Hey everyone. Im in the market for a tank and im considering the ammit or the merlin mini. Not looking for a mtl tank but something like a tight draw or a restrictive lung hit. Would the ammit be good for a restrictive lung hit?
I own the Ammit. I would not suggest it for a tight restrictive draw. You will get whistling. At least with mine if you close the afc more than half way the noise is unbearable. Fortunately for me I enjoy it 3/4 open. It is still a bit restrictive which I like. Even wide open it is still a bit restrictive but only a bit. Wide open it is still far more restrictive that some of the cloud tanks I own like the Griffin Plus or the Smok TF-RDTA to name two. I do like the Ammit and I enjoy several single coil tanks. It is not without its negatives. I have never been able to completely prevent it from leaking just a little from the afc. It also is impossible to get it to sort out the bubbles that form at the juice control without a little help. I find myself leaning the tank to clear the bubbles often so that it wicks properly. If you are considering this tank these are things you should know.Hey everyone. Im in the market for a tank and im considering the ammit or the merlin mini. Bubble problem has nothing to do with the way one wick nor the wicking material . It is due to the designed size of the chamber and glass tank. If the gap between the two is too narrow, bubble get stuck at the JFC, the matter become worse with high VG ejuice.
It is a real frustrating issue, for me and for majority of us, I believe.
I tried that wicking method using cotton (I never have used rayon) and I got massive leaking. I have tried several methods but in the end just thinning the tails and fluffing them then cutting even to the bottom of the juice well seems to work best for me. I have tried with several popular brands of cotton. This give me only slight leaking from the afc sometimes but more like sweating liquid than running. The air bubble thing is a lack of space between the juice flow slots and the inner side of the glass. It is just a fraction of a millimeter too small and the air bubbles get trapped. I use 70/30 juice.
I keep the Ammit in rotation because of the great flavor and unique vape. It is somewhere in between the wide open cloud machines like my OBS Engine and the polite vape of my Rose 3 or Kayfun v5 which I enjoy in the evenings.
In my opinion, your problem is due to the design of the "juice well", not only on Ammit but on many other decent tanks. i.e. you ought to have enough cotton to prevent the juice from rushing in through JFC to the juice well then into the chamber.
For MTL vapers, in general they will use a small diameter coil which restricts the amount of cotton used in wicking. I don't believe little amount of cotton can efficiently stop/block juice flow at the "juice well" (and the JFC).
My guess is, you are a MTL player, why don't you try with a big diameter coil, you can still stick to your restrictive air flow, as restrictive as you like, but try big coil with more cotton to cover the juice well.
I have been using Ammit long enough and am very happy with it. Never leak, never gives me any problem.
Btw, I am a fan of big vapor intensive flavor fan and I seldom use coil less than 4mm in diameter.
Glad you have everything sorted on your Ammit. I never use a 4mm coil. I have been using 3.5mm on my Ammit. I own more than 30 tanks many rta some rda and a few mtl. I can wick with the best and stand by my comments on the Ammit. This forum is a wonderful place to express different experiences. I was just commenting on my own experience. Your milage may vary.
I think you will find trying to use the Ammit Dual in single coil mode might not be that great. There is a big juice channel you will have to pack with wick so it doesn't flood and that silicone plug looks to be a quick band-aid solution for single coil use. GeekVape should have included a single coil deck that could be swapped out, but that would pretty much kill all sales of the original Ammit. I am also going to pick up the Ammit Dual but it will be used in dual coil mode only.So if one were to be thinking of getting their first RTA would one suggest the single or the upcoming dual Ammit as a starting point? I have been following the Ammit since its release both the pros and the cons.
I ask the question because I'm thinking that the dual would offer more options for building into the future. IE: going from single to dual and 3ml to 6ml.
Any thoughts from any of you who have been using the Ammit would be greatly appreciated.
Just wanted to chime in for those that may have been having a lackluster flavor experience with this atty. I got the Ammit four days ago and have been struggling to extract any flavor from it. Tried multiple coil styles and wicking methods... 2.4mm and 3mm standard contact/spaced coils, 6-9 wraps. Wicking and vapor performance had been great, just no flavor. Today I tore the atty down, added grubs screws since the stock screws never seemed to stay tight, and built a 7 wrap, 3mm id spaced coil with 26g SS coming in at .53ohms. I elevated the coil so that the side airflow is barely touching the lower part of the coil. Voila! Flavor at last. Previously I had been placing the coils just slightly north of center or about even with the airflow holes.
Edit:
Should be noted that this RTA is being used in TC mode on an Laisimo L1 at 45w and 450ish degrees. Also using organic cotton balls for wicking.
