YMMV.... I have found that the tighter I roll the wick the better =] Looks like there is no exact science just what works best for your particular setup.

I wanted to try the 400 mesh again so I rolled up a 35mm wide piece as tight as I possibly could and it is working good. Doesn't wick quite as much as my 320 wick but still works very well.

edit: I will also add that now that my 3ml tank has my O-ring broken in, my 5ml tank works just fine. I have been using it since last night without any slippage.

Got some of the kinks out of my unit. I'm in love. Now I just need to figure out how to make a hv coil and wick. Obviously higher resistant coil and a slightly thicker wick. One thing I learned about making the wick is to not compress the mesh to much.

Like they always say practice, practice, practice.

Couldn't have said it any better bstedh...these GTUS's just seem to have their own little personalities :D...I also like the 320 but I find the flavour is better on the 400 and yup, as tight as you can roll it...btw, and sorry to the poster if this has been mentioned already...for those of you who have tossed the upper and lower wick bushings (and in my case even bored out the mid section to 3mm)...here's my set-up...45mm x 45mm of 400, temper then...2-3 wraps of pipe thread teflon tape on the bottom 3mm of wick and again where the wick goes through the mid...no more pi$$ing about with shorting, creates a nice seal around the wick to negate the "flood" and the best part, Teflon tape is food safe and does not burn (at least no where near the temps we're at anyway)...grab a roll at Lowe's for $1.50

Nice Dan, also for those having issues with tank creep...pick up some 1/2" O.D. ss wave washers at any good hardware store...place it on top of the tank then screw on the outer. The wave washer is like a flat spring and compresses the tank down where it belongs and does nothing to the air flow...works great

Thanks Dan. I PM'ed you a while back about sending me an extra positive screw for my first G-tank but haven't heard back. Due to unforeseen events I can't afford to buy 100 from McMaster Carr and justify the shipping. I can however afford to send you a couple of bucks by snail mail if you have any extra. It's kind of embarrassing for me to ask but what the hell, I guess I'm not the only person down on their luck these days. I know you're busy, so I apologize for bothering you.

@Quigs: Good idea on the washer, I saw your post about that before. Will be using that if the extra o-ring that Dan is sending doesn't work.

Oh almost forgot,
I got a package in from McMaster Carr (400 7/16OD x 5/16ID orings) so you will recieve both a 1/2" oring and a 7/16" oring. This way you can use which ever works best for you.

The hardware store by me carries stainless 0/80 hardware. If you need some let me know I can send them to you.

Hey, that would be great! I checked at Lowes an HD and the ACE here isn't restocking like they did in times past. The store looks bare, like they're going under. I bought the last of their M 1.5 nuts and washers last year for my SGv3's and they haven't stocked those again. Sending PM.

I had lost one of the plastic washers for the connector during one of my cleanings and I just found it under the edge of one of the carpets in a different room. Must have stuck to the bottom of a foot....

So I just thought I would re-post that if you need to, you can make replacements by cutting them out of a carto condoms. =] I cut my replacement out of the side of one and other than having to deal with the curl factor it worked great.

Just did a fill, thought I'd toss up a visual aid to the Teflon tape thing...

You can just barely see the Teflon on the bottom of the wick in the base well...
