I'm currently starting my third try vaping.
3 years ago, I bought a EGO kit from one of the mall type kiosks that popped up about that time. The liquid I had make me choke and cough uncontrollably.

Found some better juice, really cut down the coughing. Didn't give me enough uumph to quit the cigs.

One year later, bought a variable volt EGO with a cartomizer. Bought two actually. My g/f who is now my wife, quit cigs immediatly and never looked back. 3 months later, she stopped vaping as well.

I just felt like I never had enough nicotene from either of these methods to put them down. I'm a stress smoker, and I stress ALOT. When the need for a smoke hits me, I need instant gratification. Not sitting around for 10-15 minutes puffing an ecig, hoping I can get enough nic in my blood to calm me down.

Last week, I picked up a panzer mech mod and a tugboat atty.

Got it second hand. Did my research before buying it and thought, this thing hits hard enough to give me what I need.

Bought all the things I needed to safely run a mech (lots of reading on here helped, as well as a really cool owner in a local shop)

This setup was currently running at .8 ohms on a good battery. Got it loaded up with the juice that I've always enjoyed from Good Life Vapor and was still coughing and choking some. After a few days of this, I decided to back it down to just one coil.

I made my own coil, currently running about 1.4 ohms. Hits a bit better now, still doesn't really satisfy my need for nic unless I'm constantly puffing on it. Only an occasional light single cough. Also running both ait holes open in the tugboat. I guess I kinda like the airy hit for now? Seems easier to vape at this point.

I have 12mg juice on hand. That what was recommended to me before and that is what I had left over from a couple years ago. Was told that when ppl go mech, they usually cut their nic levels.

I'm wondering if I need to RAISE my nic levels.

Will a higher nic level make me cough more?

I'm kinda at a loss here, I really really need to put down the analog smoke. I need to make this work somehow and would love it if someone could push me in the right direction.

Any guidence here is much appreciated.

When I first started I used to cough alot for a week or 2 but after that I got used to it. If you want a better throat hit I suggest you try an e juice with more PG and less VG in it. Most juices are 50 50 but if u want a harsher hit try getting a custom blend online or at a local store if u can. I like to get 80% pg and 20% vg. Great throat hit but it does not produce as big of a vapor cloud because of reduced vg. I dont care about clouds I just want a good vape. Hope this helps

Also when I first started I only did lung inhales because I was used to cigarettes. With vapor the nicotine gets absorbed through your mouth, throat, and nose. Try holding smoke in your mouth/throat for a few seconds so u can absorb more. Then inhale through lungs then blow out. I prefer to blow out through the nose instead for a little bit extra kick. Once I started doing this I would hiccup on my first hit every time.... love it

Well first of all you must understand that the difference in vape to smoke... IT WILL TAKE LONGER to be absorbed into the blood system, that is just the nature of it.

now what you can do to help increase that that rate of absorbtion, is to understand that Nic in vapor is far better absorbed via the wet membranes of the mouth and the nose, and not the lungs. This is because the molecules of vapor are bigger than smoke, so they dont penetrate as deeply in your lungs bronchia as smoke does (a far finer particle). To get the most out of each vape, you need to take it in slowly, hold it in your mouth, if you wish shallow lung hit, and then a slow exhale through your nose. The first month or so without cigs is the roughest, because not only is your body learning to deal with the change in Nic delivery, but you are also going to have some withdraw from all the other crud in cigs.

Some additional reading;
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/337017-inhalation-technique-e-cigarette.html

Also things to consider, that old bottle of 12mg, if not properly stored... may have lost a some of its potency.

You can go up to 18 or 24mg if you want, but most people, even hardcore ex-smokers will tell you that for them such nic levels in a dripper for very long causes them sleeplessness and other issues.

I guess my point is you still have the fresh gunk of analogs in you. Not having any experience with mechs, I dunno - but I just got a Kayfun, and my usual juice made me hack a bit until I got used to the bigger clouds, and more saturated vape.

Venom (cinnamon menthol) makes me cough on anything at any nic level, as does anything with menthol in it. Or strong fruit.

