I have had several of my non-smoking friends ask me if I ever thought that I would eventually wean myself off of nicotine and stop vaping. After giving it some thought, I have decided, Probably not. My reasoning is this. I am a lot older than most of you on this forum. I smoked for 46 years, and I enjoyed it every year, although I knew that it was ruining my health. I have been analog free for over a year now, and have reduced my nicotine levels from 36mg to 18mg and sometimes 12mg. But I think that purely for emotional needs if nothing else, I will continue to vape even if I go to 0mg.
Just wondering what are others plans for the future? Are your plans to eventually quit altogether, or not?

Ditto here, after my 45 years smoking 2 PaD! Chances are that my last breath will be flavorful and vapor heavy. As to nic level... who cares?!?! thumbsup.gif

I didn't smoke for very long myself, give or take 8 years. However, I did LOVE my habit. I came to terms with the fact I loved smoking when trying to figure out how in the hell I was going to quit. I really love vaping even more so I don't see myself stopping. My mom and brother want to completely stop but I'm gonna keep on vaping. Sure we don't know the long term effects but whatever they are simply cannot be as bad as smoking. I'm content with taking that risk.

Some days I drink decaf...

Some days, I drink 5 cups of caffeinated.

Some days I drink Roma (chickory) or tea.

In my opinion, vaping creates these options for us in the nicotine sector. I mean, some days I have caffeinated coffee, and some days I don't but nearly everyday I drink a warm beverage of some sort.

Now, with vaping I see it sort of the same way, with cigarettes I never really had the choice - I SMOKED, end of story. But with vaping, and with great companies like Nhaler.com and lonewolfe-smokes.com beginning to offer 'Non-Tobacco Based Herbal Vapors', a whole new world of possibilities is beginning to open up...

Personally, I don't if I'll drop the nic or vaping habit completely. But I do know as advances in herbal vaping continue, I'll mix it up the same way I do with coffee and tea.

My goal is to stop nic intake progressively. Giving myself a window of 5 years. 18mg this year, 11mg the next and so on until i can do with 0 nic. I find it easier to reduce the nic level when vaping compare to when i was smoking analogs. I started out vaping at 24mg and manage to reduce to 18mg within 3 months.

In regards to stop vaping altogether, i'll see about that when i'm able to vape without nic. Still believe we are meant to breathe in fresh air. Nothing beats that.

At this moment in time I'm just happy to be off the analogues, something I had tried and failed many times. This time though, with vaping, I'm not stressed or cranky or constantly on edge but I feel chilled, relaxed and healthier. I do want to reduce my nic level and if I get down to zero then great but if I don't then that's ok too.
I know what triggered me to start smoking again when my last attempts failed so I'd probably keep some higher nic around just in case but I don't see myself stopping vaping, I enjoy it too much and with all the yummy flavours it's doing great for my diet too, I don't have to eat chocolate to get my chocolate fix :p

I also have panic disorder and generalized anxiety with depression. I've gone from 18mg down to about 3-6mg in 6 months. For me, I think it's all about the hand to mouth habit that relaxes me, not necessarily the nic. Eventually I'll be 0 nic, but I don't plan on stopping vaping. I seems to fill some kind of void.

I have agoraphobia with panic attacks and the nicotine calms me when I go somewhere. I've had it since my late 20's and don't think it's going away any time soon. So I'll probably be vaping for the rest of my life. :p I think it's a Godsend.

I definitely look at vaping as a means to an end -- namely, to not be hooked on anything. I've quit analogs before by using gum, but I never intended to use gum forever, and I feel the same way about vaping. I'm giving myself a year to get completely free. After that, I'll give away most of my gear and maybe keep one PV and some juice stashed away somewhere for special occasions, the same way I would treat a cigar when I smoked 'logs.

I would not smoke or vape in front of kids, and I've got kids of my own, plus nieces and nephews. With smoking, there were lots of times where I had to do without, and it was painful. With vaping, I can at least duck into a bathroom or something (which I couldn't do with 'logs), so it's some improvement. But it's still a bit of a hassle and there are times (long car journeys) where I simply cannot vape and have to go through the pains of withdrawal. The only complete cure for this is to quit entirely.

I doubt I'll ever see the end of my vaping days... I always enjoyed smoking (except for the taste, smell, and general nastiness of it all) and even prior to smoking when I was younger, I was always a gum/pen chewer, so I think that the hand to mouth thing will always be with me.

That and my dentist tells me that my VP is far better for my health (from his POV anyway) than living with a stick of gum in my mouth.

As far as the nic, we'll have to see where time takes it; I may hit the point of not caring about the nic anymore, but for the time being I <3 my 18mg

Nope, My wife and I both enjoyed smoking but health wise and finacially it was killing us. Once we're back on our feet finacially we'll buy more stuff to stockpile but for now we love our PVs and the benefits that comes with it. I love nicotine and the relaxation of it and my wife's anxiety is what drove her to smoke in the first place. So we're in this for life.

there are probably more old people here than you think :) I'm old. my plan is to NEVER quit! I also have no kids to care for me so I don't really want to live to be real old..... the reason I started vaping was $$$$$ only! I still smoke 2 cigs a day and as long as I can hold it to 2 and not start going up I plan to smoke those 2 cigs forever too. kinda like the 100yr old ladies who take a shot of whiskey before bed :)

Glad to know I'm not the only one. Since nicotine may even have health benefits for someone over 50, and I enjoy the flavor and the relaxation of nicotine, I have no plans to quit. I may change my mind in 20 years, but for now I am happy with vaping.

I do believe nicotine has benefits.......

I've been smoking for 33 years and really enjoyed it. Tried to quit several times, going cold turkey, patches, gum, Zyban and hypnosis. Started vaping 2.5 years ago with the intent of cutting down on analogs. That worked until I eventually quit analogs altogether. Since I've vaped exclusively I cut down my nic from 18mg to 8mg. I was planning to go 0mg eventually, but as I keep hearing of the benefits of nicotine I guess i will have do more research and see if I'm going to cut it all out. As far as stopping vaping, I don't plan to do it, but then I really did not plan on quitting analogs either.

I'm 55 and started smoking at 14. But during this time I quit for 5 years and for 7 years. Both times I quit for the benefit of my loved ones. I have been single for two years and have met a lady. Once again I have stopped smoking. But fortunately this time I will simply just vape 100% of the time. Whether I ever quit vaping is TBD.

Never say never.
