retired1: I read those rules but again they're referring to semantics not vocabulary. There are words that can be judged as offensive or not depending on context . My experience is that the rule that automatically replaces some words with *** is not understanding the context.

Let me put it in simple terms. If it's offensive, we're going to remove it and issue the appropriate reminder. I'm not going to sit here and play the semantics game. That doesn't wash and it's not going to be tolerated.

Font #1 is teeny tiny. The line in blue in my sig was acceptable in the old forum. I'm confused. The font size that I'm seeing in everybody else's sig is bigger than #1.

Without a doubt, the text size in this interface is much smaller than "We" previously had . . . I have compared both and can tell that the Front Size #3 now is what was Front #1 . . . AND - Front Size #4 is very close to what Front #3 was which also was very close to the general Text Size that was used when posting messages to the threads too . . . I hope that information is understandable and even useful . . . :D

That is even why I brought this up before, the new text size in post is extremely small and forces some people - like myself, who just needed their reading glasses to see messages to also increase the magnification beyond 150% . .. Just Sayin' . . . :)

Really? Because we CAN see what was originally typed.

The rules are clear regarding inappropriate language. Don't even use it here, whether it's filtered or not.
I knew you could see it, but nobody ever said anything so I thought it was okay.
Guess I'll have to stop doing that then.

a. ECF is a work-friendly and family-friendly environment. This means that if a work colleague or family member looks over your shoulder while you are visiting ECF, they must not see any material that might easily offend or that may be unsuitable for children.

while i'm in complete agreement with this in general (i dislike foul language very much) i sometimes question the decision-making. there really isn't anything wrong with t.r.o.l.l. and it is not being blanked out anymore in ecf member trolldragon's username. but we have called him by his abbreviated name for months now and are now getting asterisks.:?: yes, the word has taken on a new meaning in certain circles but does that justify ignoring the main meaning of the word and censoring?
there are far more derogatory words in use here if somebody cares to look for them.

When a group of individuals starts insulting new members by calling them names that makes them feel unwelcome, we're going to take action in ensuring that doesn't happen. Sorry, but it goes back to the old adage, A rotten apple spoils the whole barrel.

We'll most likely remove it in the future, but for now, it's going to stay in the filters until those few learn that insulting new members is not what ECF is about.

I thought the spotting of a T word person was something to be reported. I seem to recall mods using it when a post was deleted? I'm assuming we use it in the "report" conversations.

On another note --- I've noticed a small problem that may not have been reported. When I hit the blue dot to get to last post read and there is a link to a google spreadsheet on the page (as those links newly posted don't show as links, but the actual spreadsheet) the page always bounces back to the spreadsheet link post or above. (Itty Bitty Thread)

and please -- move that mood bar -- anywhere!

Well my issue was with the word ..... (I know you can see it) which I used in such a way that it was clearly not addressed to any forum member. As a standalone word, out of any context, I don't find it offending or vulgar.

I saw that same behavior yesterday in the tootle puffer thread, couldn't figure out why it KEPT bouncing to one particular post, even though I had read far beyond that post.

I don't see a problem with the mood bar... but those subscriber round things are a) URGLY, and b) much too big, they throw the spacing completely out of whack, especially since adding the join date and location... the subscriber round thing really needs to be a) smaller or b) just a bar like the Veteran and Verified bars. Or if it really has to be a great huge round thing... what was wrong with the "badge" looking things we had before? They looked "official." :D

Listen - I fully get what "You" are saying, especially given the fact that one time I was calling "Myself" the other word for "Donkey" in a post . . . It was reported and I was reprimanded by a Moderator who changed the word . . . While I found it totally ludicrous at the time, especially given that I was not a child - but a much older man who was being self-deprecating, it was what it was . . . More importantly, while I do not agree with the why - nor sometimes the rationale behind the way things are done here on ECF at times either, however the :rules: are the :rules: . . . AND - IMO - Until the rule: are changed or modified (as "retired1" mentioned they maybe in the future) - without a doubt the rules concerning certain inappropriate words should be adhered to, at least to show a modicum of respect to "Our" host - just as "You" would want your guest to be respectful of "You" and how they should/should not behave in YOUR OWN HOME . . . "We" are the visitors here - who are and have been graciously been invited into someone else's "HOME" that has rules that "We" NEED to abide by . . . If Not - Those people who instead choose to ignore those :rules: or continually push the envelope to see how far and what they can get away with, especially after being warned - they should be just as willing to take responsibility for their actions and accept whatever repercussions there are for those choices . . . That's - Being An Adult . . . AGAIN - Just "My" Opinion and :2c: . . . ;)

Uncle - I understand what you say, but my problem is that, in order to be able to observe a rule, I need first to understand it. For this to happen, a complete comunication of that rule needs to take place. Yet we're looking here at a secret list of words. On top of it, the list is dynamic, so I cannot even learn by trial and error.

If you re-read my comments, you may notice that I was looking for clarification, not a contesting of the rules.
