play it safe and imagine you are addressing grade schoolers in their class room ;) you might still run afoul occasionally but looking at your join date no mod is going to jump on you if you are using the short form of richard in a name context. ;)
if something doesn't make sense ask like i did today and you'll get an explanation ;)

Uncle - I understand what you say, but my problem is that, in order to be able to observe a rule, I need first to understand it. For this to happen, a complete comunication of that rule needs to take place. Yet we're looking here at a secret list of words. On top of it, the list is dynamic, so I cannot even learn by trial and error.

If you re-read my comments, you may notice that I was looking for clarification, not a contesting of the rules.

Yes - I did read what "You" posted and I really believe that it has been clarified as much as it will be at this time (The issue has been asked and answered numerous times - IMO - actually more then enough) . . . No One is going to post a list of the words that are being censored and "BANNED" from use here on ECF . . . Given this, IMO - it would be best suited if "You" would - Just Use "Your" Own Common sense Of Decency and Decorum - and not use any word that "YOU" KNOW all to well will cause a problem for "YOU" . . . That includes such words as using the nickname for "Richard" and/or normal everyday slang words that some people take for granted in some circles of society . . . I absolutely know that people would never ever be able to use the term that is common in the UK for a cigarette when referring to "ME" ! ! ! NOT only would they be reported by "Me", I would have a field day with ECF for allowing it to be used on the forum (Just as I have done in the past about some other things that were posted here on ECF that were outright "Sexist" and/or "Homophobic") . . , So once again - THINK ! ! ! "YOU" already know what the words are and that should be avoided . . . Just Sayin' . . . ;)

I agree, but Retired already hinted that, "We'll most likely remove it in the future." So there. This is a new platform, work in progress, you know. We provide feedback and requests, ECF is responding... Everything is still fluid. Look on the bright side. Some things can't be changed because the platform doesn't support them, fine. Others are judgement calls. Hey, we got the pretty shading, the location and join date are back, the problem with conversations has been fixed. The forum is working. I would still prefer to have that orange supporting member badge turned into a ribbon and the user names placed above the avatar; I'm not a fan of the mood indicator thingy (it eats up real estate and provides no relevant information to anyone, really); and I'd rather return to the blue color scheme for the entire forum, but those are minor things--annoying but not lethal.

So I decided to be grateful for what we've got so far and just hope that someday, maybe, those other things will change, too. I'm picking my battles--and saying thanks to ECF for all their efforts to date.

God, give me grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.

Thanks for adding the less glaringly white background. Of course if I can go back to being able to stay on ECF for more than 15 minutes at a time I won't be getting nearly as much done around the house. :D

And thanks for getting the little vaping guy emoticon back again.

What part of "do not post anything that is not family friendly" is so difficult to understand? If you have to stop and think whether it's kosher or not, it's not kosher. It's that simple.

I am sorry to hear that my cognitive capabilities have disappointed you. However my question was not about the rule you quoted.

My question was about a specific word, and we both know that you know what exact word was that.

To clarify for other people here suspecting me of obvious mistakes such as naming specific body parts, the mystery word is synonym to "stupid" or "idiot" - which can be freely used here (when not addressed as an insult to other members). I was pretty surprised to see that this particular one was censored, as it does not have any additional foul connotations to the "approved" variants.

Norman, Ok
It's very difficult for a newbie to navigate through vocabulary restrictions that even the moderators have a hard time explaining.

They had no trouble explaining it where any sensible person could understand... if you wouldn't say it in front of children... then don't say it... it's simple

@caramel You're beating a dead horse now unnecessarily. The simplest way to explain it, is if the forum censors it, there's a reason. You know what you typed that got censored, either because it's completely offensive, and obvious, or if it's not obvious, there must be a historical reason why we put it in the filters (and it's certainly possible it happened long before the current staff was here). If you disagree, or want to understand better, best thing is to PM a mod or submit a ticket via Contact Us at the bottom of the forum page.

Let's put this matter to bed for now here though, and consider this closed for now, ok? :)

adblocker will remove it, both in ff and chrome ;)

problem solved!
I did install ad blocker, but haven't used it on the supp. members badge, because I do like knowing who supporting members are, and it's not a huge deal for me either way..... but I also would vote for it becoming a banner. I like those banners! But we need a purple one that I can earn!! lol

also am so grateful for the color separation now. But a light blue would be even better. But this is soooooooooo much better than it was!! thanks for all y'all are doing, and especially for listening to a bunch of our wants and preferences!!!
