Frustrated with regulated mods !

I don't know or understand all the science parts, but I believe you when you describe your experience.

I have and use the Pico with Melo 3 mini that came as a kit. I am currently using the .3 coils in my tanks. I also have several different Provari (this is where the my mod can beat up your mod comes in) that I use with a Nauti X and 1.8 coils. Mostly I use the Radius because I like the box style, but the tube mods are good too.

I started with a Pico kit, but when I got my first Provari, I was able to tell the difference between them with the same tank, same juice. The Provari was much better, but you run into limits on the power the older Provari 2.5 can deliver. At the time, I was using Triton Mini tanks with 1.2 or 1.8 coils because the Nauti X hadn't been released yet.

I still use the Pico kit because I have a couple of juices I like that really sing in the Melo 3 tank, and they work well enough with the Pico that it is easier to deal with the short span of battery life and tank filling with the sub ohm set. If you aren't stuck with one juice, maybe you can experiment and find one that works well with your Pico kit and let that be your travel kit so the mech can stay at home.

confession time: for short trips in the car, I still like my Blu Plus kits. Not the greatest vape, but very purse and pocket friendly. I still have trouble driving without a "cig" between my fingers on the wheel.

If you can get verified, you might be able to pick up a Provari in the classifieds section on ECF. There are other mods and tanks in there from time to time as well. If you know any vapers IRL, you might see if they will let you test your tank on their mods to see how it works for you.

I've done the same. I have another Buddha Mini tank at 1.6Ω that's on a Provari 2.5, I switch it to the Pico and match voltage, there is a bit of a difference. Not enough to claim one is better than the other, but it is there.

And I often go out for errands with an EVOD.

I love it for home use.
But don’t want to lug it around when I go out.
Still searching for a pocket portable.
Going to try different coils in my eLeaf Pico.
Might get an Hcigar Square Box mod.

OOOH you have a hammer, have you tested the voltage drop on that unit?

Double check you math as you may be losing .5V or more from internal resistance of the device.
So 4.2V-.5v = 3.7V or less at the atty.
Test for voltage at the Pos/Neg of your atty. (Use a DMM)
Test you battery outside of the device.
Subtract the two.
That is your voltage drop.

ETA: IMO, its best not to choose devices based upon appearance.

I use it because I get the best taste and flavor on it.

The unit has flaws. It will deliver less voltage than other devices.

Which is all well and good, it's awesome you like it, but when switching to a regulated device you will need to take certain things into consideration (like voltage drop) if your going after a similar vape.

The calculation for your voltage drop will help find your particular sweet spot on that Pico.

Very Interesting post here, read all 4 pages. I did notice the mention of the Eleaf Pico and want to mention the Eleaf Pico 25 that now holds a 25 mm tank. I'm using it with a Griffin 25 mini tank which is a nice combination. I was never able to use SS coils with the older Pico but the Pico 25 handles the very well, many more functions in the menu.

Good chance you won't match the vape quality of your Hammer at any wattage on the Pico, as you can tell the difference. For those who can't feel the difference, they are the lucky ones, as most anything will work. In terms of advice, a vaper who hasn't had the smooth pull of a mech can't be of much help.

You may find a different, higher wattage build suits the Pico. In the meantime, a smaller lighter tube mech with good locking ability may be your best way to match that vape with better portability. Good luck!

No, not really, but some folks do it.
I wouldn't.

If the insulator in the head burns, cracks, splits, tears or otherwise stops doing its job, you won't know until it is already a problem.
With mass produced heads there is always a chance of getting a dud / shorted one right outa the box.

Using a power device with at least basic protections is always a good idea when using 'drop in', 'factory made', 'blister pack', replaceable head type delivery devices.
