I'm using cinnamon danish... not red hots! Very little cinnamon...
Paper trick:

Thank you. I watched that video before, but I actually wanted to know how do I use a voltmeter or something to tell what ohms i ended up at.. does that make sense? Is it necessary. I'm wrapping it 6 times but still wandering if it's not right. Last night when I tried a dry burn on the PV it made flames instead of just the coil turning red (that was a little scary). I think I had 7 wraps and then I took the coil off, rewrapped it (6), and then no flame but also very little vapor and the taste is bad.
Thank you both. Hopefully I can get a battery to fit in my weirdo voltmeter or I'll go get me one. I took it apart again and did the coil again with 5 wraps and it makes more vapor but again the bad taste. Every time I most definitely have a hot spot on the coil that runs from the tall post. I'll try all of those suggestions once I get back from taking Batman to load up on junk.
I just took it apart and tried it again. Cleaned out all the air holes and lined the one up right in line with the wick and not the screws. No glowing red this time, but nothing glowing just an even heat up. I didn't turn the voltage up much; maybe I should try that again. It's making semi decent vapor but again bad taste. I don't think I have it wicking properly. Seems to me it should be oxidized well because I gave it a good torching but I may try that again. I cut off some of the wick to get a better fit on the upper part also and it all fits and looks better, so I think I'm getting closer. Is there suppose to be a plastic tube in the hole that the wick goes in to; does it have to be there and what is that shortest little metal piece for, the little short collar? Thanks!!
