I've had to replace my credit card twice in the last 3 weeks. Because it is a Bank of America card, I started using ShopSafe after it happened the first time.

The second time it happened a ShopSafe number was used and there were only 2 possible vendors it could have been. One I won't name, because no one else has, and they are not as well known. The other was ecigexpress. Even so, I don't blame ecigexpress but instead the credit card processor they are using. I've never allowed any of these sites to save my card information.

It turns out that ShopSafe was much more helpful to BOA than it was to me. There were 3 attempted fraudulent charges, 2 were immediately declined I assume because of the $40.00 limit on this card number, the 3rd was only for $1. I still have to wait once again for a new credit card despite the fact that my real number was not stolen.

I use shop Safe as well. The best thing about it is that even if they do get your number it is of no use to them. I did not know that you had to get a card replaced because of an attempt at using the Shop Safe number. I have used it for years and never even had anyone attempt to use it. The number is only good for the vendor that you originally used it for and the limit that you set.

The $1.00 charge was the first one on my card also, I guess they do this to see if it will work ?

Exactly! They Phish around with tiny purchases to see if they got the number right. The first time my real number was stolen, they made a purchase for $5 at Best Buy. BOA caught it right away and called me.

Unfortunately having been here awhile this is not the first go round we have seen of this in ecigland or these kind of threads. Mad Vapes had countless threads written up on them last year and its happened to other vendors as well in the time that I have been here. Sorry to see it happening again with yet another vendor's site. Makes it not so much fun to shop anymore.

After my 5 fraudulent charges last week, I got a email saying I had a charge on my paypal that I didnt make.
It had a link to click if you wanted to file a claim did not click on it, I guess it would have asked all my info.
Posting here because some people use paypal with the chinese sites, just a heads up.

Are you basing your allegation because of a new website/password reset?

Sdh, no, I'm basing it on a number of reasons. As I said the card was only about 3 weeks old, and I only used it to order from those two sites. When it comes down to two sites, and one was not working for a day or two then requires all members to reset passwords, that site would be my guess. I have ordered things online for years (with other cards, or course) and have never, I repeat never, had any problems with identity theft or the likes.

I never said, "ECX ripped me off or caused me to get ripped off," I was just trying to see if anyone else had a similar experience and/or try to help someone else avoid having that happen to them.

From what my bank explained to me, you are absolutely correct. The charge against my card was for 26 cents, and the bank said the offender typically runs a very small charge just to test the card to see if it works. If my bank had not caught the error when they did, there is no doubt in my mind more charges would have followed.

Thanks to everyone who replied. And best of luck to all of you who have had similar experiences but was not as lucky as I was and got hit pretty hard. This was definitely an eye opener for me, and with as much as I would hate to do it I think I will use a prepaid card from now on.

And, as I've already mentioned, I'm pretty stocked up as far as supplies goes, so I shouldn't have to order anything for a long while. Get my VG at Wal-Mart and barely ever touch this giant bottle of PG I ordered recently.

The nic base is about the only thing that may need replentished in the next year or so. Flavors eventually as well, but if I run out of my usuals, it may give me an excuse to actually use some of these others I have been sitting on forever and barely touched yet!

I understand now. Thanks for the heads up...:)

My card was compromised today.

I got this separate card SPECIFICALLY for use with online ecig related purchases, not wanting to use my regular credit card.

Yet, it is compromised. LOL

I have only used it at the following places (I have a list of every single transaction ever made on it, because it is still relatively brand new), so it really does look like a CC processor compromise and having nothing to do with vendors specifically:

the Vapor Room
Wizard Labs
Copper Creek
Super T Manufacturing
www.electroniccigarettesfast

I also do not know how I will handle purchasing ecig stuff going forward. Since this was a special Visa i got from my bank ONLY for online ecig purchases. :(

The fraud services said that the safest way to purhase anything online is w/Paypal. Since Paypal won't take ecig companies, I guess that leaves me with a pre-paid visa or disposable. Unfortunately, that adds $$ to each purchase, since it costs $$ to buy the card and also I think each time you reload the card?

What would really be great, since it is the CC processor and not the vendors themselves causing this, if somebody could put a list together and see if the same CC processor is involved. Has anyone done this?
