I have not used anything other then my G-tank since i got it.. Great device only maintenance is a occasional burn and o-ring if i use certain juice.. I see all the modifications i even have the ghost setup, But its been working so i just vape and leave it alone.

It was worth the wait and want to thank Dan again.

When your get your wick made and a coil in place and actually get some vapor going, how long does it take to get rid of the nasty metal, burnt taste. Does it mean it isn't put together right or that it needs a break in? I'm finally getting in to putting my GTUS to use and it's a huge learning curve for me. Anyone have a link to a video that can show me how to measure the ohm?

Thanks Dan for the awesome co-op. I got caught up in life and forgot to make it back to this.

Thank you. I watched that video before, but I actually wanted to know how do I use a voltmeter or something to tell what ohms i ended up at.. does that make sense? Is it necessary. I'm wrapping it 6 times but still wandering if it's not right. Last night when I tried a dry burn on the PV it made flames instead of just the coil turning red (that was a little scary). I think I had 7 wraps and then I took the coil off, rewrapped it (6), and then no flame but also very little vapor and the taste is bad.

Ream out your air holes with a straightened paperclip to make sure they're not clogged with debris. Position the air hole on the cap piece so that it's directly in front of your wick rather than one of the posts. Try a dry burn at a low voltage and observe if any part of the coil starts to glow before the rest of the coil. If so, you have a hot spot, which makes for the horrible vape you described. Try slightly moving that section of the coil or slightly twisting your wick to eliminate hot spots.

With the Gtank all assembled but not yet on a device, check the resistance at the 510 connector one lead on the positive, the other on the threads with the multimeter set to 200ohms. Take this reading and subtract the amount you get when just touching the leads to each other (the meter's internal resistance).

Thank you both. Hopefully I can get a battery to fit in my weirdo voltmeter or I'll go get me one. I took it apart again and did the coil again with 5 wraps and it makes more vapor but again the bad taste. Every time I most definitely have a hot spot on the coil that runs from the tall post. I'll try all of those suggestions once I get back from taking Batman to load up on junk.

When doing a 'dry burn' to check the coil, if just the lead from the positive screw to the coil is lighting up - you definitely have a short. Start with the 1st coil wrap below the 'glowing one' or 'glowing lead' and move it slightly up or down. If you can't adjust the coil wraps to get them all glowing - then likely the wick isn't oxidized properly. At least that's what I learned when making my first wicks/coils.

I just took it apart and tried it again. Cleaned out all the air holes and lined the one up right in line with the wick and not the screws. No glowing red this time, but nothing glowing just an even heat up. I didn't turn the voltage up much; maybe I should try that again. It's making semi decent vapor but again bad taste. I don't think I have it wicking properly. Seems to me it should be oxidized well because I gave it a good torching but I may try that again. I cut off some of the wick to get a better fit on the upper part also and it all fits and looks better, so I think I'm getting closer. Is there suppose to be a plastic tube in the hole that the wick goes in to; does it have to be there and what is that shortest little metal piece for, the little short collar? Thanks!!

The plastic tube doesn't have to be there. It was originally intended to insulate the wick from touching the metal, but with a properly oxidized wick it's not an issue and without the insulator you can make a larger wick. That little collar was supposed to be an eGo plinth, but it was not threaded deep enough so the only real function it could serve is as a stand

What mesh (325, 400, 500) and what size did you roll? Was it a tight fit? I've found a 25mm wide piece of 325 works well. For me it wicked better than 35mm of 400. Also a tight fit can interfere with wicking. Air has to get back into the tank for proper wicking and if the wick is too tight that doesn't happen.

400 mesh, 32 gauge kanthal. I originally cut it 35 x 35 mm but have trimmed a few mm off. The top piece is sliding on the wick easily now without snagging it. I'm using VG juice with approx 6% distilled water. I'm going to re-roll wicks this weekend and experiment to see if I can work that out. I feel like it's just on the verge of working. Im going to cut this wick down and see if I can get something decent as a dripper before I continue with the tank, and I also have a juice order for some flavors as for more than a year I've used my own mix and might need something else to compare to.. perhaps my juice is not so good for this set up. I guess I'll consider also ordering the 325 mesh.

With VG you may need a 325 mesh or a thinner wick. If you go with a thinner wick just make sure you don't flood the bottom chamber by making it to thin. Some guys seem to have good results with VG but I've had issues with it myself with both 325 and 400. However I did not play with it enough to figure it out.

How to make a thinner wick, instead of rolling an entire new wick just unroll little bit of the existing 1 and cut it off.

I went ahead and cut the wick down for a dripper just to be sure I was on the right track. I found a bottle of perique blackberry from Honeyville that's been sitting in my cabinet for a while and it's pretty awesome, but I only have a few mL. My juice is not so good. I think you guys are very right about the wick and that's going to take some practice. Thank you all very much for the input. I'll update once I'm able to experiment with the wick some more.

i didn't have success with high VG and a 400 wick or even a 325 wick. I currently using 25mm of 325 and it's work fine w/ a 70/30 to 50/50 pg/vg mix. Like bstedt said, if you don't have 325 try less of the 400 rolled loosely w/o a big center hole that could act like a straw an maybe lead to flooding.

I got bored and broke out the dremel and polishing bits. Wow does it take a lot of time to get a nice polish on SS wit a small dremel. I broke down and went to the hardware store and got some actual compound for SS and it went a little better. It shines nice but still has flaws. Just real hard to get a good finish with a small dremel bit. Now I may just have to go get a wheel for my bench grinder as I really like the polished look and I have two more to work on.

I found that the tool marks in the lower piece really don't polish out because of how deep they are but actually look nice polished.

My Jack Daniels flavor really hangs in the GTUS even after a thorough cleaning..... Luckily a Jack Daniels and RY4 mix aren't bad....

I just had a thought, I will have to mix my JD flavor with my cola flavor =] Who says you can't enjoy a good sour mash at work....
