Remember, don't try this at home boys and girls...

18650 Ultrafire "3000mAh" explosion - YouTube

Yes this is an explosion. However that would never happen under normal operating circumstances. You have to try and force an explosion like that by purposefully using it in an improper way.

Yes, these are getting hot and melting the plastic and burning things around them, but they are NOT exploding. See the first link you posted to see the difference.

Actually, no. Theres unfortunately quite a few mods on the market with NO venting, and many more have insufficient venting. If batteries in these mods vent, quickly becomes a pipe bomb.

Your ignorance is truly amazing. Baditude did not pass on information because he read it somewhere on the internet, in fact, he showed pictures of batteries of his that vented. I also had a near catastrophe with lion batteries in my mechanical mod.

Your amazement is subjective and historically speaking is very early achieved, as your jaw dropped just from his post. and your use of the word ignorance is based upon the assumption that I didn't know he had battery issues... Furthermore, venting=exploding is incorrect.

You don't make sense to me. If you are afraid of e cigarettes because they contain lithium ion batteries then are you also afraid of lithium ion batteries? If you are, then are you afraid phones and mobile devices? Are you saying I need to be afraid of e cigarettes or lithium ion batteries? Is my phone going to "explode" or something?

Technically any lithium ion battery can explode if your use of the word explode includes any kind of venting or incineration... I feel as though you are using the idea of being technically right to lead to a conclusion that is wrong. That is the subjective notion that e cigarettes are dangerous explosive devices.

If you want to continue to believe that they are dangerous explosive devices but define that as as dangerous and explosive as a phone then be my guest but it's a poor explanation that should be called a load of horse poo.

In order to cause the mod to explode the battery would have to be able to create enough pressure inside the mod to rupture the container. To do that would require a very significant expansion of gases. While a battery venting and increase the internal pressure of a sealed mod, I highly doubt that would be enough to cause a breach of the housing in such a way to actually explode.

My jaw dropped from the ignorance of your post. Im not going to continue this conversation. Go read the FAQs on this forum or any flashlite hobbyist forum for the safety of you and others

That is truly okay, fore I know that no one ever losses an argument on the internet. Hopefully you were able to absorb the concept of #1 a subjective pretense, #2 out smarting yourself by being technically right to justify implying something that is wrong. I know I've got a long history of doing both in my life and that's why I am not ignorant to both #1 and #2.

I'm not going to leave my cell phone, ipod or Kindle in a closed car in the summer sun either.

An insulated lunch bag in the trunk might be OK.

Here in FL, that would be a good idea. I've heard of people actually getting into a hot car during July and August down here and grabbing their steering wheels resulting in burns.
