and whoa....burnt and nasty....

Yeah, I'm not real thrilled with the DRY aspect of PG either and I don't like the soapy/sweet (to me) taste of the VG....I guess I need to keep playing around to find a balance of enough VG to counteract the drying of the PG but preferable not so much that the flavor is dominant.

I don't know if another brand of VG would be worth a try or not. I've got the NOW brand 100% pure VG, food grade, etc. I'd assume they all taste alike?
