This morning my 401 started to taste awful. I can't really describe it any other way. It's like nothing I've ever tasted before. I've read the a cleaning cycle will do this but I don't think I've had the cleaning cycle happen.

Anyways, I'm not really concerned with why but how to get rid of the bad taste. I tried a few different carts and even a brand new one. Still not better, so I dripped a couple drops on the wire wick. It's not a bad as before but not as good either. Still tastes pretty bad. :(

I'm tempted to start a new atomizer but wanted to see how long this one was going to last before dying. The only thing I do to maintain it is drain every week or so.

Anyone have any ideas? This thing is pretty foul and harsh tasting and makes me not want to use it.

It is most likely the primer. The seller primes the atomizer with the liquid of their choice and it takes a little while to wear off. It was about 40ish puffs for me and then it got better. Mine was primed with Coffee liquid! yuck! lol It will get better, just try to hang in there:)

But, I've been using this one for close to 3 weeks. It just started to get bad.The primer wasn't even close to this.

drop more juice on the atomizer and take some drags, do it repeatedly. if it's still there try soaking it in coke for a couple hours

I'll keep dripping on it and see how that works. I can see the Coke working but I'm not ready to try that just yet.

Thanks!

Oh, no! Not sure about that unless it is too dry. It sounds like you have it covered though.

Check and see if there are any loose fibers from the cart stuffing stuck to the atomizer. If so, pluck them out with some tweezers. This happens to me all the time, and is responsible for 75%+ of the foul taste.
This seems pretty plausible but there aren't any fibers stuck to the atomizer and it still tastes horrible.

It might be that you have partially carbonized liquid on the wick. Nobody's come up with a sure-fire method of cleaning the atomizers yet, but there are several suggestions.... I'm going to try putting the atomizers in my coffee filter, then running it through a cycle with vinegar water.... Works to get the deposits off my coffee pot's coil, maybe will work with the atomizers....

Just a warning, though, before you try - this HAS NOT BEEN TESTED!

i always got like a pepper taste from my one atomizer, i boiled it in water for a good 3 mins and its like new. It might sound weird but stop vaping for a day after you get that terrible taste, your mind sub consciously remembers the taste so for me (hopefully not for you) I went on analogs for a day to get the terrible pepper taste out of my mouth, then after my atomizer was dried out and ready to go, i was back to vaping nice marlboro taste again. Initially i tried another atomizer right after my first one went "peppery" and the taste was still there, I thought both were bad, but after taking the day off vaping I seemed to "forget" the taste of bad atomizer lol. Even vaping while im posting now brings the pepper flavor back Hahah.

If you used the same battery on the new battery then it would still have the same taste as the vapour gets into the battery as well.
If you have had a cleaning cycle or "self destruct" as i call it then you might as well throw it away and buy some new ones as that taste never really goes away. Also 3 weeks is actually good going for an Atomiser. Some of mine only lasted a week.
The sure way to avoid the cleaning cycle is to get a usb passthrough then there is NO cleaning cycle. The cleaning cycle is done by the Battery after "x" amount of puffs. It cannot distinguish a new Atomiser from an old one so you could put a new Atomiser on an old battery and get the cleaning cycle happen after an hour !! It's happened to me. :(