Hi Cern :) good questions! Coughing has to do with your coil usually in my experience for chain vaping try and push your coil deeper into your cotton cloud and have your air holes higher than your coil. Ultimately try different configurations as well such as a loose wrapped dual coil setup on any good wicking material. You need to have a fulfilling vape before you can decide what nicotine level is right for you. Goto a local vape shop and tell them what you are experiencing and ask if they can give examples of a build with a ton of smoke that is cooler on your throat. Then as you get the nicotine right even if you increase have to increase it up to 24, you will be able to build a warmer coil and back the nicotine down in a week or so. Effectively fooling your body and keeping the enjoyment level :) have fun! And get the experience to be enjoyable. Thats what will help you quit for good :D

Ok, considering you are running 1.4 ohms that will help with the coughing, IMHO. I coughed like a fool when i first sub-ohm'd. but onto your question about nic levels, how many Pack-A-Day of analogs are you? A tug boat or any drip atty you can typically use a lower level. I went from 36mg, to 12 when i switched from a 'standard' tank Aspire Nat. to a genesis style then down to 6mg when i went to a TOBH Atty. that was my choice. The big this is how many analogs are you on without vaping. Now, i will prolly be corrected and thats fine. but on average a pack a dayer shld start with 18mg. I was a 4 pack a dayer, so i started high. As for you, tell us how man packs a day please. Then we MAY be able to help. Also, i suggest either flavorless or a tobacco flavor to start. It makes the transition easier.

Cern, keep this in mind. The higher the nic level of the juice the faster you will absorb it and the quicker it hits. You would also need to vape less in order to stop the levels in your blood from rising higher and making you sick. the higher the nic level the more "throat hit" a juice will have as well.

In a study by Dr. Farsalinos it was found that to get close to the absorption rate from analogs one would have to vape somewhere around 56mg/ml juice. Most vapers would not find this enjoyable at all. Perhaps consider trying 24 or 36mg nic and only hit that for a few minutes (like smoking an analog) and then switch to a much lower level juice (or even 0mg) to take care of any additional need to vape until the next craving hits.

I found that it took a couple of weeks without an analog to settle in to vaping and stop chain vaping. YMMV.

I have smoked 1 pack of Marlboro Green Full Flavor for years. Occasionally a little more than a pack. Smoking a cig is a 20-30 second thing for me. I never sit around and 'relax' and smoke leisurely.

I enjoy vaping (shamrock fairy - absinthe flavor) (shivering zebra - spearmint tic tic) (925 - coffee) (blueberry morning - blueberry and cream flavor) have all these in 12mg. If someone made a 12 y/o scotch whiskey flavor, I'd probably love it too.

I tried tobacco flavors long ago and hated them with a passion. I dont really care for very sweet vapes.

It sounds like the throat hit is whats making you cough, as your stated Nic levels that you are vaping aren't high at all. Liquids are usually a blend of PG and VG plus nicotine and flavors. I found when I first started vaping that the juices with high VG were much smoother on my throat. I was even using 100% VG juices from Johnsons Creek. They are not cheap but they are a premium juice. They also have a return policy if you want to send them back. One caveat though, VG gums up the coils faster than PG. PG = More throat hit......VG = Smoother throat Hit.

right there is your main problem...... you are/were a total fiend.

Even at 36mg you arent going to get your "fix" fast enough, to make up for the way you used to smoke. To get anything stronger than 36mg you are going to have to DIY, and MOST people would tell you that anything over 36mg is really playing with fire.

I hate to say it.. cause some might hate me saying it here, but you might need to slowly transistion from smoking to vaping. Keep a journal... record your smokes, time of day, and each day or every other day, cut out 1 cig and replace it with vaping. I had to do this, start my day off with vaping, until i couldnt stand it anymore, then have a cig, then back to vaping as a maintaince thing, then back to a cig... and then only vaping after dinner till bedtime. Not the way most people do it, but it was the only way that was going to work for me, with my 40-50 a day hand rolled non filtered cigs, that i would finish in a minute or so. Yes I was a fiend too.

to ecf cern. So glad you are here and giving vaping another try. I've been told "third times the charm".

I did both for a good while and just kept on cutting back on real cigarettes until it got to the point where I just loved the vaping more and quit with no problems or anxiety. I couldn't believe how bad the cigarettes started tasting and I hope I never forget my last nasty one. Vaping has improved and you have better equipment now so that has got to help. Finding a good juice is the key now. While you are trying different things, here is a link that you can find some good deals. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/pay-forward-pif/418767-deals-steals-232.html

As far as being pushed in the right direction. . . ecf is quite an awesome support group. :sneaky: Always someone here for you. You must have the desire to quit or you would not keep trying. What would it hurt to try weening yourself off like I accidentally did. I had already given up on trying to quit. Vaping is the only thing that ever worked for me and I tried everything known to man. It could just be that this is the right time for you to give it your best try. Good luck to you and I look forward to reading about your success.
